They gave up on small ships a loooong time ago. With engineering they painted themselves into a corner. They can't find a way out, where small ships would be good enough to be worth a pick and invest real money again. Thus, don't ever expect a new small ship, untill somebody there finds the necessary balls to finally give engineering the much needed nerf.
The other thing about the new cobra: three seats. No way to make good use of three seats without a fighter bay. Thus i would expect this ship to be one more medium ship with fighter capability. And thus might be a real rival for the Krait MK II.
why? attach a seat to any of existing skimmers - and you are ok to go =)
Part of me wishes they make some radical “not safe” choices and give us a highly asymmetrical ship like the millennium falcon or the b-wing.
The b-wing’s body rotates down so that you’re sitting centered on the x axis but high on the y axis. But when you come in to land, you’re way off to the side. Whoever came up with that was really thinking outside of the box.
Decades ago I played a video game where you could fly a b-wing and it was fun.

From memory that actually doesn't finish off a Thargoid, so not any ship. 
I wonder what the response to a cockpit on the side of the ship would be.
Probably the same as an off-centre pilots chair, or worse.

Energy bomb? IIRC that was pretty much the only thing that would kill Thargoids in the original game, I always carried one as a “I’ve been hyperdicted” panic button!!From memory that actually doesn't finish off a Thargoid, so not any ship.
