Casinos in E:D?

Back to topic, I can support in-game money gambling as a novelty mini-game or something, like playing for caps in Fallout 2 and New Vegas. As here isn't a "luck" skill like as in those games I think it could be a credit sink and with luck, we all learn the valuable lesson that there is no way to win in those games.
With games like pontoon/21/Black-Jack it is possible to be in a consistent net-win upward path by understanding the odds of winning each hand. With games like Poker, bluffing is a big part of the game and thus is on the whole less predictable. With other games (e.g. Roulette), there is much more luck and randomness.

True gambling in general though is a mug's game, and anyone that engages in it should only bet as much as they are prepared to lose (regardless of the nature of the currency being gambled).

Well, since GTA has opened a casino today, one question that has been on my mind for a long time: Why is there no gambling and no casinos in E: D?

Here is my suggestion:
  • Casinos are limited to anarchy systems, always placed in the station furthest from the sun.
  • They offer the usual casino games (black jack, poker, baccara etc.)
  • Additionally they offer an engineer!
    • Meaning: You bring a module and certain or random mats, risk them and RNG provides you with a 'godroll', if you are lucky.
    • Ofc those do not exceed the normal engineered modules, as every superb value brings a very weak value with it, like a shieldbooster with 200 % more shield but also 200 % more weight or heat...
I personally feel gambling is a terrible damaging addiction and should not be encouraged in anyone, especially the young.
The same with drinking, smoking and vaping in games.

In general, I agree BUT there is perhaps some merit in having limited in-game currency gambling in games like ED. Gambling in itself need not turn into an addiction, when it does it is predominantly due to inherent personality flaws.

WRT Drinking, smoking, vaping, and drugs in general - substance abuse is on the whole something else but society in general is the biggest problem on that score. Games, movies, and TV in general are mere footnotes by comparison and if such topics are addressed appropriately can actually discourage substance abuse.

I don't want E: D to attract those kind of players.
It's bad enough Ten Cent had to delete a number of profitable PtW mobile gambling games in China pretending to be 'fun'

If you have been paying any attention - I am ONLY supporting the idea of in-game resource/currency gambling with no linkage to either Arx or real-world money.

Casino mechanics in general need not be PtW nor real-world profitable.

Ultimately, ED is unlikely to attract the kinds of players you are referring to even with basic in-game simulated gambling of some sort.

There's already one...its called stop using Inara and EDDB and go commodity trading.

Touch a nerve did I? whoops.:devilish:

In all seriousness - casino's in-game are becoming a legality problem in many countries. Its why games are very skiddish about implementation of such things.

Don't matter if its virtual or not....the law doesn't give a damn - companies don't want liability or having to pay for permits or whatever it is they need to "do such things"

And gambling is a wide subject in definition terms - that vary from county to country.

Don't see this happening in the near future.
