Ships Brag About Your Ship Here (Screenshots Welcomed)

So I haven't played Elite in a while (years) but I'm going to get back into it once I get moved into my new place. I have ambitions, ambitions of getting my own fleet carrier, ambitions of conquering the bubble and establishing the Holy Imperium, but I need ships specifically I want to hear about all the ships out there and what has drawn you to fly them. I personally really like the idea of flying an Alliance Crusader, I like the look of the ship and have heard it actually performs rather well once fully engineered. People give it a lot of flack because it handles just slightly, SLIGHTLY worse than the Chieftan or Challenger and also doesn't have as much firepower. I also like the Imperial Courier and the Federal Corvette and I'm pretty sure I'll have these three on my fleet carrier once I get that far but I am open to ideas.

I love to fly my Emmy. It's a Diamondback Explorer built for collecting materials, doing exobiology and a little bit of exploration. Cheap, small, nimble enough. With its small landing footprint, it can land in hard-to-reach areas. The Emmy is also armed, but not for combat: you can activate Guardian beacons or carpet bomb Brain Trees (sorry, not very considerate towards extraterrestrial life). While it's well suited for general exploration, it doesn't have any maintenance modules like AFMUs or repair limpets, so I wouldn't take her on a trip to Beagle Point.

Oh, and it's named after ingenious mathematician Emmy Noether.

You can find the specifics on ED Ship Builds.

Nice. We don't really have a thread with CMDRs presenting their ships. Maybe we should have one. I'll play along - warning: Long post, lots of images (click to enlarge) ;).

This post inspired me to go through my ships and make a list which ones are actually in a flyable, dare I say: Finished state. I own 33 ships in various states, some of them are just empty hulls, and I own two cutters, one clipper, two T-9 and one T-10 that I use as module storage (yes, I use cutters as module storage. Sue me.) Some of them have been flyable at one point, but have since been cannibalized. In making my list I found out I own eleven ships that I can jump into and fly away without spending time in outfitting to check their state. So, here are my ships, more or less in order of popularity. All eleven of them :).

Grill-O-Mat Snack Bar - Viper Mk IV

This is the one I fly the most at the moment, probably. It is my Odyssey mission runner and occasional bounty hunting dogfighter. It has 1,600 raw armor and 600 raw shields, jumps 31 ly, brings a Scorpion and is currently equipped with two medium PAs and two small rail guns. I love this one; the Viper Mk IV practically screams mercenary. It is pretty tanky, agile and fast enough, and its throaty engine sound is glorious. It's probably the ship I enjoy the most right now.

Starbuck - Krait Mk II

The ship I fly second most these days is this Krait. It used to be a core miner, but I repurposed it earlier this year, and now it is my primary AX fighter. It is pretty much a standard shieldless repair build with around 3k armor. The center hardpoint on top is always a large long range TV beam, the rest of the weapon loadout changes depending on where I fight or what mood I am in. Currently it is equipped with two of the new Azimuth AXMCs and two Gauss cannons. I also have two Azimuth MCs for the medium hardpoints in case I want to go all MC for Scout or Glaive hunting, or just because dakka. I also have a set of four salvation plasmas for it, but I never really use them. It jumps a hair over 27 ly and has a range of 189 ly with a full tank, which makes it travel pretty well.

Intentionally Blank - Krait Mk II

This is my second (well, technically first - it came before Starbuck) Krait Mk II, and it is generally the ship I use for combat - bounty hunting, massacre missions, CZs. It is a bi-weave build with 1,100 raw shields and 3,000 armor. It is designed to be able to travel, so I sacrificed some armor for a Guardian FSD Booster and a fuel scoop. It jumps 31.5 ly and has a range of 216 ly without scooping. The weapon loadout on this ship changes very often depending on my mood or what I plan to do. At the moment I try to git reasonably gud with fixed weapons, so it brings three large PAs and two medium rail guns. It is also a lot of fun in a full dakka loadout. I also have a set of fixed lasers for it with which it is hilarious. Works most efficiently with two medium beams and three large MCs (all gimballed), but that's also the least fun.

