Can't send/receive direct messages from players

Ahoi fellow CMDRs,

I've recently started having the sudden problem that I'm no longer receiving messages from players in chat.
And apparently the direct messages I send to players don't go out either.

I haven't changed anything on my computer or game settings.
I have verified the game files several times (Steam and Launcher).
I have checked the firewall settings.

Does anyone have any idea what else the problem could be?

a tempoarary server hiccup possibly?

Nope - didn't touch anything on my side. Router stats are as usual and everything else is running fine (YT etc.).
Even ED itself was smooth and stable over the last days without any disconnects.
It's just the chat with friends that isn't working.

I had a short glance into one or two of them ... and was completely overwhelmed by the amount of information there.
I'm a mostly harmless grandpa - not an IT-specialist - so I can't really judge what could be "useful". Pardon!
