Ships Cobra Mk IV Owners Club

I've just flown mine as a materials gatherer.
Notwithstanding the fact I forgot the limpets (stupid me!) I've taken out a pirate asp with less than optimum weapons.
Its been its been pretty good at landing on relativity tight sites (in canyons etc) that my python struggled with so I'm going to give it a good go and see what happens.

I wonder if someone opened a support ticket and told Frontier, "I really like Old Duck and I'd like to gift him my unused Cobra Mk IV", would they do it? We should try as an experiment! ;)
You’ll probably just get back the generic ‘...we have nothing to announce at this time...’

I should get a CMIV for all the emotional suffering I endured over the years with that terrible Elephant Butt Leather.

Wonder if they will revive the MkIV for ED2 (should it ever come). Personally I hope they come up with another ship similar (
Python Mk2?) as I like the idea that those with faith in FD and who put their money where their mouth is get rewarded.

They should do the MkIV what the Krait MkII did to the Python i.e. the same ship but slightly better, for some roles.

But, keep the MkIV reboot/alternative as a small ship. Small ships can do pretty much everything except mining, the reboot should be a good small ship miner.

The Cobra Mk4 is the best small ship miner in the game already. Its also a good pirate ship, trade ship, passenger ship, exploration ship, and if kitted well, not a bad combat ship either.

That right there is why it should be made available to everyone, particularly new players just starting out.
They don't make it available people say it should be.

They make it available and people will call FD liars and cheats for not keeping the exclusivity promise.

So the Mk IV gets a rough deal with countless threads about how terrible it is.

Now here's the thing. I actually agree with a lot of the criticisms. But there's a part of my soul, probably the very Scottish part, that loves the underdog. And I LOVE my Cobra Mk IV. I love this wonderfully flawed ship. So much so, that I've foregone my usual Asp for exploration, fitted my Cobra Mk IV the NGS Tennyson for exploration (we have 18 LYs) and headed off (very slowly) into the unknown.

This isn't a thread for criticisms of the Mk IV (we have plenty of those), but a place for fellow owners to share what they're doing with this marvellous vessel.

No need to be a Scottish to love this fine ship! I'm certainly not a poor commander, I own the 3 big ones and a whole fleet of over 20 ships but that's currently my favorite void opal cracker. Here's what this little ship can do in one run (pacifist mining version, weaponless):

86 Mio. VO.jpg

Plus 10 Mio. from 6 full hoppers:

No other ship flies that smooth through the cracked asteroid debris!
To me more like an insider tip rather than an underdog...
And what a beauty she is:

It's salvaging (manually, FA Off) where the Cobra Mk4 really shines. I'm testing now to mine without collector limpets. Freeing 16t cargo space up to a total of 68t, good for another 25 Mio. credits on top of the 96 Mio. under current conditions...

The image from my last post (second last from here) is iridescent Aurora. When I got this one, there were a few (2 or 3) other variations of iridescent available, one of them with a greenish touch. I liked this one very much but couldn't decide to purchase it and had not enough ARX left. Now I wanted to drop some money to Frontier and saw that they were all removed. Was this a special offer, just available for a short time? If so, I wasn't aware of it. Or is this probably an oversight?

Btw, after some core mining with my Conda over the last 2 days I felt even more in love with the CmkIV after just getting back to it. What a difference!

They should not make it available to everyone - that would go against the original promise.

But, they should release another small ship which is good at mining.
I know that to some it would be an issue, personally I wouldn't mind, not for the same reason at least. But I still believe it wouldn't be a good idea to give new players access to this ship, mainly cause they won't have easy access to g5 dirty drives. All they would get is an utterly slow ship for this size, which is even still true with engineered drives. They simply would have no way to deal with its shortcomings and most likely would lack skill and experience to appreciate its advantages and the knowledge where to use it best in the first place. I'm afraid this fine ship would quickly get a reputation of one of the most drowsy ones of all times (which it already has to some).

If it really must be, I would at least lock it behind a certain amount of playtime or ranks.

I dont see why the exclusivity is still in place for the Cobra MkIV, the original justification for it was to drive players to Horizons. It was also four years ago (an absolute age in gaming terms).
Since that point, Frontier have changed and evolved so many aspects of the user experience that this artificial constraint appears as a dinosaur from a time long past.
As a PS4 commander, I was never given the chance to own a Cobra MkIV so the argument of 'you didn't buy it when you had the opportunity' doesnt work.

I personally think that Frontier should bite the bullet and simplify their offering, making the Cobra MkIV available to all.
If it needs to be behind some form of artificial attainment level (King or Triple Elite for example) at least that means that it is possible for the PS4 community to be able to gain access to all the ships that the PC and XBox community can. I would like the Cobra MKIV to be available to all platforms but the PC, XBox fight is for other people to have.

Does engineering tha bajeesus out o' 'er thrusters put 'er on par with a Mk3 ?
ps currently docked on The Conduit waiting for it to jump back to the bubble, then prolly gonna flog the Phantom fa a Mk4. kinda think the Phantom is to good a ship for me tbh felt the same way about the Python when I eventually unlocked it.

Mine runs 300 cruise and 450 boost. The flight characteristics of the MK IV are pretty much like a medium ship, but with no noticeable drift and the bonus of being able to land at small pads. Bit meh point though, since there is no small pad only content in the game. If that existed, we'd see a much higher demand for the MK IV.

Keep the MkIV exclusive. I personally like having certain things in the game that I can't have. I wish I did have a MkIV but I really like that there is at least one rare ship.
