Modes Can we get more players into Open Play?

you like the status quo where PP is hardly used except to acquire modules?

That's an assumption.

Whats the point in having this feature exactly, just so we can say that everyone have equal influence in it?

The feature was introduced for all players and, according to what Sandro said in the most recent stream, offers consensual PvP.

Ok, and how does it work for everyone? It doesnt.

If you are suggesting that is it not working because players engaging in it don't require to be directly opposable (in Open) then I'd counter with - working as implemented (i.e. implemented in all modes and all players can affect it).

It would seem, from what some players have said, that to "work" for players that prefer PvP, a feature must be unavailable to those not in Open - in which case it would still not work for everyone.

I am suggesting something that will benefit everyone, PVP has meaning - less ganks, you guys can join open (because less ganks), BGS is still influenced by all the modes.. so whats is the issue?

Removing access to an existing game feature by gating it to Open only (given that there's no requirement to engage in direct PvP in this game) is not suggestive of a feature that will benefit everyone - as it removes it from some players (especially those that cannot play in Open).

I doubt many PG/SOLO players even know what PP is.

Then why are there complaints about PowerPlay being affected by all players then?

My complaint is that anyone who engages in PP in open has to the option to hide in solo and continue their work from there when things fo sour for them in open. That's the underline issue with any multiplayer content.

Works fine for the people that paid for it, whereas your suggestion only benefits you and not everyone as you state.

If open players still think that solo/pg players don't play open because of ganking, nothing had been learned in any of these threads

I dont know why PG/solo players dont play in open, the thing is I DON'T CARE, I have nothing against them or their modes of play.

My only issue is the ability to affect common elements from within the private modes. My issue is not the people who play there.

I doubt you've looked at "The Wall of Information" or you'd not have made such a daft comment, due to this thread being quoted/linked on it.

You may also want to double check your arguments, as one of the poor excuses PvP'ers use to attack the mode system in other threads is how people are undermining in PP from Solo/PGs and cannot be stopped by PvP. Which is somewhat contrary to your statement.

How can they be stopped in direct PvP when they are not undermining in OPEN?

I dont care for indirect pvp which is just another word for PG PVE grind. We already have enough of PVE grind in open, I dont need more context for it.

must admit engineers has tipped pvp over the edge. If engineers would only engineer shields / engines and not weapons

That's a result of the feature being available to every player, not just those in Open.

Just because players don't play in the same instance does not mean that it is not multi-player....

.... and the single shared galaxy state which is affected and experienced by all players, regardless of game mode or platform, is the backbone of the game - PowerPlay, CGs, Factions, etc. are all part of the single shared galaxy state.

Restrict all engineering to Solo and we'll give you PP. Fair trade to me

Restricting Engineering to Solo would be no real hardship - as, anecdotally, at least some players that prefer PvP will play in one or more of the other game modes when PvEing (i.e. gathering mats / data for Engineering) - so that's not really a fair trade (acknowledging that it was somewhat tongue-in-cheek ;) ).

I undsrstand thats the inteded design, otherwise there would be no discussion.

With the current design in place PP being a multiplayer aspect of the game while not being utilized by the player base it was intended to.
This feature tried to give PvP some meaning (and its a good feature with some minor tweaks), but it failed, and the main cause for that would be the private modes.

Which sounds very much like a requirement for the feature to be able to be dominated by PvP for it to be considered worth playing by some of those that prefer PvP.

Totally tongue in cheek. :)
Previous posts wanting PP to be open only are all stick and no carrot. If you want to take something from me to make your game better, offer me something in return to make my game better. Don't just take as that's not a compromise (not that we have any say anyway).

Besides, I think it would be fun to see open back to stock FSD drives for battle condas.

I played open once and I, just quicidently, last about ten minutes. It was a DOH moment. After my rebuy (all ways have 2) I went back to solo. Wasn't mad and wasn't sad. But I was er, enlightened. I did not post a grip or complaint in the forums. Nor did I threaten rage quite.

Let me be clear here ... I like open and I like enteracion between real players. But I also have certain goals. And I do not need ankle bighters bothering me while I attempt to fulfill my goals. No disrespect to any true role playing players out there.

The question is why not open? And that has been covered in OH so many other threads. I suspect, as I said above, people have goals or just do not want to chance interaction with those who just enjoy killing for the killing. Even though it's a pretty big Universe.

