Elite / Frontier BUFFET: New version coming soon.

I was thinking about improving the AI in FFE. The AI ships are pretty basic in FFE, even though they can have a full equipment list, most of the items do not get used. For example, if an AI ship has a hull auto-repair system, it doesn't work. What if I made it so it does actually work? If an AI ship has the hull auto-repair system, increase the hull value in memory, or if it has an escape pod, spawn the escape pod when the ship is destroyed.

In response to DraQ: The ship manipulator in BUFFET is an editor for the ships, you can basically change the ships to what you want, and even change the behaviour of them. I am working on the ship replacement routines, which is a way of modding the ships in FFE to what specification you like.

I would definitely like to see that implemented. Combat would become a whole new ball-game :)

mb4 prospecting table (change type, class, refresh) ?
additionally, do you know this strange behavior "loadet 564 tons of minerals" but when you check the mining equipment list only 4t are loadet (sometimes loadet 0 tons of, but adds 1 in the list), can that be fixed, i expect some division, but i don't know. but mining would have much more sense if....

I've not really done any mining for a long time, but I will have a look at it.

Whertz, will you be willing to upload a copy of your new version of Buffet to Space Sim Central when it's completed?

I will be posting links to betas here first, to get feedback and bug reports. I've changed the code that much, that I'm sure I'll be inundated with bug reports. :D If someone else wants to they can upload it to wherever they want.

Hurry. Hurry!!

Okay, okay! I just keep finding out new things and think to myself, that would be a good hack. But I have to put a stop to it and just clean everything up for a release.
Yeah, I think so :)
Seriously, there's no reason to stop development after a release. It just gives us all something to get our teeth into, spotting bugs etc.

Hurry. Hurry!!

I understand Steve, but give him time, he will release it when he is ready. Does this sound familiar anybody? I guess, anything connected to Elite seems to be a waiting game these days.

Look on the bright side, at least we have plenty of practice at waiting! :D

I'm hoping to get a release out in the next two weeks, because after that I won't have as much time to work on BUFFET.

I'm going to tidy up everything that I have now and if I have time I will add the ship replacement routine I was talking about. I've already got that sorted, it's just a matter of writing a routine to parse some sort of script to tell the program what ship is to be replaced by what ship and spec. The most time consuming part now is polishing up the ship manipulator and getting everything working as I want it to.

The ship manipulator is a set of functions for tweaking the ship objects in the game. It shows a list of every ship currently in your system and there are different commands you can perform on them. For example, you can make any ship in the game hostile towards any other ship in the game. It's fun making the police or pirates fight each other, or getting a nearby ship to help you out when you're being attacked.

I'll be working on BUFFET a lot over the next few days as I have some free time, so I should be able to get quite a lot done. I'll keep you guys posted on any news...

Here's a little something to whet your appetite: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z-U11BxzFR8 Make sure you watch it full screen because it's a little squashed at the default youtube size.

I went ahead with the A.I. ship editor and replacement feature. This is the last of the new features, I just need to write a save/load function so you can save the list of replacements and fix a couple of minor bugs.

I need a break, my head feels burnt out... I'm dreaming about FFE at night.

Aargh, Super Police! That's all we need

Seriously, this is looking very good. Lots of scope for changing stuff, from what I can see...

Yes, you can set up conditions for replacing a ship. For example, a Viper craft that is hostile to you can be replaced, or even just the spec of the ship can be changed to make the game a little/lot harder. You can also specify the chance that it will be replaced, like 100% will always make it change, 50% chance or 10% chance would make the replacement rare. Also, multiple replacements can be added, and one will be picked at random, so users on the forum here can post their ship replacement data, and maybe we could merge it into one big file.

Hi to all! I am new here.. I really wanted to try out BUFFET but it seemed to be not working in my game.:(

Whenever I run buffet.exe, a message always appears which says "Warning glffe exited". I installed the ffe shareware version, then installed glffe Nic's Mod.

Could someone please help me? I really want to try BUFFET out. Thanks!

Though I haven't tried it, I think that this software is great. :):)

Not only is this fascinating to hear what could be achieved with FFE, JJFFE & FFE3D. It opens up a whole new range of possibilities for us fans.

When it comes to modding the .exe, remember this forum is owned by the company/people who wrote it in the first place. So, If Frontier has no objections to fans modding the .exe file and other parts and they could point you guys in the right direction to where the info is stored etc. it could make things a bit easier for you when it comes to programming.

Maybe if they don't object, a thread on the subject could be a good idea?

What do you guys think at Frontier?

Finding out about this :) I'll let you know once I know!

Hi Liqullia
Any more info on this at all?
