The Buckyball Racing Club is pleased to announce that it has been granted an exclusive contract to fly stunt vehicles for a new remake of H. B. Halicki's classic 20th century motion picture Gone in 60 Seconds, which is being produced by Clayakarma Electronics Partners.

The studio will record the action using the same telepresence technology installed in fighter bay hangars equipped on ships such as the legendary Keelback, providing audiences with the most immersive virtual reality experience ever. Pilots with recording hardware installed aboard their ships will fly stunts which can be relived by anyone with a telepresence playback unit as though they were part of the action themselves.

Club members may sign up to participate in up to three scenes in which the protagonist must steal either a small, medium or large ship from nearby stations. Clayakarma Electronics Partners have generously agreed to reward the top pilot(s) in the event by offering paintjobs as prizes.

Please note that the neither the Buckyball Racing Club nor Clayakarma Electronics Partners condone piracy or theft. All club members assisting with the production will be required to supply and "steal" their own ships.

[size=+2]RACE RULES AND REGULATIONS[/size]
In this race you will fly three ships in three attempts to get as far from the station as possible. You will allocate your choice of Small, Medium, and Large ship to normal space, supercruise, and hyperspace, and will win the race by earning points from your ranking in each category.

[size=+1]Rules[/size]
  • Start at Sinclair Port in Clayakarma.
  • Get as far away from the station as you can in sixty seconds.
  • Optionally return to the station and "steal" one or two different sizes of ship within fifteen minutes.
  • No engineered modules or enhanced thrusters are allowed.
  • No ship-launched fighters are allowed.
Points will be awarded for the best performance in each category of theft. Most points wins.
Prizes will be awarded to winners of the individual categories and the overall title.
Play your Joker card to earn a one-time 50% point bonus.

[size=+1]Regulations[/size]
Expand for the full race regulations.
The race runs from Friday December 16th 3320 at 00:00:00 to Thursday December 22nd 3302 at 23:59:59. Entries made wholly or in part outside this period will be rejected. All times are server time.

Only entries made in Open mode will be eligible for classification and prizes. Entries from Solo or Private Group mode will be added to the leaderboard as exhibition runs with their entry endorsed with an x notation. They will not receive a final ranking.

You may enter up to three race categories: Fast and Furious (normal space), Cannonball Run (supercruise) or Gone in 60 Seconds (hyperspace). To participate in multiple categories you must use a different size ship for each, based on its usual landing pad size. For example you could use a Cobra Mk III (small pad), Asp Scout (medium pad) and Beluga Liner (large pad) for the three categories.

You can use a different set of ship/category combinations for subsequent race entries.

To compete in a race category:
  • Take a screenshot of your ship docked on the appropriate size of pad at Sinclair Port. Either the HUD clock or the station clock must be visible. The time displayed will be your start time for the entry.
  • Launch and get as far away from the station as possible in sixty seconds.
  • Take a screenshot showing the distance you travelled with the HUD clock visible. The time displayed must be no more than one minute later than the start time of your entry. For example if you launched at 12:24:53 the latest valid time would be 12:25:53.
A race entry comprises one, two or three different category entries in different size ships. Repeating a race category or flying a previously-flown ship size counts as starting a new entry.

The total elapsed time for a single race entry must be less than fifteen minutes, calculated from the start time of your first category entry to the end time of your final category entry.

You may submit as many race entries as you wish provided each one falls wholly within the race period.

You may choose to withdraw any of your race entries at any time up until the deadline for submissions, so as to give yourself a better chance of winning an individual category. The decision to withdraw a race entry is final. Withdrawn entries may not be reinstated.

You can fly any ship with any non-engineered loadout. Engineered modules, enhanced performance thrusters and frame shift drive injection are not allowed in any race category.
[size=+1]Categories[/size]
A single race entry includes up to three category entries. You must fly a different size ship - Small, Medium or Large - in each category. You can make a different choice of ship per category in subsequent race entries. Expand the spoiler tags for videos demonstrating each category.