See this is where you've not understood.

"direct PvP" is OPTIONAL for every player - if they don't want it, they don't have to have it.
It's the core premise for the ENTIRE game and all of its content.

"direct PvP" is consensual and purely for personal enjoyment / entertainment. Nothing more.

The fact FDev didn't even make CMDRs worth the same merits in PP as the NPCs should have been a big clue that PP is not for "direct PvP".

We are going in a loop, its indirect pvp because you can do this in solo.

Because you can do this im SOLO, people dont bother playing with it at all, because it becomes yet again another form of pve grind and we have more than enough of those.

That is exactly why I suggested to lock it in open only, so PvP players will have something to do in the game.

If you dont care for us to have content, dont be surprised that open is what it is. Because currently, I just shoot at anyone on sight, if it happens its a PvP built ship we have a good fight, otherwise they die.
If its fine with you, its fine with me, and by all means lets keep this going.

Does it then by any chance surprise you, that when someone logs into Open, checks their contacts and bandwidth monitor, sees a bit of traffic and a few funny avatars, then immediately hits Log out to Menu and gets back in game in Solo - purely to get a good laugh out of annoying people solely interested in such behaviour?

Besides - I thought PVP was it's own content. Find fellow pew-pews and have epic PVP battles worthy of legend.

It gets boring after a while, I am not surprised people play in solo, I dont care if they do tbh. I just want pvp content to be part of ED, the private modes are only an issue when they undermine the common content, other than that they can stay and cater to whoever needs them.

The game was designed around Frontier's desired user experience - for every player to both experience and affect the single shared galaxy state, regardless of game mode (and now platform). That's a design point that they have stuck to for over five years now - and there seems to be no sign that that's about to change.

Every update that has brought new content has implemented the features in all three game modes with two notable exceptions, Wings and Multi-Crew, which are only available in the two multi-player game modes (so far - that may change as and when we get NPC ship's crew in addition to SLF pilots and NPC Wingmen).

I doubt very much that Frontier would gate existing content to a single game mode - especially as they would seem to be well aware that the majority of players don't get involved in PvP.

We'll see, in time, whether new content is introduced that would be limited to Open only.

"Five years ago" it was a poorly thought out idea that has only turned into a pile of ugly in the intervening years of development and play. In other words, it hasn't remotely stood the test of time. When are you guys going to accept that just because Fdev came up with the plan for a broken mechanic nearly half a decade ago before anybody had any idea how this would shape up, their adherence to it now has more to do with having a tiger by the tail than sticking to a winning formula? Essentially it's just a political necessity; how the heck would we go about cleaning this game up and bringing it up to professional standards for a legitimate mmo in 2017 by making it a level playing field for all without there being a mutiny???

I'm amazed that so many of you insist on sticking up for such a patently bad idea. As far as I'm concerned it's just another exploit akin to cheating. Must be a 1984 thing I guess.

Whether it's a bad idea, or not, rather depends on one's opinion. For some the lack of any requirement to engage in direct PvP to participate in all of the game content is an appreciated feature, not a problem - again, it rather depends on whether one considers that direct PvP should be a requirement of participation.

.... and Frontier have stuck with their design - and they know that some players don't agree with them.

Hey guys,
I noticed that the Elite playerbase is not very large compared to most "mainstream" games (people are missing out!) and it would be nice to get more people to play in open. Here is my question: Whay mode do you play in? What are your reasons for playing in that mode? If you decided to venture into open, What changes would you like to see to make your gametime more enjoyable?

I always play in open myself. Reason behind my decision? I enjoy human contact regardless if its friendly or hostile! It's what makes this game so enjoyable and challenging. Sure you can be in solo mode and have 1,000,000.000 credits and a A rated cutter, but what is the fun in that? NPC's are really no challenge. Even the Thargoids pose no "great" threat.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Regards

The Running Man

These things have been asked many times before, but that's ok. Forums in general are like the eternal wheel of life: forever repeating itself.

I play solo.
The reason is that this is simply all I desire from any game: an immersive universe I can dwell in without having to deal with tiresome, babbling, annoying, frustrating, griefing and ganking humans... just me, my ship and the galaxy. I need nothing more than that.
