Bug Fixes & Other Necessary Changes/Updates Meta-Wishlist

I mean, Panthera leo leo is the northern lion, and the Asian population is the closest living relative of the Barbary lion, THE type for lions.

Then again, we have separate Bengals and Siberians, when those are known to be diversity extremes of the same subspecies, whose range is now broken.

For the latter, isn't there still some debate of whether or not the Siberian and Bengal tigers are different subspecies?

Their split happened more recently than the most recent common ancestor of living humans. There is a chance that 2 random humans are genetically more distinct than Bengal and Amur tigers. Plus, their range used to be continuous, and fragmentation is recent; tigers would gradually become larger and hairier as you went north.

This, pretty much. Everything is gradual in nature, and when it doesn't seem like it, it is because something was lost.

And then there is the issue of traditions and subjective opinions; at the end of the day it is just a matter of consensus.

Zoos usually still stick to the "old" subspecies, so it makes sense for PZ to do the same.

And had the Bengal been a Sumatran instead then we would have had each of the two "new" subspecies represented. Just not under the new names but that could be mentioned in the zoopedia perhaps.

Yeah, a single Bengal tiger would had been enough.
Bengal tiger should never have been in the game at all. Outside of India itself there are hardly any pure Bengal tigers, most have been historically hybridised between Bengal and Siberians. There are more pure Siberian/Amur tigers in captivity, but the Sumatran is the jungle tiger we should have received. It's far more common in captivity than the Bengal, even taking India into consideration, and a far greater emphasis is placed on its conservation than any other tiger subspecies/subpopulation.

As a zoologist, the concept of "pure" just tells me that people don't know how evolution and ecology works, and are stuck on a 19th century framework of purity preservation that just doesn't work.

But there is plenty of that noise around zoo aficionados, and here we are.

Well that's just kind of rude and presumptuous.

So you agree with @NZFanatic point, that the bengal tiger shouldn't have been in the game?

Au contraire, I do believe the Bengal tiger should had been the only one in the game. If anything, call it "mainland tiger", and stop the nonsensical pedigree-based elitism.

No seriously, I don't know how you could read my post as that.

In my mind the ideal would be "mainland tiger" and "sumtran tiger", to cover everything.

Honestly, I'd prefered to have gotten a single tiger, and instead gotten a leopard or the jaguar in vanilla for our 4th Panthera, but it has been 3 and a half years and it is fruitless to delve on that. 😅

(Leopards, on the other hand, do have a deep split between African and Asian subspecies and they are the one where having 2 wouldn't hurt too much). 🤭

Necessary
  • Make it remember that I pressed to show my favorite(ones that I gave that little hearts), so that I don't have to press 'show favorites' every time.
  • Make it remember that I pressed 'hide blueprints' in a save, so that I don't have to press 'hide blueprint' every time I open my save to build something.

Not that necessary...?
  • When selecting multiple non-grid items, allow as to adjust the 'center' of that selection. selecting two wooden beams and their 'center' of multi-axis movement being far off from those two beams gets me slightly irritated.
  • I'd like to have some kind of a 'filter bookmark', so that I don't have to activate multiple filters individually when I want a certain types of items.
