Can't toggle advanced placement

Hey there,
I'm building a custom structure in Sandbox mode and I'm running into an issue concerning advanced placement. I have placed a couple of items on the ground with my preferred grid settings, but when I add additional items WHILE editing this set of items already placed, I'm unable to press x and open advanced placement mode. The only solution I've found is to finish editing this set of items, place a new item down, with separate grid settings and then press x. But this is obviously another problem because I want to use the original grid settings.
Any suggestions?

I'm building a custom castle. I've already placed down the main pillars/towers and want to start making arches, walls and entrances. This is where I run into the issue.

Walls, arches, etc are gridded objects, that can not be moved with advanced move unfortunately. Or you have to place single walls, and then move the "building"

in addition to the other rep,y.....
make the grid size the lowest and u can get the grid pieces where u need them since u can’t use Advanced Placement. It was essential when I made my castle ride. I had to overlap pieces

Okay, I understand. But when I place a new wall/arch, etc, with a separate new grid, I can use the advanced placement, just not on an existing grid with other walls/arches. But thanks for your input :)

Yes making the grid the lowest is really helpful for finer placements. I'm quite new to custom building and the game in general, so I'll just have to experiment around a bit and hopefully the building becomes more fluid.
Thanks for your post :)
