Cannon weapon question

Last night I decided to try out a new weapon layout on my Asp.
2x fixed med beams and 4x small gimball cannons.
To test them, I got lucky, and was interdicted by a sidewinder NPC.
I didn't realize it was shieldless at first, so fried it for a 4 seconds with the beams.
When I realized it was shieldless, I went with the cannons.
I fired, and hit of 4 rounds of 4 small cannons before it exploded.
I thought the cannons were a bit stronger than this?

Cannon hull damage is much more visible with Class 3 and 4. Class 2 is great for module attacking.

For an asp, you're better off with 4 c1 bursts and 2 c2 cannons.

Was running with 4xc1 pulse, and 2xc2 MC.
Maybe I'll give your suggestion a try.

I run a single C3 Gimballed Cannon alongside a C3 Pulse on my Vulture.
It's pretty underwhelming against hull, but takes down powerplants in 3-4 shots (+ pulse damage). Really good at taking out Asps or bigger, but I don't even bother firing it at smaller ships as the pulse laser takes them down quickly enough anyway.

I have used 1 B4 gimballed and 2 D2 gimballed cannons on my FDL and always get between 25 and 35% of HULL damage every time I use them, they are no good against shields but against hulls I can see the damage of the hull and then count very easily because I can count to at least to 100, so that makes my maths correct.....hull at 100%.....1 hit with all three cannons and the hull is left at 65%....35% damage to hull with that set up.
I also use the same setup as my FDL on my Python, but I replace the B4 cannon with a gimballed C3 cannon and then get 22 to 30% damage against hulls only, I can easily kill an Anaconda without targeting any modules by just killing the hull with cannons after stripping the shields first, I never target anything, never have. This tri-cannon weapon set up is extremely effective at any distance upto 500 meters as long as you can learn to use the ''leading'' gunsight and aim ahead slightly, it took me a couple of hours to learn that then any ship with a hull the size of a Cobra or above is fair game withing 500 meters with the cannons.
With the little 1 series cannons you still have to strip the shields but you then have to be within around 300 meters to kill and get good hits because they do not obviously have the power of their bigger brothers and I believe the projectiles fly a little slower and not as good distance too.