Don't Call Me Shirley - Mamba

This is my PvE version of a frag mamba. All the boosters except one KWS, 2,400 shields and 2,400 armor. Pitiful jump range, annoyingly small fuel tank: Jump range is not quite 17 ly, and it can't even do three jumps without refueling. But it is so fun to fly, and going to a HazRes with it is hilarious for about ten minutes - then I'm out of ammo and a few million richer. Also, I love the cockpit in VR, especially the bog roll in the right hand glove compartment. This one is my "fun boat".

EV Travis Bickle - Dolphin

This is my combined bubble taxi (hence the name) and favorite explorer. It is by far my fastest ship (in the Kessel run sense). Jump range is almost 52 ly, range is 300 ly without refueling, and of course the Dolphin is famous for being able to scoop and charge the FSD at the same time, even with a G5 OC power plant. I use this both for bubble and short range exploration (like traveling to guardian space) and long range. If I go long range, I swap out some parts to be able to repair. I recently did the Project Dynasty tour with it, going from the bubble to Hawkins Gap, Conflux, Formidine Rift, The Zurara and back to the bubble. It was a fun 51k trip, and the ship's paint shows its mileage :;-).

Dinsdale - Beluga Liner

This is my "bring everything you can" explorer. I love the Beluga. The view out of the canopy is glorious in VR, and it handles almost like a medium ship. Power and heat are a bit of a problem, so I need to juggle a bit with what modules I want active at which time. Jump range is almost 55 ly, and I equipped a 64t tank that gives it a range of 288 ly. With the stuff I do lately, I don't take this one out often enough. Also, I only launch and land it from my carrier. I don't get it anywhere near a mailslot :).

Share And Enjoy - Krait Phantom

This is my core miner. It has a cargo capacity of 96 t plus 6 t in the refinery, which is all I have the patience for recently - I sacrificed 32 t for a FSD booster instead. I don't need the money, so I go core mining to relax. With all the mining gear it is somewhat paperish, so I don't take it out in open. It jumps 46 ly and has a range of 317 ly, which is usually sufficient to go mine and sell. I didn't skimp on any core modules, so it is plenty fast and, of course, permaboosts with two pips in engines, which is kind of important for me when I travel between cores.

Luigi Vercotti - Python

This is my AX passenger EVAC ship with capacity for 112 passengers. It is tanky enough to never take any damage before jumping out from any Scout or Interceptor, and I have successfully taken down Glaives with it. At the moment it is a bit slow, because I stole the thrusters; with the current thrusters it only boosts to 440, with the usual 6A DD/DD thrusters it does 473. Jump range is 24 ly, and it can do six jumps, so it usually can reach Tarach Tor without refueling :).

Brave Sir Robin - Imperial Courier

This is a typical iCourier speedboat fun build. Make it less tanky and it gets faster but explodes if you sneeze. In the current config, it does 718, when I drop the boosters and HRPs it does 851. It's a real thrill in VR. Nothing much else to say other than: I don't really do anything in it. I take it out for a spin, cruise around a bit, almost destroy it a few times, and park it again. It's a funboat.

This is the newest ship I built; in fact I built it just this friday mostly from spare parts. I built it for one-on-one training in the Pleiades to git gud with the flak and with Gauss Cannons. I am okayish with Gauss Cannons on my Krait, but the agility and twitchiness of the Chief make this a whole different affair. The hull used to be pretty much my very first combat build back when, but it's been rotting in my hangar for almost three years.

