[CCN] The Christmas Carriers Convoy

Good luck guys.

I'd ask to join the roster but this pony flies Solo. I make my own routes.

You do know that nothing is mandatory, right?

So how does this work? You can join any convoy group and have to just make sure you make it to the intermediary checkpoints? What else is required from the people joining the convoy?

As much as I hate to say this, you'll have to likely change me from Militia to Freelancer. I still intend to act as a heavy escort, but I recently found out that I will be going to the field for the beginning of this event. Not sure I'll be able to really coordinate wings and maintain consistent hours of participation.

If you dont mind having a Militia escort flying in a less organized manner, then by all means leave me in the roll I am now. Otherwise, switching me to freelance may be the best solution.

You're making me think now. That's dangerous.

I'll give the thread a proper read tomorrow morning. :)

As with any expedition, the least one 'has' to do is go from A to B within a decent approximation of the timeframe. All the rest is optional and is only there to facilitate the adventure as a group and to organize fun breaks during meetups; but nothing's mandatory. It's just advised, if your time commitment allows it. Mass departure and deep space meetups are always nice opportunities to take 5 and meet people. Especially with slow ships.

In the case of the CCC, as mentionned on the thread, only the main departure event (happening in Open, being streamed and filmed, etc.) will have a tight protocol to ensure proper RP and epicness. Only those who want to take part in it will have to follow protocol. If you don't, you can do things your way :)

You can friend peeps on the roster and organize your own departure event, in FleetComm, in your private group, etc., I invite people to do so (and use ShadowPlay/OBS so we can have footage!). And again, there will be meetups and livestreams and such, but you're absolutely free to skip 'em all :p

Just so we don't look for you during launch time, I'll move you to Freelancer; if you happen to have a more stable schedule later, I'll move you back to Militia. Hope you'll have time to play!

Just signed up. I've been itching to do it since this thread started, but I wanted to make sure I would be able to get my ship fitted properly first. Can't wait to participate in what looks like it will be a great event.

One question about outfitting though: As a carrier, is it okay to bring along a scanner and SRV bay in the smallest two slots? I'd quite like to be able to do some exploring along the route, but don't want to risk not meeting the RP requirements on the day.

....you NEED to be on voice comms to listen to the Fleet Leader...

Hi Qohen (or any one else here who is more experienced with that than I am, which is probably everyone ),

which voice comms? I've never used voice comms in a game, and I can see that there are audio/voice channels in Discord as well as in game, and possibly a few other places.

As for equipment: I recently bought a mike (thought I'm going to try and familiarize myself with Voice Attack before going for VR) but so far, that cute little beast (Samson Meteorite - on sale at Amazon.de) is sitting in front of me and only occasionally flashing a red LED at me - I have little idea on how to check how well (or bad) it works.
On the other hand, seeing that Discord supports using dedicated audio channels, I'm also prepared to get a simple BT headset (ok, earset) just for voice comms. That would probably make for better voice quality than the desktop mike which definitely will pick up a lot of other noise besides.

Since I don't really want to spam this thread by discussing what are probably low level technical issues - any place better suited to ask/discuss these questions?

Of course! Carriers need to have cargo, not only cargo :) I'll have sRV and fighters, so... all good. It's light RP, not hardcore RP ;)

Yup, directly on the Discord server!

All comms will be on the server, so that includes voice. Channel is not important, you'll see which one will be crowded at the time of departure ;)

Best way to check your mic is to hop on comms sometime when there are peeps, and ask for their help. Simple as that :) Headphones would be better a priori, but that depends your desktop mic. I only use a desktop mic myself.

I'm excited to try this. I'm hoping to get a friend involved too. I'll be in my Asp Explorer. My friend has an Asp too. Time to start getting ready for the trip.

I am really interested by this expedition, but, in the sign-up, does a discord account is compulsory ? [???]
Thank you by advance.

sorry for my English, i'm learning [big grin]

It's not, unless you want to take part in the media-covered departure event. But if unexpected news happen during the expedition, it's very likely they won't appear here (unless it's super important). You can also use Discord with a throwaway account, if you don't want to register.

Generally speaking though, there are thousands of Elite players using Discord as communication hubs, it really helps bringing life to the game (if that's your thing).

Thank you Qohen Leth.

I think that i'll make a throwaway account...

ok, just signed up in escort with the militia, one quick question.... Ill be flying my anaconda, so i have space to spare..... would i be more useful hauling stuff, or hauling extra gas and limpets? I guess im asking if their would be cross communication between the RP roles.... you know, if I happen to be the closest to a stranded pilot...... I could be a good backup fuel rat.

Do as you prefer - of course there will be communication, that's the point of a comms hub like Discord :D

Hi,
Ive just signed up for a carrier with my beluga.
As a member of The 9th Legion, i would be honoured to join with you on this epic voyage.
Im already Elite explorer, so this should be fun.

Just signed up for a carrier. But I have a question regarding the cargo: What about rare goods? I mean if Beer and Wine is on the list of much needed commodities then I guess Colonia will also be happy with some Lavian Brandy or Indi Bourbon served in a Hutton Mug?
