Newcomer / Intro Cant enter open play

hi,
new to game and although I can play with a friend in group play when ever I try to enter open play when I go to options it shows game mode as solo play, is there any thing I need to do before I am allowed into the open play part of the game?

thanks for any help on this matter.

You are in solo mode until your first system jump, then you will be in open. Found the answer over in the support sub-board.