So there you have it. Those are my "active" ships. I hope I got all the EDSY links correct :).
I'm sure there's been threads for Ship bragging before, they're probably just buried now. I see you're a commander of varied tastes, The Krait seems to be your favorite as you have Three Kraits in total. I was thinking of going pure Falcon Delacy for my fleet once I get a fleet carrier, using Viper Mk III's and Krait Mk II's and the Anaconda. I do love the Krait, it is probably the most perfect ship (from what I've read up on it) to grace Elite Dangerous.;l

Starbuck wouldn't be a Battlestar Galactica reference would it? I've got to say that was a very interesting build, I never did get into mining but with deep space exploration in a fleet carrier I'm definitely going to want a set up to be self sufficient in Tritium, (by using either an Engineered Corvette with Guardian FSD Boosters or an Anaconda, I'm still hotly debating which one of them I want in my head)

I love to fly my Emmy. It's a Diamondback Explorer built for collecting materials, doing exobiology and a little bit of exploration. Cheap, small, nimble enough. With its small landing footprint, it can land in hard-to-reach areas. Ah the Diamondback! Truly a great exploration AND combat vessel great for dealing with any goids deep in the black or gankers in the bubble. I remembered when I took my Diamondback Explorer into the dark reaches of the expanse only to have to have a fuel rat come repair my ship because I took it out shieldless, oh how naive of an explorer I was in the days of my youth. I don't remember if I still have my Diamondback, I'd like to say I do I called her 'The Angel's Trumpet'(because I like naming my ship after flowers and holy things as well of course as the ship scanning systems which you do manually that sounds a 'horn'. I don't think I would have sold my little DBX makes me really want to go with a DBX, Krait MK II, and Anaconda set up for a deep exploration fleet carrier vessel. really appreciated seeing another commander venerate such a fine vessel.

The Krait seems to be your favorite as you have Three Kraits in total.
I wouldn't call it favorite, it's more that the practicality, and that they suit my flying style. My favorite (in the "emotional" sense) is definitely the Viper at the moment.

Starbuck wouldn't be a Battlestar Galactica reference would it? I've got to say that was a very interesting build,
Of course it is ;). When I built it I was trying to think of a good name for a ship where you fight aliens who want to destroy you with. I used to watch the movie cuts of Battlestar Galactica on saturday afternoons when I was a kid back in the early 80s. The build is pretty much in line with the AXI meta except the utilities. With the Sirius heat sink and how cheap heat sink synth is I decided to bring the toys in favor of a million heat sinks :).

I never did get into mining but with deep space exploration in a fleet carrier I'm definitely going to want a set up to be self sufficient in Tritium, (by using either an Engineered Corvette with Guardian FSD Boosters or an Anaconda, I'm still hotly debating which one of them I want in my head)
I hate laser mining and I am indifferent to subsurface mining, but I love core mining. I made all the credits for my carrier mining void opals and low temp diamonds. I could to that for hours, I find it a very satisfying activity. I used to go core mining first in an AspX, and later in a Python, because it can hold 192 t of cargo. But as I don't need the credits anymore I switched to a Phantom for the extended view out of the canopy. Not as good as the AspX, but the damn WWII bomber sound of the AspX drives me crazy. I never mined Tritium, I bought it all. I heard mining it can be somewhat tedious, but I never did it. When I need Tritium I usually park my carrier somewhere in the vincinity of a station with a decent price, put out a buy order at 200%, refresh my Inara data and wait.

Well I accumulated the hulls and modules over time. The oldest ones in that list are probably the two Krait Mk II. I've been playing for four years and built my fleet slowly over time. Many of the engineered modules are re-used or cannibalized from other builds or experiments.

I wouldn't call it favorite, it's more that the practicality, and that they suit my flying style. My favorite (in the "emotional" sense) is definitely the Viper at the moment.

The Viper is also a lovely little ship, both the MK IV and the MK III, I have a love with its cheap price yet excellent performance for such a small ship, saw a skilled pilot go toe to toe with a Corvette and win in a jousting match that was a friendly bout of pvp. A Viper MK III mind you but still a Viper, speaking of the Viper Mk III I think is itself another Battlestar Galactica reference. I didn't watch the older version but I did binge watch the newer version a few years ago. Absolutely fell in love with the series, even when it got a little weird with the Cylons.

