Can someone please explain the new chat interface to me?

I can sort of bumble around it but it seems like the old shortcuts are gone/missing, a quick reply to someone (hit return and tab through list of groups/individuals to reply to) is very awkward and button-intensive, and I cannot get rid of the notification number which is on 9+ no matter what I do.

I assume I'm missing something obvious because I don't see the forums spammed with people moaning about the new chat interface.

You can tab channels or put them all into the one stream. The options at far right allow you full control over the chat panel.

I was able to do system chat last night yet today it reports I'm not currently subscribed to any channels in this group. So not sure how that works at the moment, however.

The new comms panel is still a mess tbh, it was the same in beta. It's clunky compared to what we used to have which was responsive and streamlined, now chatting to other people feels like a chore. Having to select to type after each message you send (even if you keep the panel focused) is daft and if you forget and start typing it defaults to ship controls with predicable results. I'm not a fan of the socail tab being 3rd either, having to tab past the inbox which is rarely used moment to moment to form a wing or talk to someone specific is an annoyance. Scrolling back takes forever now too, and sometimes the entire chat history locks up.

Also, has anyone seen player chat popping up even though you're in Solo? I could have sworn I was in Solo last night in Shinrarta and I saw a bunch of chatter.

Ah okay, so it's working as intended, they just intended it to take longer, require more clicks and have removed some old functionality that I've used by default for nearly five years.
Thanks FDev!

Pretty sure the 9+ messages notification last night was a bug, I haven't replicated that problem today.

You can even key in /help to get all the commands.
I missed the reminder for that because I've hidden the system channel, so thanks.
/r /w /l makes the chat interface somewhat usable again; Tabbing between previous recipients and channels is something I'm really going to miss though. That was all I needed before and it was easy, quick, and intuitive.

I gave up on it in beta. I made a post.. no one was particularly helpful and all insisted it was great.. good job i have no friends lol
