Strewth cobbers!

What a flight. I did the last 8kLy in about 11.5 Goon Shows. Not great time, but I am only in a Cobra after all.

Nice! That takes some doing!

I'll take a Sidewinder out there just as soon as I can dock it in my Anaconda... :D

FSD charging time: 15 seconds
Countdown to jump: 5 seconds
Witchspace travel: 10-15 seconds*
Arrival, FSD cooldown and scooping: 10s (ideally)
That makes an ideal jump time of 40-45s
pretty much what I was doing.. averaged 13 secs in witchspace. so 43 ish

mind you 740 1 second differences is 12 minutes! but that's only if you didn't need to hang about to scoop.

Congratulations! I cant see a low 20ly jumper doing it in one sitting , itd be very gruelling. someones bound to be crazy enough to do it.
I have had some long times spent in Witchspace - probably up to a minute or so.
whoah.. a minute. I had a few is it still working moments.. but nothing that long I think.. maybe 4 or 5 times 30 secs.

Hi Guys - wow what a weekend of racing! :D

Congrats to everyone who has made it so far, and strength to those still on the way :)

It was a pleasure chatting to many of the CMDR's on the way yesterday, and a bonus to get to Sag A within a few minutes of CMDR Alot last night :)

My view of our screenie of us in front of the big hole here:

Tuna and Alot at Sag A.jpg

According to my log it took about 1048 jumps in my Cobra to get there (I say 'about' because the last 1000 LY got a bit confusing and blurry ;), so actual jumps there is my best guess :)) I'm quite proud of the fact that I managed to avoid any crashes, and only had 1 minor overheat incident (again in the last 1000k), but no major damage, so still at 100%

A HUGE thanks to Electric Z for organising again, for chatting with me along the way, and my hat off to all you great CMDRs taking on this challenge - good stuff :)

ZZZZZz.... huh, what? What time is it? Oh. Yeah. Time to post the results? OK... Lemme read the board.

(shuffles toward the comm station muttering something about caffeine...)

PRO TIP, (while we wait for the big board) ;)

For those of you that take home a spare screen from work, and plug it into your gaming laptop for the first time, so you can have Elite and your exploration logbok on two screens side by side, for your epic run to Sag A*, here's what you should do:

When you jump out of the Sol system, do not click on something on you log book on the other screen. This is bacause you are an idiot and will forget to click back on your elite screen before you get out of hyperspace. This will result in you panicking that your controls are not working, while you ship sails directly into the sun on your very first jump.

You will be forced to retun back to Galileo, and to all your supporters that cheered you off on your epic trip (who have now retired to the Galieo Bar on the viewing deck) will have to say something like "I forgot the canned pilchard lunch for the trip, just ignore the scorchmarks on my hull... nothing to see here!"

Just a tip...use it, don't use it :D

it's worse when you are several thousand LY from Sol (blush)

Mission completed in short of 2 days. I've done.

(To Frontier: Please do some afford for calculation hell, it was not possible for me to plot the last 761LY to Sagittarius A* in reasonable time, which means less than 10 minutes, in one piece. I had to split it in 300LY chops to even get there)

'Cause we got a little ol' convoy rockin' through the night! We got a little ol' convoy, ain't she a beautiful sight?

Wow.

What else can be said? A dozen ships running hell-bent for Sag A*. We didn't intend to turn it into a live event, but that's what happened. And I gotta tell ya I loved every last jump of it. Well, except the Thaileia sector. The entire Thaileia sector can kiss my Asp. Chatting with the lot of you really helped the light years sail by. And Radio Sidewinder. This was the first opportunity I've had to listen to it at length. It's great stuff. All pilots should have a preset in their cockpit for it.

But onto the racing news!

First and foremost, the king is dead. Long live the king! CMDR Anuranium's record-breaking run that kicked off this whole debacle has now since been broken by two-time Buckyball Champion CMDR Alot in his Asp Big Bird. In spite of the intense interference to navigation systems found at the galactic core (which I now call "GalMap Sadness"), Alot managed to knock off an entire hour from Anuranium's time, taking the top time for the race as well as top time for the Asp by default. CMDR Anuranium said from the start if he were bested he'd do it again, and there's every indication that he's going to do it. Bucky is standing by to take down his new time when he makes his third run to Sag A*.

Alot's record time may actually provide some small comfort, though, to CMDR Marlon Blake in The Seven, as the second Anaconda in the Run, pulled into Sag A* a mere 5 minutes behind the Gjallarhorn's time.

