I was kinda wondering this myself. My first thought was, "Does this mean nobody is playing ED anymore, and so they're using this to get us back online?" If that's the case, release 3.2 because that's what I'm waiting for.

Call me a cynic, but has the number of regular players dropped - hence this carrot to encourage some folks back?

I say that as a player who really hasn't bothered with ED for nearly 6 months, because it was getting repetitive.

Elite Dangerous is a game about creating your own narrative for your CMDR. It doesn't hold your hands. If lore is missing for you and your charater's narrative, create it yourself.

Also, who is to say that a Galnet News post won't appear on the 24th?

I guess it might be preferable to some (me included tbf) if it appeared in-game first. There's precious little storyline as it is.

Edit: to be clear, I've no issue with the general premise.

it's a trap!

Yeeeeeeeeeeees (Morpheus voice) , war is coming, get money for re-buys coz its gonna kick off big time peeps and we are all gonna die lots while we are chased out of the bubble.

How will it work i hear you think, well i suspect mega ships will be jumping or pushed back to staging points between Sol and Colonia as we are chased, so any deaths will have you spawn at one of the retreated mega ships, re-buy and launch and defend mega ship, all will fail though, we WILL be pushed.

for those that dont get involved, i suspect while you "sleep" they will move you to Colonia as some sort of refugee where your ship will have been taken in anticipation of your awakening.