Fast and Furious - normal space
Launch from the station and fly in normal space for up to sixty seconds.
Greatest distance covered wins.
Ties will be broken by least time taken.
Engaging your frame shift drive will result in disqualification.
Distance covered in this example video: 17.9km[video=youtube;2c_Oa7_MKn4]https://youtu.be/2c_Oa7_MKn4[/video]
Cannonball Run - supercruise
Launch from the station and escape mass lock.
Charge your frame shift drive and enter supercruise.
Cruise away from the station.
Ties will be broken by least time taken.
Greatest distance covered wins.
Distance covered in this example video: 6.12Mm[video=youtube;4IHY9CqGrt8]https://youtu.be/4IHY9CqGrt8[/video]
Gone in 60 Seconds - hyperspace
Launch from the station and escape mass lock.
Charge your frame shift drive and jump to another system.
Greatest distance jumped wins.
Ties will be broken by least time taken.
Jumps with abnormally long Witchspace time will be accepted as long as the engage message is given with no more than 45 seconds after launch.
Distance covered in this example video: 27.85Ly[video=youtube;ovHkmMOA50k]https://youtu.be/ovHkmMOA50k[/video]
A single race entry will be described as a combination of three category results. If you enter fewer than three categories your result for the missing categories will be zero distance.

[size=+1]Rankings[/size]
Entries in each race category will be ranked according to greatest distance covered.

Where two competitors are tied for distance the racer who attained that distance in the shorter time, according to screenshot evidence, will be ranked higher.

The top nine racers will be awarded points as follows:
25 points for 1st place.
18 points for 2nd place.
15 points for 3rd place.
12 points for 4th place.
10 points for 5th place.
8 points for 6th place.
4 points for 7th place.
2 points for 8th place.
1 point for 9th place.

Competitors who fly a ship without shields, armour or hull reinforcement packages and who are pledged to a Powerplay faction hostile to Yuri Grom may play their "Win it or bin it" joker card to receive 50% bonus points for a single category entry.

The overall winner of the event will be the racer who accrues the most points across all three race categories. Anyone who enters at least one category is eligible for a place in the overall classification.

Prizes, in the form of free paintjobs will be offered to the winners of each category, as well as the overall winner.

[size=+1]Best entries[/size]
The final classification will include only one race entry per competitor. Where a competitor submits multiple race entries, they will be sorted as follows:
  • In descending order of distance covered in the Gone in 60 Seconds category.
  • In ascending order of time taken in the Gone in 60 Seconds category, if multiple entries are tied for distance.
  • In descending order of distance covered in the Cannonball Run category.
  • In descending order of distance covered in the Fast and Furious category.
Once each racer's best entry has been decided, according to the above rules, the classification for each category will be calculated and points will be awarded. The overall winner will then be decided.

A racer may at any time during the race period request that one or more race entries be withdrawn from classification. For example he might choose to do so if he had done better in the Cannonball Run category in an entry other than his best. By withdrawing the best entry he would increase his chances of winning Cannonball Run at the cost of sacrificing position in Gone in 60 Seconds.

Once withdrawn, a race entry may not be reinstated.

[size=+1]Category assignment[/size]
Repeating a ship size or category attempt before all three size/category combinations have been completed will start a new race entry with the missing categories scored as zero.

Starting a category attempt more than fifteen minutes after the first category attempt of the race entry will start a new race entry.

For example, suppose CMDR Thrust jumps 32.6Ly in an Asp Explorer, cruises 6Mm in an Anaconda then flies 12.9km in an Eagle. His race entry is 12.9km / 6Mm / 32.6Ly.

Then CMDR Thrust cruises 5.8Mm in an Asp Explorer, returns to the station and flies 11.3km in a Federal Dropship. That would be a repeat of a ship size and his entry with the Asp would be 0 / 5.8Mm / 0. If he proceeds to jump 36.4Ly in an Anaconda and cruise 6.1Mm in a Cobra Mk III his third entry would be 11.3km / 6.1Mm / 36.4Ly.

CMDR Thrust now has three race entries of which the latest, by virtue of the highest range in the Gone in 60 Seconds category, would be counted on the leaderboard.

