Clunk Click Every Trip

Imagine...
a near indestructible 500 ton object, flies directly into an immovable & indestructible object, at 1,230 mph.

... and then consider 2 ships ramming each other at max velocity.

The calculator figures are extremely conservative, allowing a deceleration period of 1 whole second. Multiply G by at least 100 for a full stop, even more for a bounce...

Ramming other cmdrs ships is so much fun, btw.

Holo-me is real. RL logic not.

Ships does not actually have cmdrs in flesh, its only astral projections. The real bodies of cmdrs are actually stored in diffrent dimersion. Truly.

Blah blah inertial dampeners blah much less than forces applied in supercruise acceleration blah space magic.

If known physics is applied to this game then there would be instant death all over the place.

But here’s the real answer: the future humans have figured all this technology out before using it. Nobody dies from such things and everyone goes on their own merry way on their individual journey in Elite. And by the way it’s a video game and the developers took some havdwavium and threw it in the game to make it fun.

Umm, am I missing the joke here? (500 m/s to 0 m/s in 1 second is 500 m/s/s or roughly 51 g...)

Bit weird, I searched and found what looks to be the same webcalculator, and it gave me the right numbers.

... me too!

You make a very good point.

Looks like I must have fat-fingered something in the fields above it.

a spaceship with gravity inside it so you don't float about but sit in a chair.

If you have artifical gravity, then all real-world physics can be similarly ignored in favour of space magic.

Ok I can do that but…

I didn’t think we were talking Star Trek or Star Wars.
We are - you have space magic gravity, you have space magic warp drives, you have space magic fighter combat that pretends to be airplane combat. It is literally star wars, but with a different skin and lore.
