Ships Cobra Mk IV Owners Club

Flying FA off all the time requires some kind of special skills, or setting up your hotas to dull down the movements to prevent over steer. I know a few who swear by it, I think for the most part the majority of users toggle it on and off as required.

My sugestion is try the training missions, where cost is irrelevant to see what works best for you. I know of one guy who lands with FA off. Every time I try that it end with a rebuy :(

100% fa-off with kb+m here. The only way to fly! :)

Why is is so impossible to fly VR with K+M?
I would definitely try, and if I'll fail, then I'll probably buy something like this to make it easier:

It depends on what you want to take out.
I think gimballed lasers against smaller targets and rails against mid-large ships is a well balanced build.

Most certainly once you gain some skill and feeling of how the MKIV handles responds to certain situation etc but as a beginner setup this I find is good for people to learn with :)

My currently MK IV has 2 gimballed frags and 3 small rails :)

I don't consider myself a good pilot, and I'm certainly no FAOLRD. But the rails are good way to get into fixed weapons, and even in the hands of mediocre pilots, I think it is more efficient against large ships than trying to balance the distributor to power gimballed lasers, especially on this slowish ship. And don't get me started about NPCs with loads of shield cell banks, or chaff - aganst those you are cooked with gimballed weapons. :)

I have found that with a hotas like the Saitek X52 there is so much button mapping potential I only really use the Kb for the oculus aspect reset when it drifts out of calibration, and one more for the chat window, thats just because I never got round to mapping it to one of the buttons.

The only real issue is typing messages as centering my fingers to touch type is not something I like having to do, VR really needs chat rather than typing :)

Remember with VR the need to have every option asigned to a button as in 2d is not needed as you can get so many from just look and click, which is faster anyhow.

I am going to mod my X52 as a couple of the options like the mouse on the throttle and another similar button that has three options can be converted to buttons else where on the stick, theres plenty of room. You can have macros asigned too for things that would need several clicks to operate.

Here are my 6 CM4s

As noted in the CM3 thread, some things might be a bit off, looks like EDDI doesn't update always.

Trade ship: https://eddp.co/u/6PMozoQK

Bit boring, don't do much trading, probably only use it for the odd delivery mission. 76t of space on a small ship ain't bad though.

Bomber: https://eddp.co/u/lKNWNDus

Still situationally useful for base missions as can take out turrets from range with a bombing run and also good for taking out parked ships. The SRV is still needed for killing skimmers though if a kill skimmer mission.

Passenger ship: https://eddp.co/u/nbyjES21

I have a selection of cabins, not just economy. Although can't fit VIP cabins at all of course and first class cabins are limited to the size 4 slots. Mainly designed for local taxi service but can be reconfigured for sightseeing missions with a size 4 FSD replacing one of the cabins.

Mining ship: https://eddp.co/u/iAvVKrTN

Think i need to tweak this one a bit. Can move the size 3 collector in the size 4 slot down to where the refinery is and fit the size 4 refinery. Plus i'm not sure why i have an empty slot..... maybe that's just a mistake with EDDI, will have to take a look.

Combat Tank: https://eddp.co/u/pNaLGya1

For use in CZs possibly. Need to take it for a spin. Its similar in design to my old Battle Beluga which was great for CZ, but of course, a bit less firepower and no SLF. Offsetting that is its a smaller target and faster.

Pirate ship: https://eddp.co/u/eDmz6TLa

Its been a while since i did piracy in a CM4 and had a bit of a different setup back then. Obviously not going to be pirating Anacondas or anything too nasty in this, but might be able to give a Type 7 a go, although only room for 48t of loot.

Shame Frontier doesn't make it purchasable for those that missed out on it. Hell, they could donate any money made from it to a charity or something if they want. I'd certainly would buy it if that was the case. :)

Exactly!!!

have some rep

In all honesty i couldn't care less if the cobra IV get a mass release for everyone.

Given the amount of whining from people who can fly it I'm not sure giving it to everyone to whine about is a good thing.

I have it and I like it a lot.

Having some troubles with the piracy ship. It does too much damage against small ship hulls. Been watching WiggyB's guides (and i really hope FD fix the issue with powerplant sniping sooner rather than later) and having real trouble pulling it off. Switched out one of my cannons for a missile rack for externals, will give that a go, see if it helps.

Recently engineered a Cobra mk IV for non-lethal entanglements by using crytoscramblers. 3 small fixed crypto, grade 5 efficient with flow control, melt shields FAST, but do almost no hull damage (and you can fire forever without overheating). I then have two medium seeker Missile racks to finish the job if needed... I’m not actually a pirate, I just like building ships, but I think this would work well.

Nice idea.... but it does involve a 4 week PP pledge.... maybe ill consider it later.
