Captains Log - NI14D Hawkeye

3303/05/02 - 20:38

This is Nicolas Saissore, captain of the NI-14D Hawkeye. A Dolphin class ship fitted with 1 luxury cabin and the best equipment you can get for long range exploration trips. My first client is the famous explorer Kenzie Hebert of the Sitakapan Expeditionary Forces who offered a large sum for collecting data on some nebula at the upper edge of the galaxy 6000ly from the bubble. It is so far out I'm not sure my 41 ly jump range is enough to reach it but no need to wake a sleeping horse. I will see how it goes when we are there. Perhaps this SRV will come in handy. The whole jurney has to be completed in 27 days so we need to travel about 450 ly per day. Enough time to collect data along the way.

I think she is hiding something because she wants to keep a low profile but I don't ask questions as long as my clients behave. And if not I have got my ways to deal with it. Our first major destination will be the pen nebula for some nice views.

A few jumps out we found some water world but universal catographics shows it was already charted by another ship. Perhaps we are more lucky next time.

9 Jumps before the pen nebula we found an unlucky soul in an escape pod and scooped it up. Livesigns are stable and we were debating over opening the pod. I could convince Kenzie it is better to leave the pod alone. Don't want to loose my ship because of some maniac like on this generation ship I heard of.

We are now 500 ly out of inhabited space and find a lot of uncharted systems. It is getting more interesting and our stops get longer.

Found two earthlikes but someone was already here. We agreed to stay here and get some sleep before we continue.

Kenzie reminded me for the thousands time it is pencil nebula not pen nebula. She wants me to scan every damn rock we find on our way. But I convinced her to only scan the valuable ones or we won't make it in time.

One jump out from the pencil nebula we detected some weapons fire. I got curious to see the source and dropped out of supercruise just to be welcomed by some pirates who began to scan our cargo bay. As soon as I noticed I activated silent running and jumped to the next system.

So we reached our destination next to the pencil nebula. It was still very small. I expected some better sights but ok.

The more remarkable note is that this system 750 lys from the bubble is inhabitated. It is ruled by some faction called seven stages movement. The other faction here is called 'The shunned'. We really don't know with whom we deal here but we take all our bravery and land on an asteroid base. We got a nice welcome after the landing and Kenzie tried to get to know how the people got here mumbling something about late gen generation ships but nobody wants to tell us this story.

The people on the base tried toconvince us to stay and help build up the colony but we decline the offer. They act very strange like some religious cult but most of the talk still is about money and how they are gonna make a fortune selling there ressources to stock markets in the old world when their industry is up to par. They even plan to expand to the neighbouring systems soon.

We continue our journey. The next destination is going to be the Puppis Dark Region B.

- 'If you stare into the abyss, the abyss stares back at you.'
-Nietzsche

We reached the Puppis Dark Region B. Clara, one of Kenzies students made these pictures of this dark void. Sprawling like a monster ready to devour everything it can in an attempt to erase the light. But Barnards Loop stems against the darkness as a shining light of hope.

Most people who don't have the possibility to travel among the stars think space is mostly black. But it is not. Out of the atmosphere you see so many stars, nebulas and galaxys you wonder how mankind could ever think it is alone in this universe. There are some gas giants in our current system and one of them even contains life according to the scanners. I always wondered how lifeforms on a gas giant would look like but our shields would not stand a chance against the high pressures and turbolences in its atmosphere. So we are going to finish our scans in this sector and then plan the route to the next stop. A few jumps ago we found two more water planets.
