Cobra Mk V and more...

I will set up mine for exploration regardless. That cockpit is too good not to. And the Mandalay will be bubble and mission runner.

;)

And what will be the superiority of this ship ?
  • P2 - large number of cannons.
  • T8 - large amount of cargo for an average ship.
  • Mandalay - The biggest jump for a medium ship.

What about this one?

The one ship that finally puts an end to the infinite number of "Cobra MK4 for everybody!" forum threads 😁

Seriously though, it has an exceptional set of optional equipment slots for a small ship. And twice the number of utility slots of the MK3, matching the DBX. It's definitely going to punch above it's weight class.

As a Mk Iv aficionado I plan on putting the Mk V through its paces, to see how it compares. Space and Planetary Pirating, CZ Outpost CAS, Raiding, Mining, and Smuggling. If the Goids(tm) are still messing about around a planetary port, I will test its AX blockade and dropship capabilities.

I aim to misbehave.

I can pulse it after take off and still be in the gravity of a small moon.

I’m not going to argue with you, if you don’t want to learn the new skill that’s up to you. And maybe the Cobra MkV wont be the ship for you. That’s fine, it seems a good fit for many anyway.
I'm not arguing with YOU, just trying to figure out what I can do on this ship better than the other one I already have.
As for the SCO, I'm just telling it like it is, I try to use it all the time, but I fail every time. My goals are usually in the 1000-1500 range.

I don’t see a role at the moment (changed from PS a couple of months ago and did not start ground combat yet), but some kind of Multirole-Planetary-Operations-Vessel could be a niche for her.

Experimental EDSY-Mock-Up (+1 additional OD Shieldbooster and a point defense or so into the utilities):

(Only for showing the modules; jump range, speed, hull and shield values etc. will not correspond)

And what will be the superiority of this ship ?

What we know so far,

short summary of what Paul said in yesterday Frontier Unlocked #11, from minute 00:57:30 to 00:59:30

"Cobra Mk V will be jack of all trade ship"
"10th anniversary[...]is perfect occasion to look back at the Cobra and modernise it"
"unique cockpit[...]massive view[...]fit three people for a small ship"
"Best small multirole ship in the game[...]not beat old dedicated ships[...]mean for new player"
"SCO capability"

Speed w/ 2 pips, unknown thruster class/rate or engineering applied.

several distinctive features without being game-breaking, I still think it's the right way, as it has been for other new ships.

I see several interesting use cases, I just wish the Mandalay had the Cobra mkV cockpit

This is exactly the argument that was brought forth in the countless "we need more ships" discussions in the past: What new role would they play, what "hole" would they fill. The answer was always: None, but those discussions were mostly before SCO drives were introduced.

Now the answer for the four new ships is: They are SCO optimized, that's their unique selling point. They may or may not fulfill any existing role better or worse than other ships, but SCO is the only new thing they bring to the table. Other than that: They are a choice. Fly 'em if you like 'em, or don't.

I am puzzled as to where this will leave the Mk IV. So far it appears that the Mk V is equal or better than the Mk IV in every aspect. At least the Mk III is faster.

Amen to this.

Not entirely true. The T8 is the best medium cargo ship now, the Python MK II is a viable alternative to the FdL. And the Mandalay is an alternative to the Anaconda whale in jump range. The MK V has the best small pad cargo capacity.

And? There is nothing new in there apart from their SCO optimization. Those ships don't suddenly invent and fill new roles. Being SCO optimized is what's really unique to them. That and the fact that the Mandalay is totally OP, of course ;).

Ok, let's try this a little differently. New roles ? No. But Type 8 now putd a dedicated cargo ship at the top spot for medium pad cargo, as multiroles just should not be the best at anything by FDEV's own definition. The Python MK I was. Python MK II was an attempt to break up a meta named FdL, it didn't quite succeed at that.
