Modes Can we get more players into Open Play?

Have you looked in a mirror lately? :3 #Sass

Yup, and it reminded me to check my flies when I leave the loo in future. Other than that I scored it 10/10.

Srs bsns I approach a serious debate objectively, but the moment any reasonable suggestion is poo-poohed "because blaze my own trail" but can't substantiate that with why, it's #sassoclock

Anyway. I heard something about debating the post, not the poster? Report yourself immediately ;)

The only issue I have with the different modes right now is BGS. You could have enemies from another power/faction undermine you in solo and you can't do anything about it. Everything else is up to the player but the BGS is very annoying. I think they should look into it. Again please stay your pitchforks and realize that this is just a small human's opinion about an in-game mechanic.

Just to say, it works both ways... ;)

If you are in solo, or a PG, you don't see your opponents (unless they are in the same PG) either. Yes, FD would potentially like players to 'shoot each other in the face' over power play, but they have very much made all BGS activities to be about moving PvE stuff around. Not only that, but they've made it to all intents and purposes impossible to have a 'conflict' resolved by purely PvP activities due to instancing. At any given time, there are probably players in open you don't see working against (or with) you either.

There's nothing to stop players getting together in a group or in open and taking opposing sides, which as I understand it would be the most likely way that you could guarantee instancing together.

Hey guys,
I noticed that the Elite playerbase is not very large compared to most "mainstream" games (people are missing out!) and it would be nice to get more people to play in open. Here is my question: Whay mode do you play in? What are your reasons for playing in that mode? If you decided to venture into open, What changes would you like to see to make your gametime more enjoyable?

I always play in open myself. Reason behind my decision? I enjoy human contact regardless if its friendly or hostile! It's what makes this game so enjoyable and challenging. Sure you can be in solo mode and have 1,000,000.000 credits and a A rated cutter, but what is the fun in that? NPC's are really no challenge. Even the Thargoids pose no "great" threat.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Regards

The Running Man

I always play solo now.

Reasons:
I in general do not enjoy socializing. It gives me headaches.
I used to play mostly in Open, but even then I was always a soloist and I never initiated attacks on other players.
I stopped playing in Open because I can't compete with multiplayer wings, multiplayer crewed ships and overengineered PvP ships and the upcoming Squadrons.
I refuse to be forced into an engineering arms race just to be on equal footing with people who are into PvP.

Open is for people who: A - like combat; B - like outsmarting people who like combat; C - like the challenge of open and have the time for dealing with it.
Everybody else stays out.

No it isn't.

There are plenty of non-pew oriented players that like being there for the sheer sense of naturalism and risk.

Not all players get off on watching their credit counter go up with sterile impunity.

Honestly, the whole hysteria gets overblown here.

And it's the people who are in open who are asking for more people to come back to open, most have tried it, decided not for me for whatever reason and prefer the tranquility of other modes (perhaps)

if someone dosnt want that? - his/hers choice
but they miss the best

PS.
i always carry some tons of beer in case i been interdicted by the Code
i would feel honored to be robed (never fly without cargo)

Exactly my thoughts. What would happen if Open was the only mode available?

Then lots of folks would want refunds. As the game was funded on Kickstarter with the current mode system as a selling point.
It has also been sold ever since with the current mode system as a selling point.

If Open had been the only choice from the start, I doubt it would have been funded (As all other Elite titles were Single player games, few of the players would have funded an Open only version of the game).

I personally only bought it in beta due to the mode system and having a choice - so I wouldn't have bought it if it had been open only.

So why do we keep getting PvP'ers on the forums demanding they have more fish in their barrel?

This thread is an example of that.

These pretty much sum it all up for me

PVP favors time over pilot skills. Pre-engineers PVP was absolutely better.

I don't like, nor need to play a computer game with other real people. I play computer games to get away from real people and just have fun. I have no need to be someone else's 'game content' thank you. :)

I usually play in a private group simply because I have no interest in interacting with people I cannot trust. The risk is simply not worth the reward IMO.

What it is an example of is one man putting forward an enthusiastic and well meant question,

No, it's not.

Someone who has been an active forum member for over a year (8/6/2016 join date) knows full well this topic is reposted on these boards weekly and the answers to go with it.

Asking a question, when you know the answer (as the answer has been the same for 3 years) isn't "well meant", it's done to get a rise out of people.

and hysterical babies going from 0 to supertriggered at the sight of the word "open".

So, you've no real answer to the fact I'm right and resort to name calling - troll much?

I see no demands here and no reference to fish. Get over yourself, sweetheart :)

What you need to "get over", is that you didn't answer my question.

If you have plenty of none PvP players in open, as you said. Then why do PvP'ers keep trying to get those of us not interested to join open?
(And we all know the answer to this, as it's been on these boards again and again for 3 years. You're not brave enough to shoot each other and risk your pew pew ships, you want fish to shoot in your barrel)

Exactly. I'm one of these people. I was dying for a good space game and was hoping one would come along, but with the new world of gaming and being on servers I just figured this would be yet another version of World of Warspace, but then when I heard there was Solo mode, I was all over it and couldn't wait for it to finally come out.

Like many here, I don't want to interact with other people, however, sometimes if I do, I'll go into Mobius if I really feel like seeing other humans, but I don't actually interact with them, nor do I care to fight other players. I'm good with just the NPC's...

Sounds like you got triggered.

Oh wow. Delusions of grandeur because you have been a forum member for a year. That is...possibly the saddest thing I've heard.

OP had good intentions. Prove otherwise or your point is moot.

Or just accept you overreact when you see someone actually being nice about Open.

Yup, that's how it works mate :)
