In 2015 there were 20k at one time and it was working fine.. now barely 8k and servers rnt working "just steam i know" but the same was in 2015

because it isn't about total number of players (it could be 100k and noone would care) but about the rate of change. AWS isn' a fixed number of servers, but it scales (pretty much up to whatever you want). But there is a limit to how fast it scales. And 40 minutes ago, when this started, happened to be the peak, and about far above what AWS would expect based on recent trends.