Never touched the AspX as I was more of a DBX pure combat explorer kind of guy, I didn't make a whole lot of money exploring the galaxy but damn did I sure have fun. I never knew there were so many facets to mining, (took a look at internals on coriolis and found out they even have mining limpets! For collecting material I assume?) I intend to get a Corvette or an Anaconda and turn it into a dedicated mining vessel for my fleet carrier when I get it, when I left the game I had just bought an Anaconda. Engineers had just came out and I was disheartened because it was such a new system that i didn't understand (no one really understood back in those days when it just came out) If there's good money to be had in mining Cores I might have to do that, one of my favorite games after all is Dead Space where you play onboard a space mining vessel mining literal cores from planets so the idea can certainly grow on me, I just wouldn't know what ship I'd use before my fleet carrier.

Grill-O-Mat Snack Bar - Viper Mk IV

This is the one I fly the most at the moment, probably. It is my Odyssey mission runner and occasional bounty hunting dogfighter.

I see you're a man of culture too.
This was like... the third ship I bought (after the adder which I didn't keep, and the cobra which I did) and my first dedicated combat ship. Not long after I switched to using a courier for that role since the courier shieldtanks way better and I never really found an ideal use-case for it - I considered refitting it when I was making a dedicated tip-off boat (needing something that can jump reasonably well, land to deploy an SRV, is small enough to get close to the beacon if the target happens to be a settlement, and tanky enough to survive getting away) but when I was theorycrafting my builds it just lost out to the dolphin in all the metrics I actually needed out of it.

Then odyssey dropped.
And scavs have guns that make short work of shields but are terrible at punching through hull and don't do any notable module damage.
And suddenly a decently fast ship that can land anywhere you need to, disembarks at the front so you don't get turned around, has a very generous FSD and fuel load for its mass, and is tanky enough to take anything the surface will throw at it is a really good combination of traits to have in a ship.

All right, so far we've only seen very hip ships. Now for the uncool kid of the mundane workday.

LS Bat-Zabbai (T-9).jpg

This is my cargo ship LS Bat-Zabbai. (Coriolis/EDSY)

A sturdy space cow. Moves a lot of cargo in one go: 752 t or even 756 t if you accept a shorter jump range and exchange the small FSD Booster for another cargo rack. Or, if you want to doze of during boring cargo runs, for a Supercruise Assist. Whatever floats your T-9. Turns like a sloth, flies like a brick (despite engineered dirty/drag drives), but hey, it doesn't need a Navy rank. Plus, the view out of the humongous canopy is glorious.

With 750 t of cargo, you are able to earn Powerplay rating 3 (750 merits) in one go to obtain the power-specific modules. It's not totally made out of paper either, so you could probably escape human pirates in Open. The Point Defence Turret at the bottom takes care of hatch breaker limpets.

The ship is named after Palmyrene queen Zenobia a.k.a. Bat-Zabbai. Because it sounds cool and worthy of a ship that large.

How'd you get the Jack-o-Lantern pumpkin for a decal? Does it have a Name? All ships need a name!

I am much the fan of the Imperial Courier as a combat vessel, full prismatic shields, three imperial hammers, over 2,300 MJ shields possible and still can operate in some capacity I would imagine for settlement raiding. Those three hammers would destroy any ground turrets. I do like the Viper, but I don't think I would be willing to trade it for the Courier. Do you have a picture of your Courier by chance? :T

Ah the T9 legend has it that the T9 was born in the center of a dying star, gracing the galaxy in the apex of the resulting explosion and drifting gracefully into the mail slot of a Lakon spacestation before docking from her first maiden voyage from the glorious rise of her birth to her new followers of her divine majesty at Lakon.

That's a very interesting name for a ship, not to many people know their history. Its a shame ISIS destroyed much of Palmyra. I think you might enjoy watching the life of a short lived Type-9 named 'A Financial Mistake' I was just watching that on youtube and thought of your post.

Here's a nice shot of my T6. It's not my favorite ship or anything. But it's yellow.

