Brain trees - How To Guide

Nice pic Cmdr Baton.

Just completed a survey of 60+ systems in and around the TEPUAE AA-A H503 nebula, mostly A, F and G class stars. At least 10 systems had prime candidates for trees.
No life to report unfortunately.

Thx for trying :) Bear in mind that on these worlds there will be some bark mounds, and quite often I find some in the ejecta lines, so when you check for trees you may consider doing couple more glides around, maybe you get lucky. Not many of them have been found so far, so it would be valuable information.

Oh Bark mounds! Would love to find one of those. Thanks for the tip on finding them will definitely keep an eye out.
Actually I'm a bit concerned about them. I visited two sites, Colonia and another that's on the way there(can't remember the name off the top of my head) and all I found was empty POIs.
I've read that they can be shot and harvested like a common outcrop rock, if these things don't grow back or grow back very slowly then uncaring cmdr's could drive them to extinction.
Maybe it's just a bug in these locations I don't know, but there's a known group some 3kLyrs "west" of Colonia that I plan to drop in on in the near future. Hope that one is there because I'd really like to see a Bark Mound.

Lots of known locations have disappeared with 3.0 so maybe one of those. You cannot destroy them apart from small crystals that grow on some of them, but it does not affect the site. Empty POI means there is an outcrop there and you failed to spot it, it can be tricky. I usually stop directly above POI, than slowly change my scanner to minimum range repositioning myself in the process to be exactly in the center, then point at the body marker, and typically this is were the outcrop is - kind of like this - https://youtu.be/maP_JZeihaI
Of course it can be a bug and there is nothing there but I recall only once when I could not locate anything on the ground and I did not spend long there, so probably overlooked it.

Ah nice to know they can't be destroyed. Thought I had the pinpoint landing down but it's entirely possible I missed them, either way my quest shall continue.
Thank you Cmdr Baton. o7

One interesting find, as I was travelling through Col 173 I've spotted this big ejecta crater with a smaller one inside it.
So I went to check and both have brain trees in the middle, just couple of minutes flight from each other :)

Following discovery of second location with space pumpkins by cmdr Clobbertime (https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...foil-Hattery?p=6626257&viewfull=1#post6626257) I am doing lots of scanning on HIP 37610 to see if I can find another site.

There is plenty of ejecta craters and brain trees so I am marking those as well. So far I got:

ejecta craters:
HIP 37610 A 6 C A -23.9564 102.293
HIP 37610 A 6 C A 49.094 140.7287
HIP 37610 A 6 C A 5.1621 -132.2743
HIP 37610 A 6 C A -2.2928 -147.0796
HIP 37610 A 6 C A -45.2371 -85.421
HIP 37610 A 6 C A -35.6671 -47.1181

ejecta lines:
HIP 37610 A 6 C A -7.4327 108.8068
HIP 37610 A 6 C A 30.3024 133.0154
HIP 37610 A 6 C A -29.8723 -70.3326

this one I am not sure, it may be on the edge of ejecta lines from the big crater up north

Will update the OP later with info about ejecta lines, but here it goes:

Following discovery of pumpkins on HIP 37610 I did a brief scan of the surface. No luck with pumpkins, despite my effort I could not locate more sites, but I managed to scan some ejecta lines, and that was more interesting:

So as far as brain trees in the center of ejecta craters I got one site in each of them - 6 craters, 6 sites:
HIP 37610 A 6 C A 49.094 140.7287
HIP 37610 A 6 C A 5.1621 -132.2743
HIP 37610 A 6 C A -2.2928 -147.0796
HIP 37610 A 6 C A -45.2371 -85.421
HIP 37610 A 6 C A -23.9564 102.293
HIP 37610 A 6 C A -35.6671 -47.1181

That was the usual, but scanning ejecta lines was much more interesting, I got 12 sites, 5 of which are around one big crater.
So there seems to be much more than suspected, but I got use to this, we find only small fraction of what seems to sit on the surface :)

brain trees within ejecta lines:
HIP 37610 A 6 C A -7.4327 108.8068
HIP 37610 A 6 C A 30.3024 133.0154
HIP 37610 A 6 C A -20.8729 155.9022
HIP 37610 A 6 C A -29.8723 -70.3326
HIP 37610 A 6 C A -58.4948 -87.2587
HIP 37610 A 6 C A -58.9494 -51.9721
HIP 37610 A 6 C A -69.7909 -121.1664
HIP 37610 A 6 C A 35.1009 155.0964
HIP 37610 A 6 C A 39.5774 174.3157
HIP 37610 A 6 C A 46.9319 87.7625
HIP 37610 A 6 C A 56.2855 172.0577
HIP 37610 A 6 C A -19.9963 -82.9471

marked locations on below screenshot are not exact, but more or less where the sites are:

Update:

Doing more planetary surveys looking for pumpkins, some interesting finds:

Found some brain trees on HIP 41908 but I do not see any ejecta crater on it, so it is possible that they do exist on such bodies as well:

HIP 41908 AB 1 C A 2.2886 1.8509
HIP 41908 AB 1 C A -3.0142 52.7901

Found couple of sites with brain trees in the middle of nowhere, not in the crater and outside of any visible ejecta lines, like this site below:
HIP 34246 AB 1 C A -5.6721 169.2383

Good guide. Is there a reason to see them yet though?

I do it for looks and because they helped me to locate two previously unknown Guardian areas in far nebulae. Apart from that good source of materials. Not really much if someone is not into it :)

Update:

Systematic search proves that there is lots of brain trees in the ejecta lines and simply in random places on the surface.
Another example is HIP 42459 7 E A

I found two ejecta craters with usual site in the middle:
HIP 42459 7 E A 11.0972 -117.8726
HIP 42459 7 E A -33.7669 130.5869

Apart from that I found 9 sites in ejecta lines:
HIP 42459 7 E A -4.7386 -96.6657
HIP 42459 7 E A -10.3538 -124.8252
HIP 42459 7 E A 8.3435 -102.3203
HIP 42459 7 E A 12.941 -127.3075
HIP 42459 7 E A 14.7651 -79.0252
HIP 42459 7 E A 19.9163 -170.1157
HIP 42459 7 E A 21.9117 -102.9724
HIP 42459 7 E A -29.5368 108.7828
HIP 42459 7 E A -30.1163 119.4846

and three sites in random places:
HIP 42459 7 E A 11.4562 99.9636
HIP 42459 7 E A 15.7521 101.8953
HIP 42459 7 E A -24.8456 4.0076
