Can Elite Dangerous treat ALL analog HOTAS transducers as ANALOG in the Galaxy Map, System Map, and on-foot instead of digital?

FDev -

This is a (hopefully better) re-articulation of the thread below:

Unless I am missing something, I can not get Elite Dangerous (on the PC +/- VR) to treat ALL the analog inputs as analog bindings for the Galaxy Map, System Map, and on-foot (EDO). They will only act as digital inputs with a constant speed when deflected 1/2 way from deadzone. The throttle, yaw, roll, pitch etc work fine during flight but nowhere else. I have a gamepad and it works perfectly/consistently everywhere. A difference I noted is that with the T.Flight HOTAS X that all analog inputs show as "Joy +RZ" or "Joy -RZ", etc. The gamepad shows an icon like "Ls" or "Rs" along with a direction indicator - and it IS treated as analog. This makes navigating the GM, SM, and on-foot very nice indeed. The gamepad bindings work out-of-the-box, too. I can sneak up on systems in any axis using the gamepad... I can walk slowly in onfoot in any direction,e tc, but not with a HOTAS because it's one speed only. Not good. What am I missing?

Would it be possible for Fdev to make using a HOTAS more precise in areas other than just flight? I think that since the HOTAS works at all in GM, SM, and on-foot.. shouldn't it work properly?

Thank you.

Also - a VR virtual keyboard within ED (even if it were the Oculus built-in VR keyboard) would be a MASSIVE QOL improvement. :p

just to make sure, you have bound the analogue axis to the analogue inputs, as you have both analogue input bindings and digital input bindings!

So to take an example,
Roll, the analogue input bindings is called roll axis. this is one settings that covers both analogue roll left and right, with an optional sub-settings to invert the axis.
Then you have the digital setting, Roll Left and Roll Right, and you can bind the analogue axis to these settings too, but now you have digital input instead of analogue.

find the settings for when you use the game pad, that controls the desired function and look at what is used, and compare it to your joystick setting.

Ah hah!!! Thanks to your suggestion/discussion here I FOUND IT!!! it's a very subtle thing (at least for me). Consistent and complete descriptions for what the bindings actually do and whether they are analog or not would sure help us noobs. I was able to get the HOTAS to operate the way I expected it to.

Thanks again! stay safe.
