I will try to create nice flowchart this weekend for all confused. I actually wanted to do infograms for lot of things in ED so why not start with this.

Ok, and at what point do you get sent to prison and how do you get out?

When your ship gets killed with wanted status, you get sent to prison. There, you are forced to pay your bounty off fully - 5k for killing NPCs (might change), and formula applied for player killing (multi millions). Paying for bounty works same way as rebuy - if you lack money, you go back to Sidey.

When leaving Detention Center, you are put in solo mode locally to avoid griefing.

That's pretty much it.

If you cant do the time -------> dont do the crime
Unfortunately there are parts of the game, such as efficient Background Galaxy Simulation manipulation, perhaps for a Player Minor Faction, that often require committing some sort of crime. Sure, you can choose not to, but that's then either locking yourself out of part of the game, or at least restricting the actions you can take to achieve desired goals.

Help me out here....what's IF stand for? Intergalactic.....ffffffffffffffbroker.

The point still stands, you should only do illegal actions if you are willing to put up with the consequences (of which there will now be numerous ways to mitigate.) That is part of the challenge. Quick and difficult or slow and easy.. Those are the options.

Who said manipulating an entire system with a population of billions should be inherently easy and efficient?

If you want an easy system to manipulate, go to some podunk outer-rim anarchy system with a 14k pop.

I think the main problem and source of salt is that IMO the punishment for the really low end stuff is at present [3.0 Beta] OTT. It'll be a QoL issue that could drive people out of the game :(

"at present" is what - 2.4, beta 2, beta 3, 3.0? Problem is, nobody but FD knows yet how this will look once 3.0 goes live. The state of beta 3 definitely wasn't what will go into the live game, beta 2 still had a major bug in the bounty clearing at the IF. And nobody, including FD, knows yet what kind of adjustments will be done during the weeks after 3.0 went live.

So, you (ok, not you personally) probaby still could blow up enemy planetary generators from an SRV that you transported out there in a Cutter, if you don't mind that Cutter becoming wanted, and clear it (unless you get killed first) by throwing a few thousand Cr. at some IF. Nevertheless, it might be overall cheaper to use a Sidey for that job, even if you do get blown up before you clear the planet and have to jump back from some detention facility to claim your payment.

BGS isn't really there to be manipulated to begin with. That's why lot of C&P changes are against it.

It is to be manipulated...but the devs have put some pain into doing it. If you are killing police to change political situations...there needs to be some pain to those doing that.

BGS is there to be manipulated. Otherwise, what's the point?

But as it is currently, manipulating the BGS through massive killing sprees is too easy, or rather has too little consequences. You're still free to kill as many police as you want, but you should use a dedicated ship for that.
