Bounty Hunting CG Kill Stealing by Players - What is your policy?

I like Open CGs, always have some interesting interactions.

While Bounty Hunting in Open during a CG, I will often run into another commander that will dive in at the last minute and steal the Bounty from a kill in progress.

You can send a wing invite, but they will often refuse and continue to snipe your loot.

My personal policy is to ram them to death (avoiding a criminal bounty and notoriety) , and most of the time they run off after taking hull damage.

How do you handle this situation?

Shoot them!

This happened to me just the other day. That got the guy's attention, and he's like "Dude!?!" I replied, "I offer you a wing and instead you come in and steal my kill? Bad form!" He apologized and said he was new, and I encouraged him to join my wing, and then we spent the rest of the time as allies.

Of course I then had an annoying bounty on my ship I had to get rid of... Still, it was worth it!

BTW, if that doesn't work, block 'em!

Are you sure they are refusing the invite or just like me too busy flying and shooting stuff to bother with the coms menu?

My policy based in part on the poor behaviour of my machine in the presence of more than a couple of other players is to play in a PG which has only a few friends signed up that way if any kill stealing happens it is usually mutual but to be honest it is quite rare for us to be within 100s of Ly of each other.

Yeah - I would agree in PG it's a different dynamic. You are all friendly after all - but in Open?

Kill em all....

With a spoon, if you have one handy.

What engineering mod is that? I'm totally going to grind that.

Don’t grind the spoon if it is too sharp it won’t hurt enough.

As I said I have performance problems with too many other players around so don’t do open, but there is nothing to stop you following them around and stealing their kills.

That right there!..... I'm constantly missing messages, sometimes not seeing them till 20 minutes later when the adrenaline wears off. There should be spoken messages by the ship when you are being Hailed. Something similar that get's your attention when there's a 'hull breech attack' Or maybe a pop-up in the 'wing' icon area.

"CMDR, you are being Hailed by nearby ship"

I'm of the opinion that if you're in Open and participating in a community goal, it's your responsibility to look for (and accept) wing invites in any shared RES, even if you continue to fly solo (as in, pick your own targets) afterwards. It's just good form, as it removes even the potential of kill stealing.

I never understood why people chose to play in Open at a community event and then proceed to be totally antisocial.

I do steal kills from others at such CG because I can, always refusing wing invites because I dont really like wing up with random PVE strangers, and while if they try doing same to me return, I tell them to stay away from my preys or I kill them regardless of notoriety. Sometimes ppl dont listen, so they either end up with rebui or waking out with heavy dmg with thier tail between legs.

I mean, if they send a wing request and you ignore the bright blue HUD icon that pops up AND the noise that goes with it, it's on you.

If you're not paying attention to your surroundings and something happens to your vehicle as a result, well....
I wasn't talking about wing request, I got crew and wings are not missed, I said 'messages'.. Thats why I mentioned an icon or something pop up in the 'wing area' to let you know you have a new message from a player... someone who is messaging you directly but isn't on your team. Thats why I mentioned being Hailed, which is what is usually done by an enemy or stranger.
As a VR player, I'm constantly looking around... it's a bad habit of flying by feel and not looking at my scope and instruments. Not an excuse, just is what it is. So having something like that would grab my attention more than the regular 'chirp' that every player and NPC get on every system message.

Yep, I have this problem too. Sometimes people will DM me rather than use wing chat, but I have wing chat in a separate tab so I miss these DMs. And then I sometimes switch to system chat just for the fun of it, and then all the other chats are missed. The whole system could use a bit of a rework; at the very least, DMs should do more to get my attention.

And then there's the inability to turn off inane NPC chatter, which was a feature Frontier removed for some stupid reason.
