Just to be clear, animations/graphics do not by definition have collision logic. They could fit a cutter on a small pad... And you could make it come out of one. And if the leaving of a station only involved looking out the cockpit from the small cockpit you could be sitting in something is basically a VR simulator cockpit watching as you move in what is not really a full ship leaving a station.

So, again, the logic of leaving a cockpit from a small pad is completely doable. You are not neccesarily in your whole ship when you are flying out. It may just be the cockpit loaded with a the image of the bay moving around you or something similar. It can be done cheaper than a full ship always moving. I would be suprised if it fully loaded everything.

Okay but the ships and stations have collision

Okay but the ships and stations have collision
How do you know your ship is loaded and not estimate or that the insides of the walls don't have one way collision or something. The can make it work how thy want. You can make a ship go out anything if desired. The cockpit view could be a render from a cockpit instance and the collision estimated and hence turned off when desired. Even if fully rendering it can do what it wants.
