Blocking feature being abused or was it intended to be this way? FDEV?

You don't know that's happening, other than some posts on a forum/reddit of a coupl eo fpeople saying they did it (allegedly), do that mean it's an actual issue?

I've just been out for a walk on my lunch break cheers, and the OP is online and viewing this thread. Whereas starting a practically flame thread and then sitting back to watch the fire is..?

Wow we're all getting rather personal aren't we. I'm merely pointing out that there were a lot more people than those who play in solo complaining about the exploit and it should be obvious why it affects everyone's game.

Lol laying out the groundwork to use mod powers is a good tactic, but nothing i said was personal, i merely asked you a question.

Yes, multiple different player types complained, but i was referring to the solo crowd, the crowd of players that play in solo, players that prefer solo over other modes, players who like to play singleplayer version of ED, i really cannot think of a less offensive way of saying it.

At no point did i say "literally only solo players complained about the engineering exploit",

And the block feature should remove the "Git Gud" crap from chat, without removing the threat of being attacked by them because they are breaking no rules roaming around in a wing attacking people. If people dislike it, well, there are other modes, other systems, you know the drill.

Same old, same old.

Face it, being able to not meet up with the prats is a pretty good idea and this goes a long way to solving the issue. As for your reply, you missed the obvious point and I presume that was deliberate.

So in your eyes, this game is 100% perfect as it is? No single flaws, because as FD implemented it as per their choice, it's infallible?
And that's a strawman.

No Stitch, you told me what should happen. Not your call.

No, there's videos around of people using it like that.

"which is just a crap PvE implementation." is your most humble opinion.

Mobius? Private?
Random?

And why are "some people" so important they get their way with three out of three game modes?
They're not. They don't get OpenPvE, so suck it up.

The block tool should not be used to eliminate risk from the game, and the annoying thing is there is a lot of goal post moving going on in regards to what people think is ok and what isnt.
[...]
Now, when it comes to using the block tool to eliminate risk from the 1 risky mode, the attitude is "it dosent affect other people" i find to be double standards.
There's nothing in there that tells me: "does it make any difference that this player has blocked him instead of going into a private group?".

This. If Mobius was a shared blacklist instead of shared whitelist, would it change anything for PvPers?

Last month I was attacked by another player because of a discussion I had on reddit with someone else from his guild about combat-logging.

I did not provoke him in any way.
I didn't belong to a Power Play faction hostile to him.
I wasn't harassing other players.

He simply said in comms, "Die, combat-logger!" and proceeded to pointlessly scratch my engineered shields.
I told him that if he wanted a duel, I would be happy even to fight to the death - he didn't replied.

So I added him to my block list and proceeded on my merry way - which is the same fate that anyone that attacks me for no in-game reason will incur. Never met him again.
I *love* the block list.

sir, we might have a problem here. if op qualifies as a flame wouldn't it be your duty to close/moderate it instead of jumping right into the flame?

plus, stalking forum members ... meh!

My wording was deliberate and looking at a profile once is hardly what I'd call stalking.

I'm not modding this thread, I'm participating :D

No, but why highlight Solo players, why not say Solo and PG players if all you were doing was pointing out they had no way of coming into direct contact with exploited ships? As I said, those exploited ships affected everyone's game, regardless of what mode they play in. It was a poor thing to use as an argument to justify why a block function shouldn't exist.

i did not want to write something here, but i cant... to many awnsers, that dont WANT to understand...

Most people want to play in Open.
But there are some players, that shoot you out of your cockpit for no reason what so ever.
Other players shoot you to, but they do roleplay.

The first kind has to be blocked, because this is not the PvP that is wanted in ED. For these players, the block is meant!

The RPG-PvP-Player (Pirat/Enforcer/etc) it should not be used. This is MEANINGFUL PvP AS WANTED by FD.

Dush**Gs into the sack. Others OK!

Odd... Once again... "PvP" crowd members are complaining about Players who just aren't there.

