Youtube videos of virtual spaceships orbiting each other and firing virtual bullets/plasma/railguns - if you've seen one you've seen 'em all.

Twitch streams of various rabid player-killers - I've watched many hours of that in a bid to understand the motivation behind it - ("If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.") - and frankly all I observe is a bunch of betas imagining they're alphas for blowing up non-PvPer's ships. The hearty laughs and the over-excited snickers that sound like they're coming from an 8 year old... I've seen a ton of stuff which has led me to the conclusion that all of the rabid player-killers aren't worth the effort it's taking to write this response to you.

How's that for maximum disrespect.

Piracy was dead at birth in this game, for reasons I've stated earlier in this thread that I don't think you've read at all until chucking your 2p's worth recently.

I have people both in the game and in the forum whom I strenuously disagree with (to put it mildly) and I'm yet to block a single person on either venue. You put yourself on the forum, you should be prepared to defend your statements; you put yourself in Open, you should be prepared to defend your ship. Artificially blocking people is just weak sauce.

With respect, I think you need to accept that Elite is never going to be EVE with cockpits. Just pointing out your signature here.

Most people who play Elite, don't play EVE because they don't want to play EVE.

Theres a huge difference between playing in a good atmosphere and playing with morons who give ye several graphic descriptions of what yer mother is like between the sheets. The blocking function deals with the latter...its not rocket science m8 ^

Last week I've scanned 100 obelisks during 8 hours and made 201 million credits, in Open, without one single interruption. Now, that's just not fair (I know and agree, that's just my PoV). It would be more entertaining and rewarding for me if it'd been risky. Now, if that risk involved other CMDR, even better!! Content for me, content for them. And more rewarding once I've managed to finish it.

That's the kind of thing. Make missions with 30 million rewards or w/e, with the risk of being jumped by "bad guys" in Open. If you don't like, I'm pretty sure plenty of people farming in Open would.

I cannot be held responsible for your entertainment. What you want, in the game, has no merit. Why should I be concerned with what your space fantasies are? None of that seal clubbing, cheating, combat logging is my responsibility. Your post seems to say otherwise. You can only expect to play along side those that look for the same thing in the game.

I don't use, nor like the 'maybe this game isn't for you' thing. I believe it can be everybody's thing. But, I do recognize that you and I saw two distinct games when we viewed the marketing. I never assumed that there would be unwilling targets made available to me. With the 3 modes, I never expected anyone would have to be part of what they aren't interested in. Open is not an immutable social contract. It's one tiny aspect of the game, that you can ignore completely, and still enjoy all of the content FD delivers. Taken from that point of view, if I can block hundreds of players wholesale, why shouldn't I be allowed to do it on an individual basis?

Exactly!

The few PvPers that I decided to blow out of the sky were spouting all kinds of insulting expletives before I ended them. And even though I won those fights, I blocked and reported the lot for griefing. Or in my case... A lame attempt at griefing.

No No No. Open is not your PVP play thing where everyone is there for you to kill and if they dont like it then they should go solo.

Open is for all Elite Dangerous CMDRs not just the spicy few.

Your mentality is why I am fine with CMDRs blocking the lot of you... you dont add to Open... you dont encourage players into Open.... You are not good for Open.

Yes cause clearly those flying for combat are uneducated idiots who don't know classic battle literature.

Maybe also brush up on your Boelcke rather than Musashi, the former is slightly more relevant unless space legs is a thing.

I appreciate and am grateful for your respect, dear sir Cobra III lover, but I must add that in no way I want ED turned into EvE. There are, though, a few nice aspects from that game.

Anyway, wanting Open to be Open, what's the problem? You're roaming in an Explorer Annie, some guy appears and wants to explode you.
1. Why is that condemnable? He's in Open just like you. Why "hurr durr report wrong way of play"?
2. I'm sure If you're in an Annie, you understand a bit about the game. Submit, align, boost boost boost, high wake?
3. Why didn't you check your Contacts tab in the first place, when the "1 new contact" appeared on screen?
4. Why can these players Block you from Open and put you in a Condemnables list so that a huge chunk of Open dwellers can't be found by him anymore?

I do appreciate your thoughts too. Many people came to ED in order to not find EvE scrubs here. But then, does everybody have to love and peace through the game this way? Penalizing the bad guys not with in-game mechanics, but with metagame?
