Can I run two commanders in Steam?

I notice ED is currently on sale on Steam, and I'd love a second commander, but I'm wondering how Steam would manage the dual commander log ins, given the first instance of the game is already "in my library".

Anyone?

Bro some people have 6 commanders. They buy a new one every time there's a commander bundle on sale.
I don't personally so I don't know how it works. Presumably if you have the ability to run multiple steam accounts from the same PC then why not?

Steam doesn't care, you're only going to have 1 install anyway. Your FDev accounts are different, so when you get the loading screen, logout and switch to whatever account you want. I just started a 2nd one so that I could have an explorer CMDR and a BGS one.

Steam can handle it just fine. You just need a separate launcher file for each CMDR...

You can use EDLaunchPad to Locate, Create, Manage, and Launch the launchers for your multiple accounts. ...and you only need a single icon on your desktop.

I have two CMDR's (CMDR A, CMDR B), and two software installs (Steam for my Samsung Odyssey, and Oculus for my Rift), for a total of 4 options (launchers). I wrote EDLaunchPad to help me easily maintain all 4 options:

CMDR A (Steam)
CMDR B (Steam)
CMDR A (Oculus)
CMDR B (Oculus)

How this can work:

Option 1: Log out and log in from one launcher every time. You can if you want but this is suboptimal.

Option 2: Go into your steam folder and copy the launcher executable to a different filename. ctrlc+v. It seems that how the launcher itself tells its a unique install is via the launchers filename.. so you can log in to a different account for every different copy of launch.exe. You can add this shortcut back into steam if you want. I'm not sure if it tracks the time though.. damn should know this.

Do I have to have different email accounts for each FDev account?

However the OP asked if he could run two Steam accounts, and I am puzzled by that as well. Steam will not even let me buy another ED for myself, because I already have it. So how could I run two Steam accounts?

ps, That is the best sale price I've seen for ED. Anyone thinking of getting a another account should jump in now.

Yep, precisely why I'm asking. If there's a way of making it work, I'm definitely up for another commander.

This is frustrating - I just can't figure out how to get Steam to allow me to purchase another copy of the game.

If anyone has two or more commanders successfully running under Steam, could you let me in on the secret?