[size=+1]The joker[/size]

The joker card may be played once per race category per competitor.

Only one use of the joker is allowed per race entry.

A competitor must declare his intention to play the joker within 24 hours of starting his race run. Declarations made after this time will be rejected; the joker card may be retained for later use. Note: Evidence of completing the race may be submitted at any time up to and including the deadline for submissions; only the intention to play the joker must be made within 24 hours.

The joker card may only be used when a competitor meets all of the following conditions:
  • He is pledged to a Powerplay faction hostile to Yuri Grom.
  • His ship is fitted with Lightweight Alloys.
  • His ship is not fitted with any Hull Reinforcement Packages.
  • His ship is not fitted with a Shield Generator.
  • He has not previously declared the use of a joker in the same category entry at any time.
  • He is not declaring the use of a joker in a different category of the same race entry.
Screenshots submitted as race evidence must show the HOSTILE warning at the bottom-right of the HUD to confirm eligibility to play the joker.

Valid use of the joker card entitles the competitor to receive 50% extra points for the category entry in which the joker is used. For instance if he places third he will receive 23 points instead of the usual 15. A competitor who finishes outside the top nine places for that category entry, and would therefore normally not earn any points at all, will instead receive 1 point when using the joker.

Note that use of the joker in a particular entry does not guarantee that that entry will be counted as the best entry for the final classification.

[size=+1]Prizes[/size]
The winner of each of the Fast and Furious, Cannonball Run and Gone in 60 Seconds race categories will receive their choice of game extras from the Frontier Store up to the value of £5. The overall winner will be eligible for a further £5 prize.

Prizes are cumulative. If one competitor finishes first in more than one category and/or the overall classification he may claim the corresponding additional value of prize.

Prizewinners may choose any paint jobs, paint packs, bobbleheads, weapon colour modifiers or other items subsequently added to the Game Extras category by Frontier before the end of the race, with a total value up to and including the prize amount.

Prizewinners may claim a single prize or multiple individual prizes whose total value does not exceed the total prize amount.

[size=+2]HOW TO ENTER[/size]
See How to enter on the Buckyball Racing Club homepage for general details on entering the race.

Only entries made wholly within the period 3302-12-16 00:00:00 to 3302-12-22 23:59:59 server time will be accepted. The deadline for submissions and entry withdrawal requests is 09:00:00 server time on Friday December 23rd 3302. Entries received after that time will be rejected and all existing entries will become final.

Entries must include:
  • Your CMDR name.
  • Your forum name if not the same as your CMDR name.
  • Game mode (Open, Solo, Private Group).
  • For each race category - Fast and Furious, Cannonball Run or Gone in 60 Seconds - you are entering:
    • Your ship size - Small, Medium or Large.
    • Your ship type.
    • Your ship name.
    • A screenshot of your modules panel showing the class and rating of all internal components, hardpoints and utility mounts installed. [size=-2]Multiple screenshots should be provided if the UI needs to be scrolled to fit all modules in view.[/size]
    • A screenshot of your ship on the pad at your starting station showing the station clock or the HUD clock. The time shown will be your start time for the entry.
    • A screenshot taken no more than 60 seconds later than the start time showing the clock and the distance you have travelled.

Screenshots for the Fast and Furious category must be taken in normal space. Screenshots for the Cannonball Run category may be taken in normal space or supercruise. Screenshots for both categories must show the distance to Sinclair Port station. Target the station before launching so that the distance is displayed at the bottom-left of the HUD.

Screenshots for the Gone in 60 Seconds category can be taken in normal space, supercruise or the galaxy map showing the distance to the Clayakarma station. You may submit multiple screenshots for this category; one showing your arrival at your destination system with the HUD clock visible to prove you arrived within 60 seconds and a second screenshot a few seconds later showing the distance. It doesn't matter if the distance screenshot is taken more than 60 seconds after your start time provided the race organisers are satisfied that it was taken promptly after the first - valid - screenshot.

