I prefer a new Gutamaya ship focused in combat, not in the line of the multipurpose Clipper and Cutter, all of their specialised combat ships are small. Also it fits in the lore as a "counter" to the Corvette.
Agreed.
In PVE, an engineered courier can just about stay out of firing arc of Corvettes, Anacondas and FDLs, and can hold the tail of Pythons. It still takes ages to wear down the shields & hull, even with complimentary engineering such as Cytoscramblers paired with Corrosive Multicannon. But when your enemy brings any turrets then you can expect your shields to drop before you can take them out.
I'd love to have something that could be the same counter in PVP, with many small hardpoints giving access to a variety of weaponry and game play. A small mine launcher with Reverb cascade to do bombing runs against 10MJ cutters, a small missile with Grom bombs to stop them from escaping, Scramble Spectrum laser to trigger a power plant malfunction, and still enough conventional weaponry to do more than tickle them.
Counter-intuitively when you engineer small fast ships the problem is often the number of internals not the size of them. If you slap in a Heavy, Deep Class 3 Hull Reinforcement you lose all your speed, but 3x Class 1s are lighter and better. So what about 10 slots, all class 1 or 2? That would also help some non-combat builds I've tried in the past where you can't add a Class 3 multi limpet lead weight, and don't have the slots for multiple hack, recon, collect etc limpets. The same argument can be made for only having 4 utility slots.
At this point you end up with something that has the capabilities of the bigger ships but is still constrained by size and weight, and I would still expect that the best builds would still have the compromises between speed or running some slots empty.
