Changing Ships Without Landing At A Station First

I mean... Drop to normal space, hyper jump out, go to a station, change ship, jump back.
Weird part is turning up back at the same spot and not at the system star though, yeah.
This is one of those video/logs things I think.
Well, yeah, I thought if he did that how would he know exactly where to reappear once he got back with another ship? Twice, in fact. That's why I figured I'd better ask about it first. I don't want to accuse anyone of being a HaKor or anything like that if a new "feature" was recently added.

How long did it take?
Is it possible he dropped out of SC, switched to solo, got in a new ship, SC out to where he was,then switched back to Open.
To mess with you?

Drop out of SC was about 60 to 90 seconds. At about 600 or 800 ls from the nearest station, I doubt he could have (1) switched to solo, (2) gotten to any station that quickly, (3) changed ships, (4) gotten back to his exact SC-drop-out location and (5) come back in SC right where he was before. Even if he dropped to Solo, he'd never be able to get EXACTLY back to the exact location that quickly.

FYI, the ship he chose to come back in had 4 fragmentation cannons but no shields. I believe it was an attempt to entice me into interdicting him.

If... You didn't scan him, how did you know he had four frags and no shields???
Oh, that kind of "scan", thought you meant I had to do a manifest scan. Ok, will check my logs. I assume there's a lot of digging I'll have to do to find the exact time, etc.

Well, I checked logs, shows the two ships but not the commander name associated with them. I did see several private messages coming in from another person I was chatting with (only showed that person's responses, but the person's name was represented in the log with digits). It didn't show a ship "drop out of SC" or "new contact detected" (showing him coming back from sub-light).

I guess what I'll do is go back in, keep an eye out for him and start marking down the times, in/out of SC and if the ship changes, etc. That way I'll have a time that I'm looking for and be better able to articulate what I'm trying to describe here. I've been going over all this log stuff for so long I'm going to need another hit of coffee. Sorry for being such a non-help on this point.

i just checked (with EDDiscovery on!) if i target a Cmdr it is shown as:

{
"timestamp": "2019-10-17T16:27:05Z",
"event": "ShipTargeted",
"TargetLocked": true,
"Ship": "federation_corvette",
"Ship_Localised": "Federal Corvette",
"ScanStage": 3,
"PilotName": "$cmdr_decorate:#name=xxxxxxx;",
"PilotName_Localised": "CMDR XXXXXXX",
"PilotRank": "Master",
"SquadronID": "42SQ",
"ShieldHealth": 100.0,
"HullHealth": 100.0,
"LegalStatus": "Clean"
}

shows cmdr and ship type with a timestamp
download EDDiscovery and check again

That's probably the cause of my problem: I never activated the FSD interdictor so I don't have that type of sequence of events in my logs. He may be on again this evening so I'll give it another go.

Addendum: Where specifically is that log file? I'm on PC / Steam? Thanks.

no, that's simple targeting, nothing else

OP has an interesting premise. I'm currently out in my Cobra with SUV prospecting for materials. Once that's done it would be really great if I could summon my Mining Asp to land/dock alongside me. Given that ships in Elite are quite capable of "flying" unmanned (when you transfer them from one station to another, when they take off and leave you alone in the SUV) it should surely be a short stretch to introduce such a capability into the game. Otherwise it is a long tedious trek back to where you parked your other ship. How the mechanic of transferring would be achieved is a matter for the lore, we don't appear to have beaming technology in ED but a cutscene space walk or two ships joined with a docking collar would suffice.

As a cheat, I have seen folks on discord channels taking about moving from open to solo, doing a self-distruct in solo which would put you back at the closest station, then coming back in Open with a different ship provided you have multiple ships at that station. I still don't understand what benefit this gives someone or why it would be done.
That would make sense if I saw him come back to that location from the station. However, it would have taken more time than that to get back where we were and, again, he came from from sub-light back into SC from the exact location he dropped SC. And I agree, I don't see the benefit from doing that in a ship with no shields unless he's just that plain good.

I dunno, I still have problems believing the OP isn't just mistaken, and the ship never changed... Sorry, it just seems improbable.

Now wait a minute there. If my ship flies unmanned when I transfer it to another station, why does it cost me that much credits everytime?! I always figured some one in the hangar actually needed to stop drinking their coffee and fly the ship for me?

The lore is they are delivered by megaships (which are not shown and happens "Off screen")
