Cobra Mk V and more...

Okay.. but why Cobra Mark IV so slow then? Over the Mk III.
If you put everything out and make ship light as possible it is still will be slower

Cobra Mark IV should get buff

For the same reason why the Adder is slower even though it’s lighter.

Cobra MK4 is not going to be touched. The whole point of the MK5 is to make it clear that there is no reason to use a ship that not everyone can get anymore. FDEV regret they ever offered that. They will never do anything to promote it further. You don’t need a buff on the MK4, use an MK5. It’s everything the MK4 is but better in every way (minus the exclusivity).

My two biggest lingering questions with the CM5 were speed (top and boost) and jump range. This early preview answered both questions. I was hoping it could boost to 600+ and jump over 40+ when equipped for cargo/combat.

The CM3 has been my daily driver for a long time. This will definitely replace it as my new everyday ship. Absolutely fantastic!

All the old ships will soon be obsolete. All of them. Unless FDEV offer modifications to make them more relevant. Optional SCO harnesses, module splitters, New engineering options...there are ways to maintain or restore balance. We won't see them happen, though, because they are too much work.

That would need a lot more new ships. I can see the Cobra V making all other small ships obsolete, except maybe the Vulture, but the new mediums are much more balanced, and there have been no new large ships at all yet.

Module splitting would be amazing. I’d love to see all of the new (broken) builds the community could come up with but it would really add versatility to a lot of the ships.

It would only take a few new metas after the Cobra Mk V: a heavy merchant, a heavy destroyer, a light fighter, a heavy miner (all three heavies can be the same ship, like the Cutter), and an AX brute if the thargoids stay a thing. Make a Viper Mk V, Krait Mk III, and Imperial Galleon, and the old ships are all but done.

I've always wanted it.

I'm under a self imposed rule of only one of each ship, because flying always the same ship just in different roles would be boring.
I've tried to make myself own and fly at least one of every ship, obsolete or otherwise, but there's a few I never managed to find a purpose for, so I don't have them all. If I find a ship especially capable, though, I kit it out a couple different ways. I don't want to always fly the same heavy ship for combat, I want to try them all, but not give up my trade Cutter, etc. And I got tired of reconfiguring ships.

Similar mass but 100 more speed on the same thrusters is just cheating now. Ship stats now essentially not meaning anything anymore.
There is the assumption that the older frame ships are able to fully utilise the engine thrusters that are fitted. Limited by design to (say) 95% of the thermal capacity of the engine would cap your thrust.

Speed is capped by... other things. Things that are definitely not related to space physics.

To be fair, the current lore doesn't explain in detail what changes to the frame were necessary to make it handle SCO. It's possible it needed to be both stronger and lighter, requiring a more expensive alloy, but reducing overall mass. You can build a chassis for a car out of chromoly tubing that will handle forces a conventional mild steel frame won't handle, yet weigh less, at greater cost. It's plausible for the MKV to weigh less than the MKIV.

The Cobra 3 is still the only ship I could fly all the time, it's limitations being optionals and firepower/hard point convergence. But the flight model, cockpit and proportions are spot on especially in Odyssey.

The Cobra 5 could indeed replace it, but I'm not paying money for it. I tried the Python 2 and Type 8, both ships somehow left me cold, not sure why. Would've had buyers remorse if I had spent money on either, there's something off about them. Genuinely can't put my finger on it.

Even now that they're available for free I'm just not enthusiastic at all about them, and I've been wanting new ships for ages.

They're too good. I love them, but they are. They handle more smoothly. They have fewer heat issues. They do more of your flying for you. To be fair the same difference exists IRL between a new car and a design from an earlier decade, especially if a substantial breakthrough in technology has been made in the intervening years. Driving a '68 Ford pickup is a more real driving experience than driving a '24 Subaru Outback. If you love the former, the latter will leave you feeling empty.

Hahahahahahahaa - Sorry but the Anaconda has been a ship made from magic from day one in this game. I'm failing to see how ship stats have ever had any consistency in this game. Its a game. Its supposed to be fun. Small ships are fun to fly and are never going to "break" the game balance.

I love this wee beastie. I liked the original cobra but hated its cockpit. That alone makes this ship a total win in my mind.

The rest of its stats? Its never gonna replace "endgame" ships so really what does it matter?

I never bought a Python 2 but for the T-8 that thing is slow as hell ... less than 300 m/s with dirty drag drives and 4 pips to ENG. It's nearly as slow as my T-10.

I dunno if that's what puts you off about it, but that really makes it hard for me to love it despite really liking the way it looks.

Less than 300m/s? My Type 8 is built for cargo and has a top speed (4 pips to ENG) of 307m/s and a boost of 521m/s.

Heh - I hate the way that ship looks. It flys nice but I just want to amputate those two arms with a chainsaw. :ROFLMAO: Its very versatile with its internals though. And honestly if you want fast Lakon is the wrong place to look. Well the T-series anyway.
Don't get me wrong... I'm a fan. But the T-8 is a terrible direction to take the series. That beautiful cockpit.... with a pair of big ugly blinders slapped on either side of it. Who thought that was a good idea?

Only if the exclusivity is removed first (To be clear this is not me calling for this). If not, it's absolutely fine as it is.

It does feel like 10 years is enough exclusivity for any particular item, ngl.

Although if everyone ends up saying the V is better than the IV, that is as good, imo 😸
