Blocking feature being abused or was it intended to be this way? FDEV?

I used to be a pirate... combat logging changed that. if it was fixed, I pirate I would be.

Oddly enough there is only 1 player I know that does this... very bad at PVP too.

New players don't spawn with players blocked...

Just keep using the exploits and cheats you been boasting about. Eventually the block thing you worry about will sort itself out.

Never blocked anyone in game or on the forums. you see I don't mind opinions that differ to mine, even if I strongly disagree with those opinions.

Has nothing to do with opinions tbh, it's more about intolerance from the other side and general bad behaviour - lack of social skill etc..

Y'know mate it'd be quite refreshing if you stopped treating the game like it's CQC Galaxy Arena - just sayin'

CQC Galaxy - thats some decent game description :D

Then you should be welcoming the proposed future Karma system, where 'combat logging' will have severe consequences for those doing such.

They don't. But they can still use the block feature after the first time. This is the rather large and inconvenient flaw in your plan.

No, but some learn fast and others might educate them about the block feature.

Think of it. You get a free gank and the other player can decide if that type of gameplay is enjoyable. Both of you can then decide if they want to block the other player.

If a player encounter somebody who plays in a way that player likes that player can block the other players. Both players stop seeing each other and both can go on playing the game they like.

Sounds like a good method to make everybody happy.

(If the blocking feature gets fixed, as it has some problems from what I've read in this thread)

1. Yea the karma system when we see it will be neat if implemented well, spoiler: I won't. also combat logging is not something that should be punished in-game, its cheating and requires support to deal with it.
2. Not everyone knows about the block feature, oddly enough most people assume it means blocking comms.

I never claimed to use them... only that I have them. still some of em are really good! hell I got better drives than I had before the purge.

So you complain that someone can block you, yet you make out as if you are using cheats .. isn't that a bit hypocritical?

I support blocking people, for communication reasons. I do not support the idea that you should be able to play an MMO "IN PVP MODE" and still prevent PVPers from attacking you, whether you like them or not. It's like saying, I want to do war games with live ammunition, but that guy, that guy and that guy, they aren't allowed to shoot me, ok? Cos I don't like them and they are better at shooting people than me. I don't even want to shoot people. So why the holy hell do you play in OPEN? ED is a PVP game, the devs have told you this from the outset, it's the wild wild west out there. If you want to play with friends, play with them in group mode.

While I completely understand the desire not to be ganked, and therefore it seems logical that blocking a player should also reduce the likelihood to almost zero of that player doing that again (by putting them at the bottom of your matchmaking list). However it doesn't stop another player ganking you on another day, so it's not really very effective at stopping you getting ganked, which seems to be the main issue here.

If you want to play without fear of being killed by someone better (and that's what we're talking about here, players arbitrarily blocking other players they have never met, because they know they wouldn't stand a chance in combat against them), play in SOLO.

For all you naysayers to this, I have a scenario for you, please tell me if you think this is the way it's supposed to work....

A player decides he might like to try some PVP, so he goes to youtube and looks at some video tutorials, then he looks at some videos by ED PVP vloggers, such as Archon for example. He then says to himself...holy moly, this guy is good, let me make a note to block him as soon as I'm in game so I never have to face him in combat!

Working as intended? IF you really tihnk so, then what possible motive does anyone have for getting better at defending themselves. They can just combat log then block the player. I find it hard to understand how any logical mind can say that this is how it should be.

1. If Frontier spend sufficient time and effort getting a Karma system done right, well we'll all be happy I suppose. However, their history of 'not assigning enough dev resources for a sufficient amount of time to develop a game feature' leads me to the same sceptical conclusion as yourself.

2. I'm sure a campaign of letting noobs know about the block feature in the forums and on Reddit from time to time would fix that ;)

There is a workable solution for CLogging here.

Get behind it, promote it, or give feedback & suggest changes if you think it can be improved. From what I've seen you have the potential to be a colourful, engaging & entertaining character in-game, provided you can find your place within the community.

Solutions to your problems are already available, they just have not yet been implemented. And if/when they are put in place they won't be perfect straight away.

Rather than arguing against a feature you don't like, argue in favour of a solution that will work for you, and won't make the game worse for people that play a different way.

Don't you have to meet the player in game to block them?

It makes me sad watching spicy twitch streamers interdicting harmless T6s CMDRs at CGs and then murdering them.

It makes me even sadder when the harmless T6 CMDR combat logs and the spicy streamer sends that cheater support ticket claiming he is helping the game by reporting cheaters.

Spicy streamers do not add to this community, they only take.

Dont worry about the spicy streamers instancing... its their problem not yours!

Lets make Open great again!

Yes

EDIT: Actually, not quite. You need to have had somer form of contact with them, as in the same instance or comms. You could send them a friend request, and then block them if they respond.
