Community Event / Creation Buckyball Racing Club presents: The Kessel Run (31.10 - 15.11)

I forgot to refuel at Chediq and had to employ some aggressive fuel scooping.
Alas I spent the rest of the evening trying to find the best video encoding settings and didn't have time for another run.

I'm sitting outside a cafe in Covent Garden getting odd looks from passers by because I literally have tears of laughter streaming down my face. Dude ... I had no idea how far it was possible to push this whole overheating thing. OK, well, perhaps not quite THAT far, but even so. Does anyone know where I can pick up some asbestos pants before I attempt my next run?

Eek... Sorry I missed your messages Tuna!

No problem :) - I had just finished, but was going to warn about long hyperspace lags - especially on the final run to Jabbah - I reckon a good ten of the jumps at least had 30s or more delay on them (based on a normal jump to jump time of 45s). .... Has anyone else experienced this - was the same on Sunday evening as well.

...vid...

Hahaha, that is some of the most reckless fuel scooping I've ever seen (actually, considering it was terminal, it might be the most - 1st place :p), even for a buckyballer!

- I like it :D

I swear that after the last jump I was going to let it cool down for a bit. The powerplant must have dipped below 50% during the FSD charge.

Good time CookieHole, well raced!
That's quite the fuel scooping technique you got there furrycat ;)
thanks for the update Stern, and good luck to all those racing.

After seeing that video, all of a sudden hitting 120% heat doesn't seem significant at all any more! I have much to learn...

Yes, as long it doesn't stay above 150% for more than one or two jumps you're probably totally fine :D

Pop Quiz:

Ship insurance and instant repairs at dock were introduced in ED for which of the following:

1. Absurd pilots who have scant regard for taking care of their ships
2. Buckyballers
3. Trick question; 1 & 2 above are the same thing.

:D

I have just completed my first Kessel Run.

CMDR Name: <-lightspeed->
Forum Name: superflyguy
Class you will be running in...: Open Unlimited,
Ship type: Cobra MkIII
Ship Name: Glitterstim

knocked out a satisfactory sub 2 hour time; 01:59:00! Save for a total abberation at the last landing (planetary emergency stop), two loops of shame and an interdiction I think I could challenge Alec for top Cobra! Especially is I employ furrycat's wonderful 'aggressive fuel scooping' technique Much fun was had.

thanks very much Stern for organising.

here we are at the finish line

It's the only way to refuel! You should introduce it to your passengers on your next tour!

Well whaddya know, I happened to be in the right place at the right time to catch a photo of Cmdr Raiko docking in order to drop off some passengers during his latest Kessel Run.

Please mind your step as you exit the ship and thank you for flying with Raiko air today.

The Grid Engine has just finished a run without exploding, although it did get the heat up to 316% and the hull down to 19% at one point.

I'll be sending my screenshots as soon as I extract them from the video footage, and I'll be claiming a Regulation Cobra time of 01:45:16.

Whoops, I seem to be making a habit of this... Apologies to CMDR Markzx59, who messaged me on local chat in Jabbah. I was AFK, not ignoring you!

Now that's proper racing.

Speaking of which... I have been home from my little exploration jaunt for a few days now, but it didn't feel right posting until I had something to show for it. Well... I'm back! :D

I figured you were AFK lol. Lucky I didn't have an FSDI ;)

That was my first run, managed 1:59 ish in the Cobra, had a 6 minute detour at Dao Jungu to buy a DSC for my journey back so would have been 1:53 :) Still need to send my pics in, so that is assuming I am working it out right.

Think I will give it a try in my Asp next.

Wednesday morning board update

Today we welcome the lost adventurer, CMDR Alot, returned from long distance exploration and jumping straight into first place, just ahead of CMDR Cookieholes new and improved time.

CMDR Tuna Mage was also able to improve on his time by nearly 13 minutes, putting him clearly in the lead of the Cobras. CMDR Tuna Mage employed a new, experimental heat-resisting paint job. The race adjudicators will have to deliberate on that one.

CMDR Alec Turner was able to shave 5 minutes and change off his previous time. Unfortunately not enough to keep his former 1st place among Cobra pilots. He might have to install those buckets of water permanently in his cockpit.

Finally, CMDR <-lightspeed-> has submitted a respectable time of 1:59:00, just ahead of CMDR Anuranium.

No new entries in the staging area.

The Sidewinders are still anchored firmly to their landing pads. We can only hope for some exciting action here.

The Reg. Cobra class sees CMDR Furrycat outstrip CMDR Kliggson with a scorching time of 1:45:15, nearly 1½ minutes ahead of 2nd place.
This means that CMDR Kliggson has lost his leading position in both Open and Cobra classes. Will he strike back with a vengeance ? Only time will tell.
