Well, I'm about to have a go at the Spa Trophy...

Cmdr Samwell Drakhyr
Hauler
Shirley Knot

EDIT: This ship has a reduced size fuel tank, so I'm hoping I can still make it to Hutton Orbital...

Hee Hee, good luck with that, I made a test run to the outpost at Dea Montrona and had planned to check how much fuel I had left after the run, to guess if I'd be okay for Hutton...

..but I forgot!

Okay here's the first update of the Big Board, sorry for the delay - some customs guys at Manfield Orbiter tried to stop me getting out with my three crates of Indi Bourbon, but I managed to give them the slip. They've impounded all the rest though and shut down the factory, so best to leave Manfield Orbiter out of your runs for now at least. Party Poopers!

First thing's first, welcome to the Buckyball Racing Club to first time entrant Tim Falcon, who joins Angel Rose and several returning CMDRs in the pre-flight area, fly hot CMDRs!

Meanwhile, it's really quiet over by the simulator with absolutely nobody waiting to use Tony's expensive new toy.

The race is pretty quiet at the moment, but Kliggson has made a very commendable early run in his DBS Box of Trick making it back to Weyl Gateway in 54:34 almost ten minutes ahead of Alec Turner in another Diamondback, this time an explorer variant called Bananery Fanango. Alec had to overcome several problems including commodities hiding from him at the marketplace (I hope you weren't sampling that Onionhead CMDR), but I'm expecting to see some great times from the DBX in this race, so we've probably not seen the last of the Bananery Fanango.

Meanwhile Mrs Lonnegan's going to be pleased to know that the Spa Trophy is proving popular, CMDR Ceska Zbrojovka delighted her by fetching back 32 tons of Spa products, and enjoyed Hutton Orbital so much that a second trip is planned. That first trip also puts Ceska onto the Best Trader leaderboard with a haul of 502,549Cr. Meanwhile on the ready line Samwell Drakhyr is prepping the "Shirley Knot" by carefully measuring out enough hydrogen fuel for 6,800,000LS of super cruise. Let's hope he gets it right! #RATSIGNAL

I just want to remind CDMRs that the "Mrs Lonnegan's Ultimate Spa Weekend Trophy" is kind of crazy and I'm shocked that Ceska and Samwell are insane enough to try and steal my trophy! ;)

I'll update the board again after midnight if there's any runs today, and should be okay to update nightly after that, so long as I can avoid those pesky customs inspectors.

Conclusion: Yes, the trip to Hutton Orbital can be made with a reduced size fuel tank. I did make sure to fill up by fuel scooping on arrival in Alpha Centauri, which was definitely necessary. The screenshot below shows the state of my fuel tank on arrival at Hutton Orbital. "Main fuel tank drained" was heard about 8000Ls out :)

Well... I was going to do a run... Until I found myself sitting in witchspace for nigh on a minute every time, with one jump taking 1 minute 55 seconds.

Let's try that again...

Yup, same thing here. Decided to have a go anyways. Then happened the nastiness of 2T spawns on two stations. Little back and for, two interdiction evasion and an unofficial time of 1:33:34. Another try next week.

Sorry but it's the Bananery Fandango (with a "d") ... I mean come on, what sort of stupid name is the Bananery Fanango? That would be ridiculous!

Yeah, I've encountered the low spawns too on my Riband run - had to chance my luck and hope there was high stock elsewhere. Fortunately, there was...

I did manage to get a decent run in in the end... Interestingly, the slow jumps seemed to be very system-specific; two jumps in particular on my route seemed especially slow both times, with all the others being completely normal. Most odd.

I must admit, I'd completely forgotten how utterly terrifying it is to hurtle towards the slot in a shieldless Asp slowing down from 395m/s, with no idea whether you'll regain any meaningful directional control before hitting the appropriately-named toast rack. It's also fantastic fun. :D

In a fit of insanity I made a 2nd attempt at the Spa Trophy Run.

WHOO, finally back at Alacarakmo, I hope Mrs Lonnegan likes her stuff. Luckily nothing but smooth sailing, other than some slightly-longer-than-normal witchspace transitions early on slowing me down a hair.

Final time? 3 hours, 27 minutes and 53 seconds for Reckless Abandon. Sorry Ceska.

It's only been a few hours since the last update, but both the Bootlegger Challenge and the Spa Trophy have seen a flurry of activity.