A small percentage of players honestly believe that we have an obligation to be their content, and that if we're somehow managing to enjoy the game where they can't shoot us that is in some way a personal insult to them.

I bet they pop a little grin every time they hit that button, regardless if the player had every done anything wrong to them

Would that be the same little grin seal clubbers exhibit when they pop a harmless trader?

They are more than welcome to pay me to be their content providing they have a decent connection. Until there's a signed contract in place though, and they have acceptable kit and a proper connection - they can sit there and git gud.

*rubs eyes* Seriously? Getting their own way?

They're making use of a feature that allows more people to play in Open!

Surely that's ultimately a good thing?

But if Open becomes "choose what happens" then what's the point of there being an Open mode?

Like does no-one remember that piracy etc. wasn't supposed to be optional? Wasn't supposed to require a consent form and H&S form?

It's not about "make open popular so I can have someone to gank0r even though gank0ring can just be circumvented". It's "give me a single game I can enjoy instead of giving other players several different variations of Solo play featuring different levels of hollow squares on their radar as graphical artifacts".

As always though, this has - you and Ziggy aside - descended into "I saw PvP mentioned therefore....drag this into a convo about murder and witch hunt the big bad gankors!". You know, if y'all were only this good at hunting gankers in game maybe FD wouldn't have needed CP ;)

ED is not a competetive arena shooter. it is a mixed mode game, where you play in my instance at my pleasure.

simple as that really.

There are some names on here (as in this forum not this thread) which i would absolutely but on a block list as soon as i could. this is no more or no less legitimate than harvesting names for a KOS list that i know a lot of PvPers have.

A robust block list feature i would suspect is more likely to get more people playing in open than not having such list... the only ones who lose out are those playing serial killer.. well, last i looked that wasnt on the elite rankings.....

i will dig out my matchbook violin for them :D

(mind you most of them seem to have gone quiet of late. presumably sulking after FD called them on their "you would not dare punish me You can never prove i have cheated " posts :D )

@stiTch - its unfortunate that some PvP pirates may pay a price - now me personally i have no interest on blocking pirates.... but imo too many PvPers bought it on themselves for not making a stand against those making open intolerable for many. the shoe on the other foot has landed and this is what happens :(

back in the dev diary days the block feature was quite simple. block who ever you do not want to be instanced with.,.,, on launch it was not really working in that way. I thought at the time it was because FD had changed their minds... but by the sounds of it it just was not working properly and perhaps it is now.

that's a way to put it, but there's another perspective: do you want an environment where your own ability is the sole rule for survival? you obviously don't, and that's fair, and it explains the attitude in these threads which is much on par with your avatar (which i'm loving btw): you guys got your way. it's just the way it is, and i'm fine with that.

other people however still have to come to that realization, however their expectations are still legitimate and it is uncalled for that you describe them as unfair to you. ed is just not that type of game, so the *real* crux of this issue is very simple: false advertising.

i would recommend op to ask for a refund, he has a strong case.

And PvPers say only a small percent are the naughty ones, but then they forget it is exactly because of that small percent we avoid them.

But if Open becomes "choose what happens" then what's the point of there being an Open mode?

You're extrapolating from a small set of players to the entire player base. The number of people who would potentially simply block everyone that provides them any grief is a preset limit because it's a function of personality (ie they were born with it). So the number of people who actually do it is asymptotic to that limit and it's a small fraction.

In short the question is hyperbolic and rhetorical, it won't happen so it's not really an interesting question.

If you want to argue that there should only be open (and your last point seems to imply that) then that's a valid argument (and one I wouldn't wholly disagree with) but that's not the debate at hand.

It isn't "choose what happens" though, it's "choose who I don't want to play with" which are two very different things.

I play in Open. I've been pirated twice by players, and it was an absolute hoot both times. I've never blocked a Pirate. I probably never shall.

However, both of the players I blocked were of the "no comms, flying a monstrously overpowered PvP deathtrap, killed me in seconds" ilk that I have little interest in. There's no challenge in it for them, and there's no entertainment in it for me. By blocking them I've saved us both a bit of time in future.