Because hyperspace time is dependent on local network conditions, players with faster internet connections often gain an advantage in Buckyball Races. If your hyperspace jump in the Gone in 60 Seconds category takes longer than 15 seconds after the "4 3 2 1 Engage" countdown has finished, you may submit a third screenshot showing the 0 of the countdown. If at least 15 seconds of your allocated 60 are still available at the time shown in the screenshot your entry will be allowed to stand.

Except when submitting separate evidence of distance and time for the Gone in 60 Seconds category as described above, you may submit only one screenshot per category entry. Where two competitors are tied for distance the tie will be broken by shorter time taken to reach that distance, so you must decide whether to wait until the last second to take your screenshot or submit one which shows an earlier time in the hope of avoiding a tie.

Beauty shot
The top three competitors in the overall classification will be asked to provide a beauty shot of one of the ships used in the race, which will be displayed for all to see at the end of the event.

Beauty shots should be taken using the classified camera (Control-Alt-Space) and should clearly show your ship. The recommended way to take a beauty shot is to jump to a system with a bright star (eg F class star) and orientate your ship so that the star fills the top left quadrant of the screen. Then position the classified camera to show your ship illuminated by the light from the star .

Evidence
All entries must be accompanied by valid evidence.

Acceptable evidence of completing the race includes screenshots or video of your run.

Expand for full details on evidence required for this race.
Screenshots may be taken using the in-game screenshot function (F10 key) or your choice of third-party software.

Submitting evidence
Evidence may be posted to this thread, sent by forum private message to furrycat or emailed to furrycat <symbol: commercial at> buckyballracing <symbol: dot> org <symbol: dot> uk.

If providing screenshot evidence by email you can attach screenshots to your email. This forum no longer has support for attaching files to private messages.

Alternatively you can create an archive (in, eg zip or rar format) and provide a link by private message or email to a website which hosts that archive. If providing video evidence you should instead link to a publically-accessible video hosting site such as Youtube. Entries will not be accepted if the race organisers cannot view your evidence. The racer organisers will not under any circumstances create accounts on hosting platforms in order to view your evidence.

Evidence posted to this thread should be in image album or video format only.

Evidence in other formats may be accepted at the race organisers' discretion.

Videos
It is highly recommended that you record a video of your entire race entry and capture individual frames of the video for use as screenshot evidence. Doing so will free you from the pressure of having to remember to hit the screenshot key in the heat of the action, and will protect you from the momentary lag which can sometimes occur when taking high-resolution screenshots. All sixty seconds count.

Furthermore, recording the race will allow you to play back and analyse your entry to see where you can improve your time.

This forum has direct support for Youtube videos. To post your video in this thread, use the [video=youtube] tag with your video's Youtube ID, for example [video=youtube;6Pk5rjMu11Q]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Pk5rjMu11Q[/video].

You are of course free to use a video host other than Youtube.

When submitting video evidence you may specify the timestamp at which you wish your category entry to be considered complete. If you do not specify a time, the latest frame in which a valid clock time is visible will be used for the Fast and Furious and Cannonball Run categories, and the first frame in which a valid clock time is visible after you exit hyperspace in the Gone in 60 Seconds category.

Image albums
The preferred way to provide screenshot evidence is in an image album. This forum has direct support for the imgur image hosting service.

If you have posted your screenshots (in chronological order) to imgur you can attach them inline by including the album URL in [imgur] tags, for example [imgur]ttYOV[/imgur].

Alternatively, a direct link to the album's URL may be provided, eg http://imgur.com/a/ttYOV.

You are of course free to use an image host other than imgur.

[size=+2]QUESTIONS[/size]
Do I have to post an intent to race before competing?
Not if you don't want to. It's cool if you do, so other racers can look out for you on the course, but it's optional.

Are Engineer modifications allowed in this race?
No.

Is frameshift drive injection synthesis allowed in this race?
No.

Am I allowed to fit my ship with...
If it can be used by a player who does not have access to Horizons or if it does not increase your speed then it is eligible for this race. Engineered modules and enhanced performance thrusters may not be used. Planetary Approach Suites, Passenger Cabins and Hangars - fighter or planetary vehicle - are allowed but you may not deploy the fighter.

