Newcomer / Intro Bubble?

Hey Everyone,
So what's this bubble I keep hearing about and how do I see it. I keep seeing things like, "it's best to explore, outside the bubble." Is that true. I'm not sure what setting to use to see the bubble in horizons. I don't have odyssey.

Thank you!

The bubble is the volume roughly centred on Sol where the majority of inhabited systems are.

You can explore anywhere but to get your name on the maps etc you need to be the first person to find something and sell the data to Universal Cartographics obviously to have the best chance of doing this you need to be outside the well travelled regions. How far you need to get from the bubble depends on where you are heading towards.
Famous locations, pretty places for photos etc will have more people travelling to them so fewer chances of being the first to find something really dull looking regions with no well known stars will have fewer visitors so your chances will be better closer in.

On the old version of the galaxy map there used to be a tab option to show the volumes controlled by the various powers it looked like a cluster of multicoloured soap bubbles and gave a good impression of the extent of the bubble.

That's gone? Doesn't say much for PP's chances at a rework if true.

Got (one of) it:

The bubble is just the civilized area, centered around the SOL system. It's about 500LY across.

So it's not a thing you can see, really. It just refers to the most-played and most-inhabited/discovered areas.

The screenshot that Ashnak posted of the Powerplay areas gives a good idea of it.

When people say you should explore "outside the bubble" they mean get away from this highly-played area.

Also be aware that the area around the Bubble has itself been explored pretty heavily over the years - you can still get your name against undiscovered planets within visited systems, and find the occasional unvisited system, but to log lots of brand new systems you'd generally need to put a few thousand LY between yourself and Sol.

i remember years back thats where we started, then cmdrs moved out. up up and away so to say. colonia didnt exsist except under a diferent name.but the bubble was the main hub it was where you are ,there was no starters systems you went into game, this game has changed so much. the bubble system are within reach of any ship with a decent jump range without engineering if you have the creds to buy the the fsd modules .07

That's awesome, thanks for all the info. I haven't even been to Sol yet. I have a permit for a few places including Sol. But I've been hanging out in Ochosi trying to rank up in the Federation. I just hit Lieutenant. I received an invite to a few of the engineers, visited a couple, but I don't really know how to use them yet. It seems they want stuff I don't have. I guess my main objective at this point is just to make as much money as I can to get better ships. I tried my hand at one of the road2riches apps the other day and made about 26 million in about 10 or 12 hours. Is that a good chunk in that time frame do you think? I was just trying to break up the steady grind of courier missions ranking up. I was also considering getting a mining vessel and trying my hand at that for a change. Maybe a Type 9 but that's 75 million or so, I'm getting there, I'm at about 63 mil now. But then I know it's good to have enough to buy it back if you need to. I know everyone has different opinions but what do you guys think is the quickest way to make money?

The biggest ship I have tried mining in is an Anaconda but with a lower cargo capacity than it could have, a Python is a pretty good mining ship. I find I enjoy mining more in shorter sessions so there is no point in having huge cargo capacity which has been known to cause issues with prices when selling in the past.

My opinion is as I intend to play the game for as long as I can I am not too fussed about how fast I make credits, mining can be good if you find the right material and market, exobiology can pay very well if you are the first to find some of the more valuable things.

To be honest I still think you should have around three times the price of a new ship before you buy it not just for the rebuy but for better modules, some of the ships are right dogs as bought. (Yes I am thinking of the Python here)

You can also get an idea of its location on EDSM (Elite Dangerous Star Map), "my travel map" will show your journeys in and beyond the bubble if you register there, and upload your journals.

Is the Anaconda bigger or better than the Type 9? You mentioned the 3 times the price before and I think that makes perfect sense. I'm working on it!

Also be sure to have plenty of money to upgrade the ship's modules. When you buy a ship it has all E grade modules, which are the worst. Most ships can barely fly stock. And the upgrades cost more than the ship hull. A lot more.

Check prices before committing to buying a new ship. You're better off waiting than buying too soon, so try to be patient :)

As for good ways to make money, there are many, and learning each one will take time.

If you like exploring ( and have Odyssey), Exobiology pays very well

If you like combat you can learn to leverage pirate massacre missions to make bunches of creds.

If you like a more relaxing route, mining can be extremely profitable.

If you just want to do some space trucking, hauling and trading can also be quite lucrative.

So figure out what you want to try first, and jump in learning it.

So how do I do that? Register and upload?

So I don't have odyssey. Is there no exobiology in Horizon?
