Community Event / Creation Buckyball Racing Club presents: The Kessel Run (31.10 - 15.11)

Board update:

This mornings board update sees CMDR Flash Gordon shaving 1:17 off his previous time, not quite catching up with Edelgard von Rheins Asp Explorer.
New runs have been posted by CMDR Edelgard von Rhein in her Cobra "Null Geodesic" and we have the return of CMDR Anuranium in his trusty old T6 "Lasercow", achieving a respectable time of 2:2:2.

No news from the Sidey-front. People have yet to fly their cheap and cheerful ships to glory.

On the Cobra side of things we have CMDR Kliggson achieving another blistering time of 1:46:42, setting the bar very high for everyone (and occupying 1st place in both this and Open Unlimited class).
Coming from the XBOX side of the universe, CMDR xxSTARHOUNDxx ran a very respectable time of 2:16:22, just 7 seconds ahead of new CMDR RadiKyles "A-Ship-Called-Rhonda". Some are wondering if his ship is so named because it was built from reclaimed scrap metal from the Anaconda CMDR Alot crashed at Sag A*, also named "Rhonda". It's supposed to be bad luck to rename a ship, after all.
In temporary last place, we have CMDR Adept Geraden, who achieved a time of 2:45:05. Keep at it, CMDR. We can't have CMDR Kliggson in first place in two classes :)

You mean someone else has the same ship name?
Not to the letter, and not in this race (so don't worry :D) - my ship, Rhonda the 'conda, is somewhat notorious over in the A* Challenge thread... :p

I want to make a Sidewinder entry, I really do... I'm just finding it really hard to justify doing 100+ jumps when I've just done over 4000 in the last three weeks.
Maybe next week... :D

Not to mention that kliggson's Regulation Cobra is faster than any of the Open Cobras! Looks like Buckybear is proving to be one hell of a co-pilot (well, I suppose he does know a thing of two about outpost landings) :p

Do I understand the rules correctly?

Kliggson can win the Regulation Cobra and Open Unlimited classes because he used two different ship types but his Regulation Cobra can't appear on the final Open leaderboard because it isn't his fastest.

If that's the case I'll submit my Regulation Cobra in the Regulation Cobra category only.

1h46m is a very strong time. Alot's route planning script Racer's intuition estimates a perfect time of 1h40m so there isn't much margin for error.

As far as the race is concerned, it consists of three separate events. If you sign up for two events, you are entering with two different ships.
I don't expect anyone to race their Regulation specced Cobra in the Open Unlimited event, thereby potentially handicapping themselves . But if you do, then that's your choice.

I'd love to see you enter Grid Engine (or any other ship you might care to fly) in Open Unlimited with a competitive loadout.

Thanks for the update Stern. I was quite surprised by my reg cobra time too lol. the unregged cobra should have 4 or 5 jumps and 40 speed on the reg one.
its early doors yet so im expecting some good times from other CMDR's
Alecs Bump and grind race was really great prep for this race... ( and also months of chasing alot ) I don't even mind if the outpost pads are obscured now.

Ah okay! Yeah I just saw the video of the fender-bender, lol. Mine is named after my truck! :D (maybe I should've saved it for a Horizons lander...)

Signing in for the Run!

CMDR (in-game) Name. Lerian
Forum Name. Lerian
Class you will be running in (Reg. Sidewinder / Reg. Cobra / Open Unlimited) Reg Sidewinder
Ship type, if in Open Unlimited. N/A
Ship Name. Wesley Crusher

The new version [...] might even work better with that ~35ly jump range of the hauler.

*Crawls out of the molten interior of his ship*

It does. By over five minutes :D
Although it is certainly possible to go way faster. Not trying to complain about those hyperspace loading times.
Maybe those minutes trying to actually land my ship instead of destroying it might matter too.

Eek... Sorry I missed your messages Tuna! I'd been sat in the Galaxy Map for at least an hour checking positions of things for my exploration album... Little did I know that I'd exit the Galaxy Map and instantly get an hour's worth of messages spewed out at once :D

To answer your question: I was getting ready to run, and then finishing off this album took about three hours longer than I'd intended. So, tomorrow night it is :p

Hi!
Please Stern Winter add me to the roster...

CMDR (in-game) Name: Inodoro Pereyra
Forum Name: Onane
Class you will be running in...: Open Unlimited,
Ship type: re-purposed smuggler Asp
Ship Name: Patagonian Brick

I must add that my charting/sightseeing/dry-run (1:45:09) was dry basically because the chair/keyboard interface pressed launch before F10 in Leesti ...

so I don't know if I missed this or not, and if I did, I apologize, it's been a long day, but what about the larger ships?

If I'm not mistaken, some of the stops are outposts right? How would a larger ship prove they've made "stops" ? Pull up to 15m and sit for 30 seconds? I'm wondering because my Ferdy isn't the only thing I think I want to fly in this race. I really want to push my Clipper too.

Welcome, CMDR. That's not a bad time for a dry run. Keep at it.

You might need to compress your Clipper into a Courier before you have any luck docking at the outposts. Sorry, but if it can't dock, it can't race :)

In a stunning turn of events, CMDR Cookiehole surges forward in his humble Hauler, shaving more than 5 minutes off his previous time and taking first place from CMDR Kliggson.
CMDR Cookiehole had to undergo treatment for burn injuries caused by overheating ship internals, but was heard to say "I can still do it faster, I can still shave off some time" before being hurried away to hospital.

CMDR Flash Gordon also manged to improve on his time, overtaking CMDRs Esther Gray and Edelgard von Rhein in their Asp Explorers.

CMDR Tuna Mage logged a respectable 1:55:58 in his Cobra Mk III "Ophiophagus Hannah".

Well done, CMDRs.