Can I deploy my fighter?
No.

Is there good outfitting in Clayakarma?
Unfortunately not. You should outfit your ships elsewhere and either fly or transfer them to Sinclair Port before the race.

Do I have to fly a specific size ship in a particular category?
No. You can fly any size ship as long as you use a different size in each category. If you submit multiple race entries you may use different ship/category combinations in each.

The category rules as somewhat complex
The aim is to balance the use of different ships across categories and to reward a consistent performance. If each category were scored completely independently it would be easy for racers to make multiple attempts at each category then cherry pick the best three for their final submission. By requiring three category attempts in less than fifteen minutes the race organisers hope to encourage competitors to demonstrate mastery of all three categories in a short space of time.

Couldn't someone cheat in the Fast and Furious category by briefly supercruising?
If the race organisers suspect that a racer may cheated in this way they will ask for video evidence of the whole category entry. Failure to supply such evidence on request will result in the disqualification of that race entry.

I might be at an unfair disadvantage in the Cannonball Run category if other ships mass lock me
Fly an Imperial Cutter.

I can't afford Small, Medium and Large ships
You are free to enter just one or two race categories. Your distance for any category you don't enter will be recorded as zero.

I refuse to play in Open
You are welcome to run the course in Private Group or Solo mode and submit an entry. Your attempt will appear on the leaderboard as an exhibition run and be excluded from ranking but you will still be able to compare your efforts to others'.

Do I have to sign up to Powerplay?
Only if you intend to play the "Win it or bin it" joker card.

Hanger: 21-Charlie
Station: MacKenzie Relay
Planet: Emerald
System: Cemiess

Chief Engineer Gyeong Castro sipped her tea, enjoying the respite from the demands of her Patron, Commander Inga Stevenson. Not that her and her team were sitting around doing nothing. They were busy doing some badly needed maintenance on FSDs of Haulier than Thou and Slave of the Empire, plus ensuring the recently purchased modules for the Commander's new Asp Explorer, Emerald Dawn, could be easily be swapped in and out.

She also had a huge list of modules she'd needed to rebuy once the Dawn returned in four days, and the Commander could afford to restore the gutted smaller ships to their former glory.

Suddenly, she felt a shiver run up her spine. "Chief! Call for you, via the deep space comm line!"

Reluctantly, Chief Castro switched her headset from her team's channel to the station's comm relay. "Good morning, Commander! I've got everything lined up for your return. All we need is for you to return the client safely... Wha... You want me to WHAT? Commander, you could barely afford the Dawn... A Type 7? For a race? I doubt you can afford to kit that out!... Borrowing the money is a BAD idea, that's why you wound up selling yourself into slavery the first time!... Okay, that is more reasonable... ooh! Interesting... Okay, Commander, I'll see what I can do!"

She switched back to her team's channel. "Okay, everyone! We've got new orders. Let's meet at the lounge, and describe the plan!"

---===---

Fifteen minutes later, Commander Inga Stevenson was searching through her Asp Explorer's first class passenger lounge, looking for loose change. "Can't afford a Type 7, huh? We'll see about that... what the... ew! This place is getting fumigated once we return!"

I've done this joke before but ... (assuming I get some sleep in the next day or so) ... stating my intent to sit down with a nice big mug of hot chocolate and a pair of comfy slippers and give these rules a damn good reading.

P.S. I'll put in a plug for this race with the final "Kick the Alien" scoreboard update later today.

Am I allowed to have the heavy duty armour mod on my lightweight alloy?

I don't think it should affect anything and it is a PITA to remove and re-roll or buy and sell a (large) ship with 10% loss...

You should be able to store the alloys at the station and have them replace by a standard set of alloys. You can do it even at a station which doesn't sell the standard module for your ship.

Take a screenshot of your ship docked on the appropriate size of pad at the station of your choosing.

