When I watched the Dev streams for the Beta and the lads were always going on about "It's a FREE update" I didn't really think much of it TBH, mostly because I had bought Horizons so the "FREE" thing was not in my current mental vocabulary.
But...
I've been watching the launches of things like Battlefield V and Fallout 76 and anything to do with EA and... Diablo "Don't you have smart phones" Blizzard and it made me think...
Sometimes we (the CMNDs) want to grab FDev buy the metaphorical throat and ring it like Big Ben...but this update (I spent quite a few hours in Beta) is, in my honest opinion, a HUGE step forward, and, even with the controversial, infinite probes situation; something that the base players who don't care for PvP and high level engineering and Thargoids and all that comes with that can still get more out of Elite Dangerous than they had before (the new system scanning system is loads better if you are not just a "Honk 'n' Go" type person and, if you are, then I implore you to please give it a chance; it's not IMUUUUSHUNNN breaking to hear the real sounds of the universe).
Anyway I digress (because of brandy), everything we are getting is really, and truly free.
Most of us on the forums have Horizons but we forget about the many thousands of casual players that might not, and they don't have to pay for this or a paint job, or a laser colour or anything like that to enjoy this new update.
I would love to murder in cold blood the person that had the idea of making all the new mining upgrades needing a ship with 95,000 hard points, but at the end of the day I'll not tell you Elite is DOOMED because the rest of the update I love.
And it's free.
So...Thanks FDev for not following the trend of "Pay to even have a chance to play, let alone win" type games that are beginning to saturate the current market.
To All you lovely buggers...
