Horizons Cobra Mk IV???

Do you have a screenshot of that? Otherwise I'll claim for my Imp Cutter: "For a limited time all existing Elite: Dangerous players will receive a £10 loyalty discount plus the Imperial Cutter ship when ordering the Elite Dangerous: Horizons through the Frontier Store. Discount will be automatically applied at checkout. The Imperial Cutter will be added to your account when Elite Dangerous: Horizons Lands."

In the red part it says the Cobra Mk4 will be added to your account.

In the fine print at the bottom it says you will be 'unlocking the exclusive "Cobra Mk IV" in-game spacecraft'.

Added to account???

Unlocking???

Unlocking added to the account???

If you want to go all lawyer on it then it's a rather ambiguous.

Its not ambigous , according his screenshot thats rather clear he was entitled to a free cobra mark 4. I dont understand why they jsut not grant it, its cheap and not an overpowered ship far from it.Its not like redeeming a 160 million corvette.

I don't understand why people care one way or another. All this comes down to is more "waaah waah" entitled whining.

It's not entitled whining, it receiving promised goods from a company, like going to Amazon and buying say a MP3 player and one of the offers is an added Bluetooth speaker however when you get your order they tell you that the offer was to purchase the item for another 5 dollars it's a poor analogy but one I hope you get many of us purchased based on promised marketing

If this was World of Tanks and they promised a tank you have to pay for with RL money I'd get it, but IMO ownership of a mk4 is so much more insignificant than your example. If whether or not you'd be getting the Cobra MkIV for free had any sort of impact on your decision to purchase Horizons then, I dunno, can't say anything nice so I'll just shut up...

This is definitely the line I saw "For a limited time all existing Elite Dangerous players will receive a £10 loyalty discount plus the exclusive Cobra Mark IV ship".

From that I inferred that I would have a free MKIV added to my ship inventory. It is not a case of how much the ship costs but of how the statement was worded, and the wording here clearly points to a £10 discount and a Cobra MKIV in game. There is no mention of having to buy it or have access to it!

Thats exactly what i read too. They did make Advertising with a promised ship. right now they didnt provide it yet. european/German justice dont like those intentional tricks to get customers. me dont ether. so i really expect a free mark iv in spare. my compensation offer, in case they cannot, they may wire Transfer me 20million creditz. :)

what other reason should anyone have to buy a cat in a bag? ... also: we already had ED and bought a game with ED and the Addon Horizon. Means we got TWO licenses for ED and ONE for Horizon. So i should have one for ED in spare. Where is it? How can i get the key for it. i may want to give it to a friend of mine (you know that ist my right to use or sell my bought licenses? if not you may want to check european Copyright laws). ;)

but for now: where is my free mark iv? ^^

It isn't about the perceived value of the ship, or the validity placing a pre-order on the strength of it. It's about a business advertising something on a page with a "BUY NOW" button, then changing the content of that page once orders have been placed. I don't know how it works in the rest of the world, but here in the UK/EU there are rules against that sort of thing. There are get-out clauses for genuine mistakes such as pricing errors, but this was a deliberate rewording of advertising copy. Even if the original was a mistake / oversight, at the very least I'd expect an acknowledgement from FD, and an apology to those customers whose decision to pre-order was influenced by the original wording.

Should point out that the Cobra MKIV is a stinker and you wouldn't fly it even if you had it.
Irrelevant.

"Here's your burger, sir. I know it said it came with fries but we've changed our mind on that. But don't worry, the fries are foul and you probably wouldn't have eaten them anyway. Have a nice day."

I have been through all the newsletters. No.86 is the first mention of this: Quote:

"Welcome to Elite Dangerous Newsletter #86.

This week we're back from Gamescom and already preparing for PAX Prime. Read about Gamescom and our announcement of Elite Dangerous: Horizons below, and check out Mike Brookes' Developer Update about update 1.4: CQC.

Elite Dangerous: Horizons is a new season of gameplay expansions for Elite Dangerous, beginning this Holiday season and continuing into 2016, and we have details below in a letter we're republishing from Frontier CEO and founder David Braben.

We'll be talking about Elite Dangerous: Horizons lots in coming weeks and months as we develop the game in preparation for our first gameplay reveal, beta and eventual release. For now, Elite Dangerous: Horizons is available for pre-order, and existing players get a £10 discount and access to the exclusive Cobra Mk IV in-game. Buying Horizons will unlock the full season of content, extending into 2016. Beta access is also available for the entire season of Elite Dangerous: Horizons expansions. and we're also making the Lifetime Expansion Pass available again, granting access to all current and future seasons of Elite Dangerous and all beta tests."

