You make it sound like malicious compliance.
I wouldn't say malicious - just another case of "the community" asking for something it didn't actually want, or "the community" asking for something while "the community" didn't notice it was going on to counter it.
And people had been voting with their feet on the weekly CGs for a while, with participation down from about 10,000/week to about 2,500/week so changing up the format made sense as an idea.
Has there been an official word about the fact that the CGs are suspended/over ? Or is this discussion speculation ?
They've changed how they do them. The basic pattern now seems to be:
- about 4 weeks of Interstellar Initiative (II) which includes CGs and other things in a multi-week story
- two or three weeks of one player-submitted CG each (usually trade or mining, because that's what players submit)
- a pause while the next Interstellar Initiative is prepared (possibly right now a slightly longer pause because they don't want to start it until the recent 3.5 release is stable)
The days of "two CGs a week, every week" are over, though.
