Bring on the DOOM!

Finally, a forum memeber (typo intended) with the cringe VR tag who says something that is sensible. (No offense, or... Maybe a little, but the whole VR campaign is laughable and is in fact the perfect example of why your comment here is correct.)
cringe tag ? says the person with the 1337 spk forum name.

Jesus... does your hypocrisy know no limits?

as for frontier selling.... if they do they do. it may be a good thing or a bad thing . I have no idea. for me the game has not gone in a great direction the last few years, but I still have fun with it. if it did happen I hope it is a proper games developer like Microsoft or Sony who bought it rather than tencent or someone like that. the latter may be more likely however given they already have a stake.

looking historically when a small Dev gets bought out by a big one, it has been a mixed bag.

I just want to point out how badly frontier have treated this game and community that even the mere rumor that the game might be bought out brings so much joy to people. Lol.
I may be completely wrong about this but I have the sense that a lot of the people on the forums have sort of a bad ex-wife relationship with ED. Something along the lines of: they’ve played it for multiple thousands of hours and over that time it stopped exciting them the way it did at the start of their relationship. Eventually the relationship turned sour, then bitter, and now they don’t really even play anymore but follow closely enough to take shots at it and take glee in anything negative that happens.

As a newer but established player (~700 hours,) I find a lot of what happens on the forum a bit confusing and kind of depressing. It’s probably the most hours I have in any game and I’m still finding things almost every day that are fresh and exciting. I feel like the new boyfriend. I know she’s not perfect and has been through a lot and I love her and appreciate her for the amazing game she is!

There seems to be a lot of criticism on here from people who have (or maybe had) passion for the game, but their love for it is long gone. Their “ex” has changed and gone her own way and when she falls on hard times it brings a smile to their face. The whole thing is pretty toxic for everyone involved. The best path forward might be for both sides to admit they’ve grown apart, don’t share each other’s vision of the future, and just went their separate ways.

Or maybe I’m reading too much into everything and this is just how Internet forums are.

Not sure what you mean by that, Tencent own less than Ten(per)Cent according to this, as such I wouldn't be certain if that gives them any right to do anything, unless I'm missing something?
Of the "external to the company" stockholders, Tencent hold the largest block. According to regulations and any other senseless 'logic' invested in such trading, if another outside organisation makes a bid to buy the existing shareholders, if they match the offer, would be permitted to purchase, thus forcing the outsider to lose their takeover bid.

Well it is pretty gloomy around here these days, but not having played ED for a couple of weeks while doing work, it is a mighty fine game once you get back, even if you just stroll around looking at the eye candy. Credit to the devs.

I'd go a little further beyond the visuals in truth. Sure there are some inconsistencies in early game progress, but overall now heading into my third week in the game (EDH), it IS mostly a very good Elite experience. Keep in mind i don't engineer or powerplay and mostly fly around looking for profit, with a bit of system/planet scanning here and there. I also don't demand the game drop zillions into my lap just because....it has a calming therapeutic power about it, the sound and visuals of your daily flying around a big part of that.

Cough..sorry.. this is the thread of DOOM!

Well it is VERY weird the radio silence isn't it.

It's their game to do as they wish - and seeing as how toxic the community in general is, well, you reap what you sow, eh?
being toxic to the devs is one thing and that is not right.... but equally blaming the players is also wrong. I am fortunate. I have a very high end pc so can play the game as well as it is possible to play it. but there are many many players (esp console ones) who have been left hanging for ages now regarding ED:O and I don't think you saying it's their fault for FD going silent because they are angry is right either
FD pitched a product to us, and we bought in. at its core the agreement made from FD with us was that the game would release pretty bare bones but would be fleshed out over time. so the players (or customers) were asked to take a leap of faith but trust that FD would make best efforts to create their vision
imo your post rat catcher is a similar logic as that used by CIG blaming players (roadmap watchers or some such) for them deciding to remove the road map due to their unexpected expectations
DESPITE Erin Roberts saying that everything on the roadmap was well under way and was the least which was realistically achievable.

imo it is not the players fault in the case of CIG and it isn't the players fault in Elite Dangerous.

I do still like elite dangerous and play it from time to time so am not the jilted lover wishing harm on the game either ...... but I think it is possible to still get some enjoyment from the game but equally still think it has dissapointed in many areas

Yep... guilty as charged, M'lud...

I created a farcical thread to take the mickey out of the 'community', awful, aren't I?

I assume you have read all of the maunderings I've posted here, and that your understanding of language at least matches my own?

ETA: I am playing ED: O virtually every day, for hours at a time - normally with a small group of friends, where there is much joviality and enjoyment... Yes, we all have powerful PC's too!