I cannot see anywhere where we have been told we get a free ship

Well, actually this quote does in fact support the claims that the Cobra should be given to the players. Read the word "access" in the same context for the Cobra and the "...current and future seasons..." above. Either this means that lifetime beta buyers cannot actually play in the current and future betas - they have access to buy it only - or it means players get a Cobra. Pretty black-and-white IMO.

But really the core issue here is that FDev needs to simply stop the marketing hype and tricks. They're doing this on purpose and, frankly, it stinks to treat customers like this.

I will throw my hat in the ring here as well. I bought ED and lifetime pass back when the game was just in Beta. I too saw the wording about getting a free Cobra with Horizons.
I would only sell it as I don't want it. But....it was offered and advertised that way for preorders.
The link from the internet archive that one user posted and screenshot clearly states you get a free Cobra Mk IV. It is at the top, in RED highlight, and very obvious. Yes, at the bottom of the blah blah text, it contradicts itself by stating it will unlock the ship in game.
This is called Deceptive Advertising in the US. It is actionable from a lawsuit perspective.
Even the Executive Producer replied to a post that the user would get a free Cobra Mk IV, then in this thread, stated you would get the chance to purchase it in game.
FD should make this right with all Horizon players and provide the ship.
For the many who say, get over it, bad ship, or whatever, that is your OPINION. What is NOT opinion is what FD stated on their site for the presale.

I'm still not inclined to see deliberate naughtiness from FD, here. And I am not exactly one of their biggest fans. They used to be very bad at weasel words, but have been getting much better. However, they have done this sort of thing before: witness my regular comments on the missing 'near God-like powers for the DDF. That cost me £300 with an absolutely black and white promise (DBOBE has subsequently apologised for not delivering (so they know they have to) but they have still done nothing about it). However, I don't think this was a deliberate ploy to defraud people (as, to be fair, I don't think the near God-likes was a deliberate ploy). I see this as just, well, institutional incompetence, which they also seem to be quite good at. I have little doubt that it was always intended to be 'available but you have to buy it', but someone got it wrong when they wrote the bumpf on the shop, and that was changed when someone noticed the problem a little later. Now THAT was the mistake: you cannot just cover up something like that and expect to get away with it unnoticed. When they noticed the mistake, they should have come clean: probably to clearly notify us of the mistake, and offer refunds to anyone who bought on the strength of it. Embarrassment all round, but line drawn under it and everyone moves on. However, just like offllinegate, this will become a problem not because of what they did (really, a small free ship is of no real consequence to anyone with much time in the game), but how they did it.

Bottom line: the only sensible way out of this now is an apology, and we all get the ship free. Even if the beta players dismissed it as worthless.

One of the other threads has pointed to this link (https://web.archive.org/web/20150816000349/https://www.frontierstore.net/games/elite-dangerous-cat/horizons/elite-dangerous-horizons-pre-order.html" which is from the way back machine.

it states "For a limited time all existing Elite: Dangerous players will receive a £10 loyalty discount plus the exclusive Cobra Mark IV ship when ordering the Elite Dangerous: Horizons through the Frontier Store. Discount will be automatically applied at checkout. The Cobra Mark IV will be added to your account when Elite Dangerous: Horizons Lands."

My point isn't the significant value, when you spend your hard earn money where do you draw the line at being taken? 1$, 5$, 20$? your line is different from mine doesn't make mine invalid, but that items were advertised which led to my decision to drop a significant amount of money, not to mention the principle, fortunately I have a voice and a popular space sim podcast, I will continue on with the game and with little trust in the Developers .

I was never under the impression that I would get a free Conra Mk 4. It was always clear to me that it would be AVAILABLE to me to purchase in game as I had pre-ordered Horizons. I think they have been upfront about this.

In the Elite Dangerous newsletter #86 that i found in my mail storage it says "For now, Elite Dangerous: Horizons is available for pre-order, and existing players get a £10 discount and access to the exclusive Cobra Mk IV in-game."
Looking back i must say "Access" doesnt exactly say "for free" but at this time i understood i will get this ship for free. And this was one reason for me to preorder Horizons instead ob buying it sometimes after release.
At archive.org the website says exactly "...
The Cobra Mark IV will be added to your account when Elite Dangerous: Horizons Lands."

But fighting for a useless ship...

Jesus Christ.

They screwed up by being ambiguous rather than straight. Shame on them.

But you guys are taking it a little too personally.

They were not ambiguous in the slightest. They said
FD Shop said:

They then changed that to reduce the value of the item after some people had bought but before they delivered. That is probably illegal. (IANAL)

By all means don't give a damn about such practices: you are entitled to allow any company to treat you in that way if you wish. But don't be surprised when some react. I am a shareholder in Frontier, and I hate that they behave this way, even if it was accidental with no malice aforethought.
