Bring on the DOOM!

MS is buying pretty much everyone right now, and 'Brexit Britiain' is ripe for our American cousins to plunder? I'd prefer MS over Tencent in truth, but that is just because MS has a slightly stronger games history that does not involve seeing gaming as JUST a cashcow, they do know about other stuff relating to games.

I saw both videos by Buur and OA and personaly I'm a bit devided by whatever outcome.
A take over by Microsoft or Sony could turn out good or bad regarding the games Frontier published.
On the other hand Frontier could do with some proper company management, there's a reason their shares plummeted so deep.

I can't say "things" are going so well the last year or two regarding any game Frontier has come up with, not only Odyssey was a disappointment.
Both MS and Sony are capable to publish good games while letting the original creators do what they do best, create games and not manage a company.

I'm not very excited to see Tencent take over business though.

Just my two cents, not that it matters.

Yes, i do and believe so.. Simply because you consider your (as with others) concerns greater than everyone elses and when the focus moves to something some ppl don't like then the drama. begins... like always... regardless of who says what.
The game is not allowed to breathe and far too much hate.
There is very little room for critical thinking on these forums as to when some things may or may not be possible, if ever, even if told no.
It is "i want now" rather than "can it be done now?" or "is it possible?"..
The word "demand" is not often used but that's what it equates to while muck is thrown, like a child who does not get its way.
The forum needs to grow up and stop pooping on the game because no good will come from it.
If you look at the manifesto of the "A Call For Frontier To Put VR Legs On The Upcoming Road Map" thread, it was stated that "We would ask FDev to roadmap or otherwise clarify the plans for VR’s future. If roadmapped we would of course expect a later waypoint on the route, to ensure that Frontier can focus on fixing Odyssey's more pressing issues, for everyone's benefit." - So much for "I want it now" 🤔 All we are asking for is a pledge from the company to do a very small tweak to the game that ties up elements that we have already proven are within the games capability, and that they do so AFTER EVERYTHING ELSE.
I spoke with Jay and the reason he said "a later waypoint" rather than specify what would be coming before VR was he wasn't sure if the company would want to put VR into PC version before console port so they could port it to PS with support for PSVR2 on PS5 when they launched on console, or if they'd just want to get the console launch done then come back to VR.

And as for the hate, yeah, there's been a lot of that thrown in our direction, summer 2020 seen us getting called all sorts like "entitled boxhead whiners", even yet, in this very thread even we are getting told to go play other games, such community spirit.

I think it's kind of obvious that FDev would want to fix the EDO lighting and fps drops, integrating the EDO planet generation engine into EDH, and possibly get those disparate PC players into the same universe before they tackle consoles and VR..

Not that I'm condoning or condemning FDev's silence and lack of a roadmap, but it seems par for the course for this company.. It's nothing new at all, there have been many periods like that in the past. Which kind of leaves us hanging, with but the dramatic forum game to play (apart from what we already have in the actual game)..!

Edit: What I mean in the first paragraph, to unify the EDH/EDO clients and letting them play in a single universe. Something I think I remember they said, but hard to remember after reading so many posts and so much speculation.. :D

Question; would a buyout be good for Elite ?
Fdev worked for almost 3 years on Odyssey and turned out a total buggy mess that even powerful computers couldn’t run.
I am not sure what is worse that Fdev new Odyssey wasn’t ready or they though it was fine when they released Odyssey.

Every update release by Fdev has many large bugs some that breaks the game till Fdev has to scramble to fix.

We have a pattern of new Elite features being introduced into the game that are not fully functional or just left alone.

I am thinking it might be good for Elite to have someone that will require a higher standard of game excellence and performance and not be happy with mediocre programming.

Yeah, I said that, following this wonderful, contented comment:
Now they've thrown the VR players under a bus in pursuit of the fortnite playerbase's money and wondered why their mediocre grindfest gameplay with exorbitant hardware requirements hasn't set the world ablaze?
And that is the most polite part...

And your VR thread members insisted that you were "really nice guys" when I posted a comment from a game developer who didn't add VR to a game because the diehards were quite so salty - why even your forum name is an insult to Frontier... Precious, or what?

Edit: Typos

Returning to Starfield and Braben feels it’s important that Bethesda recognizes the challenges that exist in the modern digital world and learn from the recent releases – including No Man’s Sky and Cyberpunk 2077 – which have become targets of social media vilification because of missed deadlines or lackluster content.

“It is a risk,” he explains. “Some games can very much become all things to all people. We have this with Elite Odyssey as well, where people expect every ship interior to be different. Let’s see how Bethesda does. I don’t want to be criticizing them. I think they’re a very good company but I do think they’ve gone live so early that they’ve got their work cut out. That’s the truth of it.”

I think Dave is ready to cash in.

This is all fascinating, the narratives being woven in this thread.
Hell, there's even a small chance it's not nonsense!
Well, the title DOES imply "Bring on the Doom!" so, we all have to do our part.

And you can mod X4 quite nicely also (i did a good mod build of it a few years back), although that Elite DNA (principally the awesome simulated galaxy) is just special imho.
As I mentioned a dozen posts back, Starfield is scheduled for release around 11/11/2022 (gee, just like Skyrim, huh?). As with a number of their games, I assume mods will be allowed (and all over the place). Fine with me as long as it's a single player game. I expect the first mod I'll get is a coffee cup holder on my ship's command chair.

Just as an observer, it seemed to me that they realized how bad the optimization was on EDO once it was released and needed to fix that for Console release. As an observer, it also seemed to me that they tried fixing things, caused 20 more bugs each time they did, adding 20 new things and basically going in 15 different directions at the same time while not fixing the actual issue that stops them from releasing on console. I could be wrong, so please don't no one take my observations as gospel.

If a change in management of the entire operation means that someone sets a goal and says "I want this done yesterday" it'll mean that the thing gets fixed, the roadblock to console release is smashed out of the way, and things can get going on their own mad way. We'll get Thargoids on foot, maybe get COL 70 Sector opened to continue the Thargoid narrative, and the console users will get to have their brains eaten by aliens along with us PC players. No one wants to die alone.

I kept the original Kickstarter page bookmarked all this time as i occasionally just love to go and watch all those old video's.

I like to think everyone at Frontier Dev occasionally dips into all those 'Updates' video's to keep their eye on the goal as Sir David saw it.

Am I insane or did Braben tell Bathesda that his audience expects the ship interiors to all be different for his game Elite. He seemed to be saying that there will be ship interiors… or that there already are…. But they are quite similar to one another so he wants to see what Bathesda does with there ship interiors….

No, I don't think so. He's just giving an example of a challenge they (FD) face with customer expectations and see how Bethesda does facing similar challenges, not specifically ship interiors.