If you wanted a yellow explorer why didn't you go with a Diamondback Explorer? :O Is it a T6 pretending to be a DBX? Does it have a name? What do you use it for? You should be proud of all your ships, even tedious boring ships need love too!

Thanks. I deliberately searched for names of "hidden figures" of history, so to speak, that would also sound nice and appropriate for the specific ship. So I do science in the Annie (Easley) and the Emmy (Noether), I expand my trading empire in the Batty (Bat Zabbai), I ferry passengers in the Molly (Kool), and I fight in the Avantibai.

Holy space cow! Thanks for this.

No, I have a DBX. This isn't a DBX. It's a T6. And it's yellow.

My DBX is currently some sort of odd red color. I use my ships for flying here and there, mostly.

I rarely just sit in them, unless I'm distracted by the dogs.

I don't feel proud. I'm too old for that.

The pumpkin decals tend to appear around halloween, funnily enough! I rock 'em at all times because spooky season is the best holiday.

As for the name, it's called the Mantis Shrimp. 'cause it's small and punchy.

Don't get me wrong though, the Hoverfly is still a fun little beast. The cockpit feels like sitting in a kayak and it's stupid-fast for something that can be as tanky as it is.

Its nice to see someone take so much care into naming their ships. Me? I like flowers and birds so when I get to name my ships once I start playing again that's what they're going to be named for. Its also because its an idea I have for a book I want to write called 'The Birds Of Paradise'

There's not much I can do since I don't currently play the game but I'm glad you enjoyed the video. :)

Here's my Clipper. It's not yellow, but the portal in the Titan is. It would match my T6, almost. But the T6 wouldn't make it to the Titan. That's why this is my Clipper.

Have a little more Faith in your T6 I'm sure it could take down the Titan no problem! ;) Its great to see commanders fighting against the thargoid threat. Darn thieving aliens.

Very nice thread! I'll be filling this every now and then :) For starters...

Silence of Lambs (build)

A specialised Diamonback Explorer, meant for looting and stealing cargo from megaships and orbital installations in silent running, often amongst a pirate attack.

My heart does go out to the DBX truly it is every person's desire who comes to Elite Dangerous for the sake of exploring the entire galaxy to own this ship, (a dream many of us have to explore the galaxy), although its also great for silent running and doing stealth things. Wonderful build! Its nice to see the DBX used for something aside exploration! Gives it more character! <3 And by all means feel free to post here as much as you like, as I can't play the game right now this is how i'm filling the hole in my life.

Mantis Shrimp, great name for a deadly little ship. I enjoy the designs of a lot of ships on Elite so its always difficult for me to pick my main ship, let alone a 'fleet' for a fleet carrier. The Imperial Courier is what I have in mind, but I don't know if its small fuel tank can survive a protracted battle with the Thargoids using plasma slugs on the Imperial Hammer and Premium ammunition to get the extra boost in damage. I like the Imperial Hammer, and Prismatic shields, the empire has some great powerplay options, the only other weapon I like so much are the Enforcer Cannons by Pranav Antal. I absolutely loathe the idea of powerplay only ships/accessories, but it is what it is.

Thank you for sharing your ships! ^-^

I am not very creative when it comes to ship naming. Most of my ships are named after some movie or TV show. My CMDR (and forum name) and carrier are named after´one of the greatest movies ever made (my carrier is called "Night On Earth"). Most my ship names have some form of Monty Python context (Grill-O-Mat Snack Bar, Nudge Nudge, Brave Sir Robin, Dinsdale, Luigi Vercotti all come from the Flying Circus). "Share and Enjoy" is, of course, a Douglas Adams reference.

Some names are just because I found it funny in the moment (I named my Krait "Intentionally Blank" because I had come across a book again at that time where the first page was labeled "This page is intentionally blank"). Starbuck is of course a Galactica reference (as explained above), and Travis Bickle is the greatest "Taxi Driver" of all time (Dolphin, Bubble Taxi... you get it). And finally, "Don't Call Me Shirley" is just the funniest phrase Leslie Nielsen ever said in any movie.

Maybe I watch too much TV.
