Community Event / Creation Buckyball Racing Club presents: The Kessel Run (31.10 - 15.11)

I did that in the Outpost Dash with my Courier. I had it written down that I needed to scoop to a particular bar fullness before jumping so that I'd arrive with exactly enough fuel to plot the next system in one jump.

The margin for error was pretty small and it got painful to manage under race conditions. That's one of the reasons I don't like the Hauler; the other being that it looks, sounds and handles like the in spaaaace version of the type of joyless cheap car that people who think that cars are for getting from A to B would buy. If you have exactly no fuel, as demonstrated in Alot's screenshot above, you can jump Far. If you have any fuel at all, you cannot.
Really?! I'm surprised the Courier needed under-fueled jumps in the Outpost Dash, I thought it could comfortably manage more than 21Ly range... I guess maybe you had it weighed down with silly things like shields :D

As for the Hauler... That's actually one of the things I love about it. It's cheap as chips (and, as you say, feels like it), and has no place being near races, let alone winning them... Yet here it is :D

Sorry, I was drinking last night. It wasn't the Outpost Dash but Border Hopping, where there was a leg which could be done in two jumps iff less than fully fueled.

The Outpost Dash had no shields, not that it mattered given that you can't crash if the pads are all blocked. Border Hopping couldn't make the jump without shields so keeping them was no cost.

Aha, that makes sense!

As for ship vs pilot... Cookiehole's Hauler is in second! And take a look at BBR6, it was hardly just me Hauling at the top of the board there :p

Here you are.
And cookiehole, to be fair.. And I'm on the last leg of this crazy "beginners" sidewinder run. After that, I hope to also put up a competitive time (although, not likely to be a winning time) in the hauler.

Edit: sorry for repeating...had started the reply earlier, but as mentioned...in mid run. :)

Okey-dokey. I need to process the screenshots and send them to our illustrious leader, but these tired eyes have completed a Reg. Sidewinder run in 2:55:05. Will need to take it easy on the way back to Leesti...

Screenshots sent...now if real life kindly stops me, I hope I can try another run, Cobra again or even that Ford Trans*ehm*, I mean Hauler everyone talks about :p...but I definitely need to do something for my lacking SC skills, I'm still learning to walk that fine line dividing skillful planet braking from unexpected attempts at lithobraking :D

We have reached that stage? Reminds me of BBR6. Sounds like manual route plotting. Sounds like work. I don't like work. But I want at least to see the 'Explodes on Contact' in front of me. Hm...
I need Alot more Cookies.
There are only a couple of legs I've found where it's useful, I haven't bothered with it apart from that.
One of those places in particular is very tricky to pull off - the Hauler's fuel tank has to be between 45% and 49% full... (Guess where that screenshot was taken!)

Thursday board update:

Just a few updates since yesterday, but important updates...

In Open Unlimited, CMDR Alot yet again manages to cement his seeming invincibility by shaving off 2 minutes of his already spectacular time, reaching that theoretical optimum of 82 minutes.

No new CMDRs have been foolhardy brave enough to join the races in Open Unlimited.

We finally have a racing Regulation Sidewinder - CMDR JAK flew his ship to glory and blasted into 1st place in his "The Micro Enigma". Well done, CMDR.
How long will he be able to sit in lone majesty in 1st place ? Will he win by default ? Surely, some intrepid CMDR will step forward and pick up the gauntlet.

In Regulation Cobra Mk III, new CMDR Aken B set an excellent time of 1:57:12 in his "Sorry Excuse".
No excuse needed, as this surely will rattle the other competitors into improving their times.

I guess it says something about Cmdr Alot that I'm actually slightly disappointed he ONLY managed to achieve the theoretical optimum. I was expecting a minute under the theoretical optimum at the very least. :D

He must be tired after his 65K trip. ;)

Subscribing to this thread as I might take part.
this looks promising AS HELL.
I might do it in a Courier or Imperial Eagle.

There is still a week and a half to go ;) (Although I'm away from this afternoon until Sunday evening...)

That I'm struggling to argue with... Still somewhat getting used to the fact that stations exist. :p

yeah!!! that's more like the alot I know ;) touché me up.

EDIT:- ok so just did another run in the asp.. im only just under 86 minutes..
I think I can shave some more off. I managed to get a capture of it and I can see where I need to improve.

Soooo, That Went Well

"What could possibly go wrong", I asked...
Well none of this stuff was in the plan:

Un-necessary Fuel scooping
Not Enough Fuel Scooping
Getting Lost in Space
Multiple Interdictions
1 Unexpected Rapid Disassembly Event
Planetary Approaches way too fast, Leading to "The Loop of Shame"
Station Approaches way too fast leading to Unintended Lithobraking

Having said all that this racing lark is jolly good fun :) and I shall, of course, be having another go.

I would argue that the "loop of shame" is (in most cases) actually faster than a normal approach.

At least that's what I always do. (Might have to change that for future trading, my new T9 doesn't exactly feel nimble)