Sorry, maybe I'm missing something (I've skim read the rules pending the arrival of my hot drink and slippers) but ... where do we start from? "the station of our choosing", "Sinclair Port station" or "Clayakarma station"?

You should be able to store the alloys at the station and have them replace by a standard set of alloys. You can do it even at a station which doesn't sell the standard module for your ship.

Ahh I didn't realise I could do that.

I also just realised that even if it was allowed it would have to disqualify from playing the joker lol.

And this is something that completely flew over my head. Grammar was right, sentence was not. Sorry about that furrycat! :eek:

I'll be making the trip back from the kicked alien ASAP. Growing a beard and mustache in the meantime.

[size=+2]RACE RULES AND REGULATIONS[/size]
In this race you will fly three ships in three attempts to get as far from the station as possible. You will allocate your choice of Small, Medium, and Large ship to normal space, supercruise, and hyperspace, and will win the race by earning points from your ranking in each category.

[size=+1]Rules[/size]
Points will be awarded for the best performance in each category of theft. Most points wins.
Prizes will be awarded to winners of the individual categories and the overall title.
Play your Joker card to earn a one-time 50% point bonus.

[size=+1]Regulations[/size]

[size=+1]Categories[/size]

Distance covered in this example video: 17.9kmhttps://youtu.be/2c_Oa7_MKn4
Cannonball Run - supercruise
Launch from the station and escape mass lock.
Charge your frame shift drive and enter supercruise.
Cruise away from the station.
Ties will be broken by least time taken.
Greatest distance covered wins.
Distance covered in this example video: 6.12Mmhttps://youtu.be/4IHY9CqGrt8
Gone in 60 Seconds - hyperspace
Launch from the station and escape mass lock.
Charge your frame shift drive and jump to another system.
Greatest distance jumped wins.
Ties will be broken by least time taken.
Jumps with abnormally long Witchspace time will be accepted as long as the engage message is given with no more than 45 seconds after launch.
Distance covered in this example video: 27.85Lyhttps://youtu.be/ovHkmMOA50k
A single race entry will be described as a combination of three category results. If you enter fewer than three categories your result for the missing categories will be zero distance.

[size=+1]Rankings[/size]

[size=+1]Best entries[/size]

[size=+1]Category assignment[/size]

[size=+1]The joker[/size]

[size=+1]Prizes[/size]

[size=+2]HOW TO ENTER[/size]

To post your video in this thread, use the [url] tag with your video's Youtube ID, for example [url]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Pk5rjMu11Q[/url].

[size=+2]QUESTIONS[/size]

Planetary Approach Suites, Passenger Cabins and Hangars - fighter or planetary vehicle - are allowed.

SWEET MOTHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!![woah] That's a lot of rules. I read most of it and I will consider taking part in this event. Also one question, Can I use my engineered FSD?

No engineered modules. So I will need to refit two of my ships with stock modules for this.

Also, since Sabathius is a little financially challenged, he will just have to make the most of what he's got. Which means he's unlikely to be challenging for overall victory.

You're not the only one who is financially challenged. I simply view my lack of funds as a challenge in and of itself. Besides... in these things, I'm usually competing only against myself. :)

The Buckyball Racing Club isn't really about challenging for victory, rather challenging yourself to effectively make the most of what you've got as you say...don't worry, one way or the other, one is ALWAYS qualified for competing ;)

At least for me, usually I'm here mostly for the shenanigans and the "emergent content" :D...also, you'll never stop to be amazed at how much you can learn and improve when you think you already did your best (see the beautiful Kick The Alien event, that has been a shining example, not enough thanks Alec!).

... grrrr... I'm rusting in Rabat (Morocco) for 6 months... 7624km away from my new (monster) rig... If I only could have a yellow Sidewinder to fly home in 5 minutes and run the race... [cry]

Hmmm. This is going to take a bit of thought :)
Time to start transferring ships to Sinclair.

How do you guys video your runs?? Def be easier than the usual f10 for this race.

OBS is free and relatively easy to use.
Shadowplay is good if you have a nvidia card that supports it.

I thought BRC have a quick guide to OBS setup somewhere?
