Cannot Update Launcher On Steam

What I discovered is that there is a new "Frontier_Developments" folder with launcher files together with the old "Frontier Developments" folder. It seems the new launchers in installed in the "_" folder but updates or launcher version is checked in the " " folder, leading to an update that is never found.

I have this same issue. But on my machine I can't run the EDLauncher directly. If I run it outside of Steam I get graphics device errors. The game does run correctly if I let it auto-log in from Steam as others have said above.

It's kinda messed up, yep.

I found this in the client.log in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Elite Dangerous\logs (Authenticated user: Xbox One User):

Previosuly my account was authenticated successfully. Who should I contact? ED or Steam?

UGH!!!! Having this problem now too, since install. And stuck on spikes nearly to Beagle Point. Grrrr. Doing the Upgrade and hope that restores ability to launch non-Horizons in offline mode. But WHY THE HELL hasn't Frontier just created a "Stuck" button on the launcher that will launch Horizons, but with SRV/SLF back in ship (if out), and ship in "orbit" if landed? That would be SO MUCH SIMPLER. Even better if that option was at "main" menu rather than forcing a game relaunch.

Added: Yep. That fixed it. Just add the "Recover to Orbit" button on the main screen under Resume or something, FDev. Please!

Edit 2: This fix also has fixed the unable to launch from the task tray steam button issue. AND gives Steam Auto-Login with game choices still available (EDH, ED, Arena, Training). BONUS! I would call this a Steam Patching BUG more than a Frontier issue. BUT my request for "Recover to Orbit" from EDH main menu stands. Please Add This!

Hi FDEV,

having the very same issue with the Steam Launcher - it requires some update which there is no download for.

Just adding my voice to the crowd, I suppose someone is already looking into this and we can expect a fix soon :)

You may comment here:

But actually, this issue tracking and upvoting thing FDev has put there, ... I don't have words for it. I am a software developer, if I would say to my users, hey, ok this bug is obvious but I don't care until you bring me some more people to support it, I do nothing... shakes head in disbelieve o_O

FDev, this is how you should do it:
  • who ever finds a bug it can be documented using your issues web site
  • you do some inspection, check if not already reported, merge if it is, ... keep it clean stuff (here we could assist like the moderators here in the forum do)
  • you give every issue two tags:
  • priority, like: doesn't matter, ..., important, ..., game breaking
  • difficulty, like: easy, ..., normal, ..., hard, risky and many side effects
(By the way, this tagging would already be important and good professional communication to us.)

Now you can easily do bug fixing: easy and game breaking first, hard and doesn't matter last if ever.

You could set up continuous update delivery with that, as you like it: daily, weekly or what ever with the easy bug fixes, monthly are half a year with more testing for the hard and risky ones. Again we could assist with testing, like, if I want, I subscribe into the beta/alpha update stream, and I get all the untested bug fixes directly downloaded incl. some update informations like links to the issues, to report back.

Ok, stoping here as it is likely unheard.

It started with the silent launcher update before ED April Update.
After individual resolving it came back with ED April Update.

Without fix it stays a bug.

Same Problems here.

Launcher wants an Update, auto logins and launches the game in VR right away.

I'd appreciate a fix. And some information about changes like this in the future.

Forcing stuff like an auto-login is top notch again. I didn't ask for it. Did anyone?
At least give us an option to pass on that "service" and communicate it, ...please.

I've been getting and ignoring that message as I launch through Dr Kaii's profiler or the Oculus launcher. Sometimes it queries steam and I see this message AFTER my play session. It's annoying, please get it sorted out FDEV.