Anuranium, not one to sit idle, decided to set a record in another class while he was waiting for the rest of us to take on the Gjallarhorn, taking his trusty Lakon Type-6 Lasercowon a leisurely stroll to Sag A* to come in 5th, edging out my own Asp Shipwrecked and Comatose by two freakin' minutes to put me in 6th. I stopped along the way to take some selfies. "What harm could it cause? It's just a couple of minutes..."

Not too far behind the Shipwrecked and Comatose, CMDR Harain's Asp Intrepid pulled into Sag A*, with fellow newcomer CMDR Ceska Zbrojobka sailing in behind in his Lakon Type-6 Hakudo Maru. Congratulations to both, and CMDR Blake as well for picking BBRA* as your choice to complete your very first Buckyball Run! :D

Finally, CMDR Tuna Mage joined us at Sag A* but damage to his flight recorder possibly from a spilled beverage has prevented us from reading his start time. The Ophiophagus Hannah's time and position will be updated when possible.

UPDATE: Bucky, using specially formulated algorithms for computing bar tabs aboard the Shotgun Shine was able to decypher Tuna Mage's flight recorder. His Cobra has come in with a split-day time of 31 hours, 3 minutes and 20 seconds, just squeaking by FoxTwo by a hair to take the top Cobra slot. Well done, Tuna Mage! And next time try not to spill your beer while flying. You're better than that. ;)

Meanwhile, CMDR's Niamhea and Cheron continue their treks in the Meretseger and Cleopatra as you read this, and CMDR Masoboshi in the Asp Explorer continues his journey along with newcomers M3tzg3r in the Wayward Serpent and K. Cookson in the Concrete Cow, the first Lakon Type-9 to enter the BBRA*. If it's not too late, Cookson, you got a bunch of CMDRs hanging around Sag A* looking for an afterparty. Load up on drinks and food before you head out, and you'll be everybody's hero. :D

Welcome also to CMDRs Khol and Mad Doctor X who have touched their toes in the staging area... We're all watching to see what happens next. ;)

Before I end today's summary, I'd just like to say again what a blast it was zooming out to Sag A* with everybody who decided to race today. Gruelling as it was, it's been a long time since I've had as entertaining and rewarding gaming experience as this. The regular style BBR will return next time, but having a bunch of people racing at once was a blast. BBR will always remain asynchronous, race when you want, but BBR7 and now BBRA* have jacked up the fun factor exponentially because of the personalities involved.

Even if most of you do kick my butt time and time again. :p

EDIT: Arrrg! Just saw Masoboshi finished as I saved this. I'll have to put your time on tomorrow's update, but congratulations for making it all the way out! Hang out with us for a bit out here. Cookson's bringing snacks. :D

this was amazing, and in 2 weeks I'll go again this time with better jump range, 31.8 is just too slow

huge fun, props to all and thx ElectricZ =)

Well done to all of you.

I will be having a go myself, but not for at least a week or two. It'll probably take me all that time to work out which ship I want to use: Cobra, Type 6 or Asp...

For the record I screwed up when I PMed ElectricZ. My time was actually 14h4m4s (one hour more).

That still leaves me in 3rd place, but only just!

When I get back, I'll run this again in my Vulture. I shudder to think how long that will take with only a 20 LY range with everything stripped.

If I had tried to do this in one shot, my time would have been 23 hours or so (says my video clip times). But yeah I decided to do it on weekdays, having only 4 hours at most per day, to travel to Sag A* :(

Well, I've recently taken a liking to Exploring - so why not kick it off with a small stroll over to that little old Black Hole? Count me in!

CMDR: Takaru Minari
Ship Name: Dawnbringer
Ship Type: Asp Explorer

One Caveat: If I make it, put me on the Unofficial Leaderboards, given that I'm flying in Solo and started at Abraham Lincoln instead of Galileo.

Edit: Just realised that apparently the screenshot of the starting time and place didn't get saved. Kinda awkward to notice some 7.8k light years from Sol. So much for waiting for a nice 15:30:00 time to start.

Esvandiary: Congratulations! That is a spectacular time!

Also congrats to everybody who has finished, this is truly spectacular. You guys are truly awesome sharing hints and tips, especially regarding plotting near the core.

Last but not least:

Entry for Run #3:
CMDR: Anuranium
Ship: Anaconda (modificus maximus)
Ship name: Gjallarhorn

This is Awesome idea. It's a bit late for me. I 've been there and got the screenshot. The only thing I did not like about the whole trip was the fact route planner does not work in the galactic core. I took about 15 days there and back scanning as I go. I may try to do this someday. Maybe in an Imperial courier.