Mrs Lonnegan was pleased to see three CMDRs making Spa runs this evening, Ceska switched ships to his Adder Lady Godiva and knocked a good 10 minutes off his Type-6 time, but was still pipped by Mangel's excellent 3:27:53 in the Reckless Abandon. However another Hauler, the Shirley Knot made it back in a most impressive 3:19:39 flown by CDMR Samwell Drakhyr.

Not to be beaten Ceska Zbrojovka is planning another TWO visits to Hutton, which is leaving me seriously worried that I'm not actually going to win this trophy after all. Clearly I'll have to think of something crazier next time! ;)

Meanwhile in the Bootlegger Challenge itself CMDR Orange Sheets made it back to Weyl Gateway in a respectable 1:33:34 in the Type-6 Lorry of Light despite some highly unusual witchspace temporal storms (it's the Thargoids!!!!). Those storms played havoc with the Lorry of Light's flight recorder though, so the time is pending for now.

All eyes were on another of the medium pads at Weyl Gateway though as the famous Asp Big Bird touched down after a blistering run of 47:18 piloted by CMDR Alot, to take the lead for now.

**Orange Sheets, you just need to email or post your starting and finishing shots at least to get onto the board officially. :)

Oops, I forgot to remove Mangel from the staging area, but I'm off to bed. I'll fix that in tomorrow's update.

The Insanity doesn't stop!!
Won't some one think of the Women and Childeren?!?!

I'll definitly do this in the DBX again.
I know there's atleast a few more min I can shave off this time.

Things can only improve!

Damn, I should not have said that. I still don't understand how it's possible to take off from Leesti, do 2 jumps, and find myself back at Leesti. Can anyone explain that? I really must stop drinking the Evil Juice, it's clearly giving me hallucinations.

I've done a Bake Off rage quit and thrown todays soufle screenshots in the bin.

Sure, but those films were erased by the x-rays in the witchspace. Or a hamster ate them and then the hamster was eaten by a rock star. (Gonna get a better run today and take those pics with protected equipment.)

AALLLOOOTTTTT!!!!!! curse you and your route and your speed! ;)
im gonna have to get out the bigger equipment.

The bigger equipment may have a longer jump range, but it also has a whole lot more inertia... I nearly needed a change of clothes after a few of the approaches on my run...

As for my route... I'm afraid this time around I actually went full software engineer... Faced with having to try and find a good route of 8 stops from 21 options, I made a script to try and work it out... No idea whether it's completely accurate, but given my time clearly the results aren't awful :D
(As an aside, that script is also proving really handy when trying to decide on potential routes for my future race...)

Day 3 of the Buckyball Challenge and trip 3 to Hutton Orbital for CDMR Ceska Zbrojovka, this time in the Diamondback Explorer Gordon Tracy. Ceska moves up to second place in the "Mrs Lonnegan's Ultimate Spa Weekend Trophy", not quite fast enough to move ahead of Samwell Drakhyr, but surely this is a record - has any CMDR ever flown three times to Hutton Orbital in three days? Ceska has now clocked up over 40 million LS of Super Cruise in this race so far, pretty impressive!

Drakhyr also swapped ships for a DBX, entering the Bootlegger Challenge in Black Maria and making it back to Weyl Orbital only about three minutes behind CMDR Alot. Meanwhile CMDR Orange Sheets managed to unscramble his flight recorder data, but had to abort his second run.

First time racer Tim Falcon took the opportunity to jump into Fat Tony's simulator while no one else was using it and registered the first time for a VR run, hindered slightly by the attention to detail of Tony's toy, as it turns out that simulated Mansfield Orbiter has also banned the sale of Indi Bourbon.

No new challenge from me today/tonight.

But I did do a Reconnaissance Run for the Spa Trophy. Testing the viability of a very peculiar fit out.
Let's just say that I'll be making a very serious (or Insane) attempt at claiming that top spot.

Just finished run number 3 which featured a missile. A slight improvement on my first run but I appear to have a new adversary in this race and his name is ONE HOUR. OK, so he doesn't fire missiles at me but he does still elude me. If I could just avoid being interdicted (twice) it might help, and as for being hit by a missile. I've abandoned refuel & repair (missile damage notwithstanding) at stations which is saving valuable seconds but that does mean I'm now generally scoop-jumping at around 125% heat. The thing is, that 2nd interdiction (the one with the missile) caught me with my throttle at zero desperately trying to avoid an overshoot - I really didn't intend to submit. So Mr ONE HOUR. Tomorrow. 6am. You & Me. I mean to have you even it must be burglarly!

P.S. did I mention I got hit by a frickin' missile?
