Blocking players in Open play sucks...

For a couple of weeks now I've been warning any players who come to my home systems (two of them) to leave or be attacked. This is my turf and you're not welcome here! This has lead to all sorts of fun and shenanigans with other CMDR's. it certainly adds spice to the game.

Last night I was playing with my friend and I issued my usual warning to a cheeky Type 6 that was in my system. He jumped away and I thought that was that. To my surprise when my friend and I jumped to our other system the cheeky Type 6 was there but I couldn't see him, only my friend could.

Is that how blocking players works? Does it remove them visually from your game so they can carry on and ignore my "keep out" system warnings? If so that totally sucks and should be removed from Open play... what a game breaker.

Sounds more like the buggy instancing mechanic. Our squad are in the same private group and that's no guarantee that we see each other.

though in this case i think its the block mechanic, yes.

its DBOBEs vision that pvp should only be consensual/avoidable by players. There are many arguments for and against it.

Myself i think: if someone plays open, he should not be able to avoid pvp. there is solo play for that IMHO.

I thought blocking players just blocked comms.
Instancing could hide them but if that was the case you should both have not seen them. Ticket it.

He could still go solo or private if he didn't want to deal with you though.....

SOunds like a bug - ticket it.
Blocking is supposed to prevent the two players being put in the same instance together. Not have one person see him and the other not. Could you see your friend?

out of curiosity what two systems have you claimed? Just so I can come say hi....and totally not drop off a full load of cargo in my T6 :p

please tell me "your" home system so i can come and see if there is bite behind the bark......

My understanding is that blocking a player will definitely prevent comms and will also try to avoid putting that player in your instances, but that part is not guaranteed.

MP is messed up, i cannot see my friend, no matter what, even if we have the same server ip. Additionally i found out that currently there is no collision between real player, you simply clip throw their ships!? Oo

are you and your friend on the same network/router/ip?

Do you seriously believe you can keep people out of your system? Do you even know how the instancing works here? I bet you there are a LOT of other people flying in and out of 'your' system (what a joke) that you never even see even though they are sitting right next to you on 'your' landing pad. You keep trying to lock people out of content, while i giggle at your vein efforts.

Hope there are no authorities in that system. Otherwise they might dispute your ownership of it. :D

Sounds more like buggy matchmaking though, unless you remember you had blocked after they jumped away (although i don't understand why you might have done that - blocking means you don't want to interact with people so the game keeps you apart).

Still, this gives me another reason to not play open. Seriously, players trying to "claim" systems... when systems are owned by massive factions. Would ruin the immersion for me.

Now, if for example, you were Federation, in a Fed system, and i jumped in and you hailed me and asked me for my allegiance, then i would have proudly told you im an Empire boy and then you could have told me that Empire scum are not welcome here. And if i said Federation, then i would expect to be allowed to pass.

I think you need to work on your RP skills a little.

Just my opinion of course.

That is not what I understood by the OP. It seems like playing the game to me. Interaction. That is the point of open play and I am looking forward to it when I get a good internet connection.

I think he meant to say it blocks comms only (voice and text) and not instancing with the blocked player.
.
What is reported by the OP is therefore a bug and should be ticketed.

ok interesting, then i stand corrected. i always thought blocking also means not being put into same instance too.
