Why do I occasionally when entering FSD do I get the message "cloud not scanned" and am not able to use FSD? It can take a while before I am able to use FSD. I also noticed that in the main screen bottom left info display at the same time display reads "need scan". Anyone any ideas?

This is because you have targeted someone's wake - i.e. the point at which they jumped into into hperspace. With the correct scanner you are unable to scan this and follow the jump.
Hmm. Have you installed a Wake Scanner?
It sounds like you have targeted a FSD Wake. You need to either:
1. Untarget the FSD Wake. Then you should be able to enter SC normally.
1. Deploy your Wake Scanner and scan the Wake, then your FSD will lock on and you can Jump to the same destination as the ship that created the wake.

ahh so it thinks I am trying to follow the ship with FSD rather than FSDing to my destination system.
