CMDR Traffic Map...

I don't feature much on these pages but am a keen CMDR in the universe and something occurred to me the other day that i thought i'd share in case some clever bod can make it happen.

Now i've noticed many third party apps like eddb which is full of glorius trade data and many other useful metrics for us CMDR's but one metric i'm really interested in and perhaps others are too is the ability to see how many CMDR's are passing through systems on a map. Now this data exists if you interrogate each stations Traffic Report and we can see activity in the last 24 hrs but can this data be collected like trade data and displayed on some fancy map?

I know i can't do it but there are some very tenacious players out there who might know of a way...or perhaps i'm behind the curve and its already out there...anyone?

It occurrs to me also that it would have a ton of uses, e.g if you can see a load of FDL's hanging around one system maybe you don't risk that trade run, or if you want pirate action you filter for popular Type 9 traffic, etc...

There is a traffic report, but it doesn't include every CMDR in the galaxy.

Nice! But can you interrogate like trade data and get most recent activity, etc. Thats just an animation?

Doesn't the station's traffic report also include NPC traffic?
This exact data isn't included in the Cmdr's journal file at the moment anyway.

I'm pretty sure the traffic report is only CMDR's - i did read this somewhere perhaps years ago but i don't have a link sadly. I wondered if you can automatically extract this traffic data and send to a database...

I'm actually surprised its not a thing already but perhaps that data is unobtainable.

Why would a trader avoid a system with a load of Fer de Lanceys? They're just 1 of many combat ship types.

The stations report is any Cmdr traffic that has passed through the system. Similar to a real world traffic report through airspace, it tracks movements through the system. So a single cmdr jumping through the Sol system twice will register as two ships.

@Gully, no idea mate. I've only looked at those reports online, never installed EDSM.

I see an FDL in open, I can expect trouble. Kinda like spotting a BMW driver on the road.

Well aren't they the preferred tool for making trouble? This is just my example if you want to use another criteria that ought to be possible too.

I reckon thats just a small no. of CMDRS signed up to EDSM who are probably focused more on exploration...? I'm talking about the whole populations movements, kinda like tracking everyones cellphones.

Confirmation bias is a wonderful thing.

I fly an FdL in ED and drive a BMW, both entirely legally and courteously.

Course, in ED it's probably pretty near the mark.

Not so much as confirmation bias but more so as you being an outlier.
