Horizons Cobra Mk IV???

What happened to the choice of free ship we were supposed to receive because they didn't get the 30 ships out on release? I believe they announced that back during 1.3 or something. That was suppose to be for all ED players whether you bought Horizons or not as an apology for having to wait for the 30 ships planned for release.

That's is the Viper Mark IV and it was for Beta Backers and above.

But only Kickstarter Beta backers and above. Not those of us who bought into Beta (or above) after the Kickstarter. (I was hoping I'd get it, didn't, but I've played since Gamma so it's <1% of my credit balance to buy one).

Meanwhile the question of the Cobra MkIV was pretty conclusively answered in this thread and the associate reddit post (linking to reddit from here is not allowed IIRC?). My impression was always that we'd still need to purchase it, but it was a question of whether it was unlocked or not.

You seem to be under the misconception that this thread isn't (apparently) about finding the dirty laundry (specific instances of misleading or mistaken info) to hold out against Frontier to publicly claim your well deserved confirmation bias entitlements. ;)

Apologies to anyone who was sincerely confused and mislead. You should probably take it up with Frontier directly in a calm and productive manner, providing evidence and explaining why you felt mislead, instead of piggybacking on the accusatory tone of this thread.

Thank you for that link.
I missed the reply to that thread from Falcon (added the following day) when I was compiling my list of links. (Do you mind PM'ing me the link to the reddit thread you're referencing?)

Just to clarify, I don't think anyone is arguing that frontier's original intention was to give the cobra for free.
In retrospect, people have located several places where they were VERY clear on this.

The point being made is that the primary source of information that all customers would be exposed to was worded ambiguously, and some of the easily located announcements were flat out wrong in some cases. (the original facebook announcement is still one of the top results when searching for the horizon's announcement.)

Many people saw horizons being advertised on a couple of third party sites or in the launcher, then went to the store page and bought the game based on the wording in the store.

It doesn't matter how clearly Braben was during a twitch stream or how clearly a buried reply to the forum announcement was.
The only place you can be 100% certain a customer will see terms such as this is on the final purchase page, and that was not corrected until September.

Since this is NOT the first time that FDEV's choice of wording has caused a misunderstanding, it needs to be addressed in some way.

Yes, I agree, and hopefully Frontier will learn from these kinds of mistakes for our mutual benefit going forward. As one of my friends is fond of saying, "Say what you mean and mean what you say." But in order to do that effectively, one needs to know the truth of the matter in the first place, being on point and all that.

Frontier is a relatively small team compared to the closed off big boys with armies of marketing lawyers out there though, so I can personally cut them some slack and grant them some forgiving leeway in this regard. Basically, I'd rather have it this way than the other way around.

Think you still have to buy it with credits, it just becomes available for purchase if you're eligible for it.

This is correct.

Michael

My understanding is we get it 'free' automatically...

The information I read said we would be granted a free Mk IV.. I will have to dig up the link again..
Okay, I started looking around for my free Cobra and couldn't find it anywhere. After some digging I found this post. I have to say that the advertising is a bit misleading.
For a limited time all existing Elite Dangerous players will receive a $15 loyalty discount plus the exclusive Cobra Mark IV ship when ordering the Elite Dangerous: Horizons through the Frontier Store. Discount will be automatically applied at checkout. Those who take advantage of this offer will be able to purchase the Cobra MkIV in-game when Elite Dangerous: Horizons lands.
If I receive a $15 loyalty discount PLUS the elusive Cobra, shouldn't the Cobra be free?
The cost in game of the new cobra is not really an issue, but I really did get this deal now thinking I would receive the new cobra.

I'm not from the USA, but I'm sure people have sued for less, lol ;) (and no! I'm not suing anyone)

When I was pre-ordering, it just had the bit about getting the exclusive Cobra MkIV. Didn't have the bit about just having the ability to purchase it. So thought it was worth a punt to email, and now I have the credits. Although will probably get a MkIII to be honest!

I logged a support ticket and they gave me the credits to buy the ship. Happy days!!

It was to be expected, honestly. Frontier weren't consciously trying to pull some sort of bait and switch here as there is no reason to.

This is why I was suggesting that people get in touch with Frontier if they feel wronged in some way regarding this.

Mountains out of molehills, especially since for many of us it probably takes longer reporting the "issue" than it does making enough to cover the difference just playing the game.

I just thought it worth the email as I don't get to play it often and struggling to make money (only got 55,000 credits so far!!), so for me it was worth the email.

Yeah, they dropped the ball on the Mk IV. I'ts a pile of doodie. The Mk III is a much better ship so I think I'll pass on the Mk IV.
Seriously devs, you need to take another look at the ship, it's meant to be a step up, not down. At least 1 extra small mount for a weapon,
and seriously consider a see through roof ;)

Until you find out that the Cobra 4 is not as good than the Cobra 3 :)

I'm sure it's a decent enough ship if you've only made 55,000 credits so far, assuming you spend the gifted credits on one. ;)

Actually, I wouldn't recommend it though, considering outfitting and insurance costs.

I suggest fitting out a viper with best you can buy. Make sure you have a warrant scanner. Find a hazardous resource site. Park up but stick close to authority ships and attack pirates at the same time the authorities do. You should make a few mill an hour!

As they have me credits instead of the ship, my intention is to get the MkIII anyway based on all the bad things I've read about the MKIV!

It's not that it's bad. It just isn't particularly any good. Should do alright as a lower tier trading ship or mining ship though.

Yes, the Cobra Mk IV really sucks.
It is a disgrace to the Cobra name.
