Blocking feature being abused or was it intended to be this way? FDEV?

Nope, just a refusal to play with people that act like idiots especially when their idea of fun is detrimental to my fun. That's one of the reasons I'm a Soloist.

I'll state it again; I really don't see the difference between everyone decamping to Solo/PG in the end because of the few miscreants or no-one being able to instance with them because of the blocking, the net result is the same.

Omg. So much prejudice here.

There are a couple of threads today I've been temped to slap the Wall of Information into. It wouldn't have looked out of place at all. lol.

I also don't get why some folks are adamant they are going to try and force themselves onto people who don't want to interact with them.
But then again, I have no issue with players asking others players for good trade routes, sightseeing tips or a list of names of people to throw on a block list.

It's just fake sensationalism. Pushed by trolls with their fake sock puppets. Nothing more.

The problem with this is that Open no longer is open with the blocking. I'd also argue that its fairly reasonable to expect to encounter other all players in the main multiplayer mode without hinderance, in an epic multiplayer game, provided they aren't cheating, exploiting or hacking. After all if they are doing neither of the later then its all part of the game.

Nah, let's make the game just for us. ... let them find another game. "Open is ours boys. To the T9s!!"

Blocking has always been in the game though, you know that well enough. True it's now easier to block someone, but the underlying mechanics have never changed. But it's true that if people want to block others who they know have been cheating, then they should be free to do so.

Hi FDEV

The latest go to tactic and advice, which is being seen on multiple sources here, reddit and on streams. Is to jump into a system with PVP players and populate your block list.

While I know this tactic is not 100% successful, it has to be bad for your match making program and as a mechanic, pretty weak.

If people are abusing something that was meant to stop them being harassed, to being used as a safe space filter. When they have access to Mobius or Solo.
It seems like a badly designed and counter productive mechanic.

So what is your view on its use and are there any plans to change its working?

Instancing is already bad enough and the blue tunnelling at the moment is pretty bad.
I cannot see your match making device having to compare everyone's ban list to see who they can and cannot instance with on their daily whim, being a positive thing for the game.

What if one person in a wing has another person in another wing blocked because he lost in a 1v1 and got butthurt over it. Will this top the wings from instancing?

I mean you already have the 15 second combat log and cable pull to keep you safe in open. Why ruin the instancing for everyone one else.

I'd be surprised if the presence of the friends and block lists significantly interfere with performance and/or causes blue tunneling. I could be wrong but I'd prefer to see data vs assuming the block list is ruining performance or match making. Also, why so keen to play with people who may not want to play with you? I see no issues with the system as it stands, other than it makes it hard for griefers to grief those who aren't interested in being griefed. I personally have no desire to force myself into an instance with someone who may prefer that I not be there.

And we know what happens when a few thousand players form private groups until that private group can't support that many players and new private groups get created.

Players will complain that using private groups with players that aren't very close friends is an abuse of the private group mode.

Its rather funny isn't it? :D

So I'd respectfully suggest you are wrong, particularly considering there is solo and pg.

How is Open no longer Open? It's literally just a list of all existing players which can be matched with you. Removing a single person of that list doesn't alter my experience of Open in a way that has impact. Solo and PG aren't too different. PG is basically Solo with the ability to add people. They're in no way comparable to Open.

And yes, that's the experience many bought into. The thing is that this is about my experience and not theirs. Theirs doesn't change when I block them. Mine does. And whether I change my own experience is solely my business.

^ This is btw hypothetical. I've not blocked a single player in the game. Well, I've blocked one, but that was ages ago because he insulted me.

Lets not forget the incoming cp/karma changes too ;)

I'll see if they change my view when they're here. Not a second earlier. :)

It's ok to be prejudiced against actions. No one blocks you because you have a black ship. They block you for what you do with that ship. PvP cannot be the deciding factor on how people can act. It just isn't important enough to limit other players and how they act. It just isn't. No one owes you their time. Your individual right to pew pew, stops right where my right to decline begins. FD gives us any number of ways to leave that behind, one more is no big deal. Grow up, and play along with those that enjoy the way you play. You can ask no more.
